Explanation: Sometimes even the sky surprises you. To see more stars and faint nebulosity in the Pleiades star cluster (M45), long exposures are made. Many times, less interesting items appear on the exposures that were not intended -- but later edited out. These include stuck pixels, cosmic ray hits, frames with bright clouds or Earth's Moon, airplane trails, lens flares, faint satellite trails, and even insect trails. Sometimes, though, something really interesting is caught by chance. That was just the case a few weeks ago in al-Ula, Saudi Arabia when a bright meteor streaked across during an hour-long exposure of...

Uprisings in major Iranian cities, protests, lots of footage via phone cameras, some not even covering faces, supporters of regime not helping much, because they don't have food and haven't been paid. Hizbollah is FUBAR, so can't come in and do the Thug (new dance; must become GIF like Happy Dance), people daring to wave original Iranian flag, sing original anthem, both of which are capital offenses, previously bringing summary execution. Parallels with UK are remarkable. Transcript linked below video.

Cracker Barrel has issued a new statement in response to the outrage over the sterile new branding, as its stock continues to free fall. The statement, titled, “A Promise to Our Guests,” was posted to Facebook on Monday morning. The restaurant chain, long beloved for its traditional American charm, faced a storm of criticism after unveiling a modernized logo that ditched iconic elements like the barrel and the “Old Country Store” tagline. Fans, including former President Donald Trump, slammed the change as a “woke” erasure of heritage, leading to a $94 million drop in stock value in just one day....

🚨🚨🚨#BREAKING and EXCLUSIVE: The Secret Service’s chief counsel Richard Giuditta, who also served as a senior adviser to Director Sean Curran, resigned abruptly late last week after @RCPolitics inquired about an alleged “road rage” incident he was involved in with a USSS-issued government vehicle in New Jersey in late July, according to multiple sources familiar with the incident and his departure. Giuditta, who sources say had no formal training on the use of a government vehicle, inappropriately used lights and sirens on the vehicle, which are supposed to be reserved for law enforcement purposes, the sources allege. The incident involved...

The shine may be coming off AI, a tech charlatan that has brought no major benefits for organizations including telcos and has had some worrying effects. Offloading cognitive effort to ChatGPT or a similar application is extremely bad for the brain. Who knew? It should have been obvious to anyone who's realized that lounging around all day is bad for the body, or that no one became good at anything by not doing it. But it took two separate research projects, one by Microsoft and Carnegie Mellon University and the other by MIT, to establish that overreliance on generative artificial...

The first human case of the flesh-eating parasite new world screwworm has been detected in the United States, the Department of Health and Human Services said early Monday. The case, related to a person who had recently traveled to El Salvador, was confirmed to be screwworm by the CDC on Aug. 4, HHS spokesman Andrew G. Nixon confirmed to Reuters, who first reported the story. "The risk to public health in the United States from this introduction is very low," he said. Reuters reported last week, citing U.S. beef industry sources, that a person in Maryland contracted the parasite after...

President Donald Trump proposed on Aug. 25 that his administration rename the Department of Defense to its previous name, the Department of War. “Pete, you started off by saying ’the Department of Defense.' And somehow it didn’t sound good to me,” Trump said in the Oval Office, speaking to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, after signing executive orders on fighting crime, including in Washington. “Defense. What are we, defense? Why are we defense? It used to be called the Department of War, and it had a stronger sound. And, as you know, we won World War I, we won World War...

European leaders presented a united front at their White House summit last week with President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, agreeing on the need for security guarantees for Ukraine to eventually end its war with Russia. But within days, the "coalition of the willing" began to fray over the issue of sending troops into the war region. The discord came into full view Friday when Matteo Salvini, a chief lieutenant in the government of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, mocked French President Emmanuel Macron for suggesting European soldiers could be deployed on the ground in Ukraine as part...

NOTTHEBEE.COM https://notthebee.com/article/people-ask-if-cracker-barrels-brand-redesign-is-war-crime Not the Bee's super scientific poll, with almost 8,000 submissions, determined that the redesign overseen by the company's white liberal female CEO (with glasses of course) is a turn-off to most customers. The story went so viral that even Denny's and Steak 'n Shake took the opportunity to lash out: when you copy the homework but...

In a future conflict with China, technological superiority alone will not be enough; “mass matters.” The vast distances of the Indo-Pacific and the limitations of sea-launched airpower create a critical need for a large, land-based fleet of long-range, 6th-generation F-47 fighters. A substantial number of F-47s would be essential to overwhelm enemy defenses, deliver the necessary volume of ordnance, and create a resilient, networked force capable of shortening the sensor-to-shooter timeline. Without a large F-47 fleet, the U.S. risks being unable to effectively project power and prevail in a great-power conflict.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin cannot not sign a peace deal with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky because Moscow views him as “illegitimate,” Moscow’s top diplomat said Sunday. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made the declaration in an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” suggesting that Putin will not be able to make an agreement with him. Lavrov also threw up yet another roadblock to direct talks between Putin and Zelensky, saying that Russia has an “agenda” in mind that must to be agreed before the two sides can sit down together. “There is no meeting planned,” Lavrov told NBC’s “Meet the...

Ukrainians are hunting down Russian drones armed with nothing more than shotguns and rifles while dangling out of prop lanes as part of a low-tech solution to Moscow’s high-tech aerial assassins. Although Kyiv has some of the West’s most advanced air-defense systems, including US-made Patriot missiles and F-16 jets, the nation has been forced to deploy such unconventional tactics to counter Russia’s ever-escalating drone bombardments because of the sheer number of devices being deployed. Pilots and gunners in Ukraine’s 11th Army Aviation Brigade have been tapped to take the Soviet-era Yak-52 prop planes to the skies, with the two-person aircraft...
