AL ASAD, Iraq (July 3, 2006) -- Marines, sailors and civilians gathered under the shade of an old hanger here to celebrate the 35 years of hard work, dedication and service by the Marines of Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 269, July 1. The squadron, HMLA-269, Marine Aircraft Group 16 (Reinforced), 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, was activated July 1, 1971, at Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C., and was the first designated light attack helicopter squadron.
