Police say three employees of a Cleveland Taco Bell opened fire on two armed robbers, killing one. Police have said two masked robbers entered the restaurant early Wednesday and ordered three employees to lie on the floor. Police say three other employees pulled out handguns and opened fire, shooting one of the suspects six times. The other suspect ran off. The Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH’-guh) County Medical Examiner’s Office on Thursday said the man killed was 24-year-old De’Carlo Jackson. Investigators say Jackson was found with a loaded gun in his hand. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. No one...

Drudge highlights part of the story that the LA Times, of course, does not. The president was updated throughout the evening, and notified late Tuesday that Stevens was unaccounted for. Obama learned Wednesday that Stevens was confirmed dead Wednesday morning, the official said. Man needs his rest. He's in Vegas right now. You can't do Vegas right if you're short of sleep. By the way, the media is all dutifully reporting the Obama line: That while he is jetting his ass off to Las Vegas, "it's not a day of politics as usual" (via Mark Knoller) and that his Political...

Stocks are falling in early trading after a skirmish between North and South Korea and amid ongoing worries about Europe's debt troubles. Investors were already uneasy Tuesday about Europe's debt crisis after Ireland accepted a bailout this weekend. The concern is that Portugal and Spain may be the next countries to need help.

As the primary sponsor of Senate Bill 1363, I was disappointed in the Arizona Republic's coverage of the legislation allowing law-abiding citizens to carry their self-defense firearms into restaurants and other establishments that serve alcohol. The article seemed as if it was intended to scare the public. It referred to citizens being able to carry "rifles and shotguns" into bars and nightclubs. While this is technically true because Arizona statute refers to "firearms," instead of "handguns," it is not a legitimate issue. The same law currently pertains to McDonalds, Burger King, retail stores, hospitals, day care centers and every other...

MORE UNAMERICANISM (AND EVEN A TOUCH OF INSANITY) FROM THE BATFE As alert gun owners probably suspected, the incompetence displayed in JPFO's recently obtained footage of the BATFE's attempt to railroad competition shooter John Glover (http://www.jpfo.org/alert20050103.htm)was barely the tip of the iceberg. Since announcing the footage earlier this month, we've begun hearing from attorneys, gun owners, and firearms makers from around the world. Two new and mindbending examples of BATFE tactics have just been posted on our Web site: 1. Ulrich Weigand, president of Inter Ordnance of America, came to the U.S. seeking greater freedom. Instead, he ended up having...

State senator's 2AM aims for arms-owners at polls; Politics are 'not their thing'; Sponsor of failed ban sees little need for more voices Maryland gun owners must unite as a potent political force to fend off left-wing attacks on their constitutional rights, a conservative state lawmaker says. That's why Sen. Alex X. Mooney of Frederick has helped form the Second Amendment Coalition, a pro-gun organization nicknamed the 2AM coalition, that aims to register gun owners to vote. Yesterday, the group launched a weekend voter registration drive at the Silverado Gun Show at the Frederick Fair Grounds. Many gun owners distance...

John Kerry on Gun Control Democratic Party shouldn't be for the NRA Q: Do you find it necessary to kill animals for photo-ops? A: I don't think the Democratic Party should be the candidacy of the NRA. And when I was fighting to ban assault weapons in 1992 and 1993, Dean was appealing to the NRA for their endorsement, and he got it. I believe it's important for us to have somebody who is going to stand up for gun safety in America and make certain that we make our streets safe, our children safe, and not allow people to...

CHAGRINED CALIFORNIA DOJ GUN POLICERETURN IMPROPERLY CONFISCATED RIFLESDOJ Firearms Division's Own AgentsConfused About What Constitutes An "Assault Weapon"On November 25, 2003 the California DOJ announced the seizure of a number of illegal "assault weapons" from a Laguna Niguel gun dealer. One of the guns on display in the store was a Robinson Armament model M96 rifle. Believing this rifle to be an illegal "assault weapon," DOJ Firearms Division agents used the store's transaction records to locate each purchaser of the M96 rifle, then went door to door, often in the dead of night, confiscating the firearms under threat of criminal...

It is as sure as the tides: In any gun discussion, sooner or later, someone will feel obliged to suggest that desiring to be free to choose to be armed implies paranoia. I can - and do - easily counter this silly digression into armchair psychoanalysis (merely asking any who suggest this "You wear a seatbelt when you are in a vehicle... does this make you paranoid?") but I am left to wonder... is there a term for the polar opposite of "paranoia"? Paranoia is defined as "a mental disorder typified by an irrational belief that one is being persecuted,...
