On second thought, hold that Champagne. After months of campaigning, a last-minute swap at the top of the presidential ticket and one of the closest-fought election races in recent American history, election day has finally arrived in the United States. But don’t expect Europe to join in the election night fun. In stark contrast to pre-pandemic ballots, U.S. election night 2024 promises to be a sober affair in Europe, with U.S. officials in most European power centers having ditched the usual festivities. Embassies from Brussels to London, Paris and Berlin have decided against holding their usual watch parties. The reason?...

[Catholic Caucus] Bishop Eleganti: Synod-backed decentralization of Church teaching would end its ‘catholicity’The word 'catholic' means universal — thus, the 'regionalization of teaching and discipline' would indeed undermine the universality of the Church.Swiss Bishop Marian Eleganti warned that the Vatican’s Synod on Synodality’s hoped-for decentralization of Catholic “teaching and discipline” would “be the end of the catholicity of the Church.”In a recent piece published on Eleganti’s website, he highlighted the fact that, as Pope Francis and the Synod’s leading clerics have signaled many times, one of the desired outcomes of the Synod is a “cultural regionalization of teaching and discipline”...

An official close to the Prime Minister tells The Time of Israel that Defense Minister Yoav Gallant was fired for professional reasons, and not because of coalition politics. The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, says that Gallant “functioned as a rubber stamp for the IDF and did not challenge it even once.” The defense minister, claims the official, advocated a diplomatic solution in Lebanon six months ago that would not have diminished Hezbollah’s capabilities, and opposed the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah until the IDF backed the move. On Gaza, claims the official, Gallant resisted the IDF going...

Republican VP nominee JD Vance last week caused a stir when he mentioned on Joe Rogan that the testosterone levels in men can give a good indication of how they lean politically. One male voter for Kamala Harris went on TV this morning to prove Vance was 100% correct. Local university employee Jason Faasse from Grand Rapids, Michigan, was interviewed by CNN shortly after he cast his ballot and happily told the reporter he voted for Harris. When the reporter asked why he did so, Faasse started to say it was because he had three daughters and supported women’s rights...

Wisconsin Democratic Party Chairman Ben Wikler predicted that if it appears that former President Donald Trump is winning his state, it will be a temporary “red mirage.” Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are battling for the state’s 10 electoral votes on Tuesday. Wikler appeared on MSNBC to make the argument that once the results start pouring in and Trump looks to be in the lead, it is not to be believed. “So, in Milwaukee, you’ll see 100% of precincts reporting before you see the numbers that come out of those early votes in person, and those absentee ballots, which,...

If it weren’t for the election season swamping news coverage, odds are more people would be talking about the revelation that, to quote a Bloomberg headline, “The World Bank Somehow Lost Track of at Least $24 Billion.” In fact, that may understate the reality: the World Bank’s “accounting gap” could be as big as $41 billion. The missing funds in question were for “climate finance” projects, “financed by taxpayer dollars from its member countries, the biggest being the US.” According to the Oxfam report that was the source for the Bloomberg story, “There is no clear public record showing where...

The Republican National Committee (RNC) is touting some of its key election integrity victories as voters rush to the polls, hoping that these key wins will instill confidence in voters who have concerns over the fairness of the election. The final Economist/YouGov survey ahead of Election Day showed that nearly one quarter of likely voters have low confidence that the election will be conducted fairly. Of those, ten percent said they have no confidence at all, and 13 percent said they only have a “little” confidence. With this reality in mind, the RNC launched an extensive election integrity program earlier...
