Clerical celibacy is an issue that the ongoing final sessions of the Synod on Synodality should have discussed. However, the hierarchy continues to peripheralize it, despite its deleterious impacts on witnessing Christ and evangelizing. Historically, the androcentric Roman Catholic Church has been mired in an endless crisis over clerical celibacy and chastity with pernicious implications, especially for its lay and religious women and children. Apart from explicit violence against them by the celibate clerics, the hierarchy’s double standards of male sexual morality have placed the burden of blame, shame, guilt and sin on women survivors — the proverbial Eves, and...

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles on Wednesday said it has agreed to pay $880 million to settle claims of clergy sexual abuse dating back several decades, which the victims' attorneys say is the largest such settlement with a Catholic archdiocese. The settlement covers 1,353 child sexual abuse claims dating back to the 1940s and filed after California’s Assembly Bill 218 was enacted in 2019, which allowed civil claims of older sexual abuse cases involving minors to be reopened. In a letter to the city’s Catholic residents, LA Archbishop José H. Gomez wrote: “I am sorry for every one of these...

Acquitted but still imprisoned—that is the fate of Émilienne Sibomana, a Burundian woman who has been behind bars for nearly two years for false accusations after she accused a priest, who was also a school principal, of sexually abusing minors in the Archdiocese of Gitega, located in Burundi's second-largest city with the same name. The case began in January 2023. According to the appeal decision, which La Croix International obtained, Émilienne Sibomana, a secretary at a high school, accused the school’s principal during a public meeting of sexually assaulting some female students in his office. The day after the meeting,...

Welcome to this weeks video which takes a look at how Doggerland and how the shrinking ice during the Mesolithic may have influence the Ridgeway and its formation. We also take a look at the Great Chalk Way. A new route lauched in October 2024, combining some pre existing national trails and pathways. The route is 400 miles long and takes you from The Wash all the way to Lyme Regis. To be very clear, the views represented in this video by me, are indeed my own little theory and do not nessecarily those represented by others in the video. A new study by researchers has found that folate may weaken the link between blood-lead levels in pregnant women and autistic-like behaviors in their children. Says Alampi, "Our study suggests that adequate folic acid supplementation mitigates the neurotoxic effects of lead." The SFU-led study is the first to observe that adequate folic acid supplementation may reduce the risk between gestational lead exposure and autism. It found that associations between blood lead levels and autistic-like behaviors in toddlers were stronger among pregnant women with less than 0.4 milligrams per day of folic acid supplementation. Folate and folic acid, a synthetic version...

A US startup company is offering to help wealthy couples screen their embryos for IQ using controversial technology that raises questions about the ethics of genetic enhancement. The company, Heliospect Genomics, has worked with more than a dozen couples undergoing IVF, according to undercover video footage. The recordings show the company marketing its services at up to $50,000 (£38,000) for clients seeking to test 100 embryos, and claiming to have helped some parents select future children based on genetic predictions of intelligence. Managers boasted their methods could produce a gain of more than six IQ points. Experts say the development...

A former adviser to George W Bush and John McCain believes Vice President Kamala Harris will nab the presidential election “maybe easily.” Writing in a Vanity Fair op-ed released on Friday, Mark McKinnon, a former chief media adviser to George W Bush and John McCain, said: “I’m going to make a bold prediction here because I just don’t give a s*** if I’m wrong, even if this lives on the internet forever. “Kamala Harris is going to win.” He attributed his theory to the level of enthusiasm among Harris’s supporters. Harris’s campaign got an eight-point lead in August when it...

There is an imbalance in the gut flora of patients with epilepsy compared with healthy controls, according to a study. BingCong Hong analyzed differences in gut flora between patients with epilepsy with and without cognitive impairment (62 and 38 patients, respectively) and normal controls (100 controls). The researcher found more significant differences in the structure and composition of the gut flora between patients in the epilepsy group and the control group but no significant differences in a diversity analysis (P > 0.05). Actinobacteriota, Faecalibacterium, and Collinsella were significantly lower in the group with cognitive impairment than the group without (P...

High blood pressure (hypertension) causes thickening of the blood vessels and hardening of the arteries (arteriosclerosis). A study has shown that a similar phenomenon occurs in the lungs. High blood pressure hardens the bronchi and increases airway resistance, impairing respiratory capacity. "Our analysis showed that subjects who practiced regular physical activities appeared to be partially protected against hardening of the bronchi," Rodolfo de Paula Vieira. Prior research showed that lung function is closely linked to the ability of the lungs to expand and revert to their previous state (elastance and resistance), and that this was most altered in older patients...

Standing has gained popularity among people looking to offset the harms of a sedentary lifestyle often caused by spending long days sitting in front of the computer, television or driving wheel. Standing desks have become a popular option among office workers. However, their efforts may not produce the intended result. New research has shown that over the long-term, standing more compared with sitting does not improve cardiovascular health and could increase the risk of circulatory issues related to standing, such as varicose veins and deep vein thrombosis. The study also found that sitting for over 10 hours a day increased...

When someone shouted “Jesus is Lord” at a Kamala Harris rally, she responded by saying “you are at the wrong rally” It makes sense when you remember that this is the same Kamala who, as a senator, aggressively pushed a bill that would gut the Religious Freedom Restoration Act

The religious community traditionally abstains from taking part in elections, but Republicans believe their votes could be crucial in the US presidential electionTraditionally the Amish do not vote. In the past they wanted little to do with government, believing instead that they serve the higher kingdom of God. Now, among this deeply religious community known for rejecting modern technology, the attitude to politics is changing and the “Amish vote” has been relentlessly targeted in one of America’s swing states. “Trump has some good ideas, especially on the economy,” Henry Stoltz, an Amish vegetable farmer, said. “But you see, I don’t...

Kamala Harris wants to deprive Americans of the right to choose cars and household appliances. When she claims, as she did at a rally last week in Michigan, that “I will never tell you what kind of car you have to drive” she is guilty of two of the Democrats’ most reviled offenses, malinformation (failure to contextualize a statement) and misinformation (lying).Combating climate by changing infrastructure, consumer goods, and lifestyle is one of Harris’s core values. As recently as this year, the Biden-Harris administration continued to issue regulations and battle in court for the right to reduce consumer options for...

Dear fellow women, You are being played...And falling for this particular confidence scheme won’t just cost you, it’ll cost all of us. I’m an affluent 30-something divorced, white, childless, American woman with multiple postgraduate degrees, and a busy career. I’ve lived abroad in several metropolitan cities and I own my home. According to every single statistic, I should be a J.D. Vance-loathing single cat lady. I should also really hate Donald Trump. But I don’t. Lest we forget, the presidency is not a popularity contest. There seems to be some confusion on that front. You aren’t casting a ballot for...

James O'Keefe has a documentary coming out this month, and the clips we see are harrowing. Line in the Sand focuses on the ins and outs of the migrant crisis and, in particular, (as far as I can tell) the corruption that lies at the heart of the matter. Being politically obsessed, we tend to focus on the political motivations that have driven the Democrats to import millions of migrants into the United States. We think of redistricting, illegal votes, the rush to make migrants citizens, and, of course, the damage being done to American communities done by importing criminal...
