Who knew that prosecutors caught committing perjury could be disqualified from a court case they lied about? Apparently, just about everyone except for Jeffrey Toobin formerly a CNN legal analyst who for some reason appeared on Anderson Cooper 360 on Thursday to give his hands-on analysis of the Fulton County, Georgia hearing to determine if District Attorney Fani Willis and prosecutor Nathan Wade committed perjury when they swore their romantic relationship only began after Wade entered the case. As you can see, Toobin was outraged at the very idea that they could be disqualified from the RICO case which included...

Michael Cohen, a former personal attorney for Donald Trump, said Friday on MSNBC’s “Deadline” that the former president can not afford the New York City civil fraud trial judgment against him. Cohen said, “Where does he come up with $355 million? That’s exclusive of the $86 million or $88.6 million that he owes to E. Jean Carroll in that civil case. This is a staggering amount of money for virtually anybody, maybe there’s a handful of people in the entire country who can afford to write a check for half a billion dollars, Donald is not one of them. Right...

The Book of Proverbs, Chapter 26, contains this invaluable insight: “As dogs return to their vomit, so fools repeat their folly. You see those who are wise in their own eyes? There is more hope for fools than for them.” Invaluable because, in connection with the Russia-Ukraine War, the passage powerfully illuminates the current debate about Ukraine’s future strategic prospects. The past few months have witnessed the dog returning to its vomit in the form of any number of efforts to once again make the case that Ukraine still has a path to total victory in its war against Russia. In...

Biden, in a Friday speech, condemned what he described as corporate greed in light of 2023’s crash, and also pushed for railroads to implement more safeguards. “While there are acts of God, this was an act of greed that was 100 percent preventable,” Biden said. “We were pushing railroads to take more precautions, to deal with braking, to do a whole range of things that were not dealt with. Norfolk Southern failed its responsibility,” he added.

On this date in 1894, a young Indian named Joe Dick was executed outside the courthouse of Eufaula in present-day Oklahoma. At the time, Eufala was part of the Muscogee Creek jursidiction of Indian Territory. Until the 1898 Curtis Act, the tribal governments in Indian Country enjoyed full legal jurisdiction, up to and including application of the death penalty. One interesting feature of that jurisdiction (previously noted in these annals) was the absence of standing jails to incarcerate death-sentenced prisoners. Joe Dick was only loosely guarded and on “Christmas week, he told the officers that were guarding him that he...

In the face of declining enrollment and projected budget shortfalls, the Fort Worth Independent School District plans to cut staff. Superintendent Angelica Ramsey posted the announcement online Monday. "This year, due to continued projections of declining enrollment, coupled with legislative inaction on public school financing, the sunsetting of ESSER funds, fewer federal dollars, and a projected budget deficit, it has become necessary for us to make additional reductions both in budgets and staff," Ramsey wrote. School board members spent three hours in executive session during a special meeting on Tuesday night, discussing which positions and how many will be affected....

New York Attorney General Letitia James welcomed Judge Arthur Engoron’s staggering $354 million fine against Donald Trump on Friday by declaring at a news conference: “Everyone must play by the same rules.” But a review of 70 years of legal history by the Associated Press showed no precedent whatsoever for suing an entrepreneur or business for allegedly inflating real estate values when there was no victim that suffered any damage.

MSNBC host Al Sharpton said Friday on MSNBC’s “Deadline” that the New York City civil fraud trial judgment against former President Donald Trump of $354 million in damages and being barred from serving as a corporate officer or a director of a company in the state for three years means he is a “broken person psychologically.” Sharpton said, “Let’s not forget, he’s still facing four trials he’s got to pay lawyers, and he doesn’t know how long the trials are going to last. He does not know what is going to be the consequence there. He can raise money. Whether...

Representative Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) said Friday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that if former President Donald Trump was reelected, he would “hand the keys over” to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Slotkin said, “I think that it’s hard again to explain these big things, but, you know, best guess is that the Ukrainians could run out of ammunition in the spring. Our best guess is they will run out of capabilities to protect places like Kyiv from ballistic missiles probably by the summer. You should expect massive refugee flows, the grain deal that we have on the table to continue to get...

Fani Willis, currently starring as Javert in the Fulton County dinner-theatre production of Les Magarables, took the stand yesterday. It was an arresting turn: FANI WILLIS: "Where's Belize? What continent? I'm not being funny. I don't know. I've been to Belize with him. I've been to The Bahamas with him. I've been to Aruba with him. Don't embarrass me. I'm not sure what continents those are on." pic.twitter.com/Cs1sGFT5je — Benny Johnson (@bennyjohnson) February 15, 2024 Well, you can't really blame someone in Georgia for not knowing the Bahamas are in Antarctica. On the other hand, Florida is a contiguous state......

Deep underground, encased by the rolling hills of North Virginia, lies a subterranean paradise and musical marvel. The Luray Caverns boast the most extensive cave system in the eastern United States, but for the millions of visitors who flock there each year, it’s not just the beautiful rock formations that reel them in. These natural walls also house the eerie vibrations that emanate from the world’s largest musical instrument. Locked away, deep in the labyrinthine passages of the Luray Caverns, is The Great Stalacpipe Organ. This instrument is a natural wonder that brings a new meaning to “rock music”. The...

True crime has become one of the most popular forms of modern media, whether it’s through documentaries, movies, TV shows, podcasts, or books. It’s been a goldmine for Hollywood for decades, but there hasn’t been a case to shock Tinseltown to its core quite like the Black Dahlia. On January 15th, 1947, local housewife Betty Bersinger spotted what she thought was a mannequin lying in an empty lot on Los Angeles’ Norton Avenue, only to discover that she was looking at a mutilated corpse. The body of Elizabeth Short was split at the waist, and sections of her flesh had...

On January 24, Stanford University held a forum on combating anti-Semitism. The event, which featured Stanford president Richard Saller and provost Jenny Martinez, was meant to reassure Jewish students that the university had their back amid the wave of anti-Semitism sweeping college campuses.... The events that transpired that night undercut that message. By the end of the evening, protesters had physically threatened Jewish students, harassed a rabbi, and told employees of the elite university that they would "find out where you live." David Schuller, 24, a yarmulke-wearing graduate student in Stanford’s physics department, found himself surrounded by a mob of...

Not all those who wander are lostJust like the otherworldly maps which often grace the inner covers of these wondrous books, the realm of fantasy novels is surprisingly wide-ranging, with numerous sub and hybrid genres existing within. From full-blown fantasy featuring witches, dragons, magic and mayhem, to dystopian takes that offer an almost satirical commentary on contemporary reality – the choices are endless and rather daunting, making it difficult to know where to start. An enduring genre nonetheless, it’s particularly fascinating that so much of our adoration for fantasy novels comes from our experience of them as children. When reread...

A Manhattan judge has ruled that legendary Eagles singer Don Henley can be questioned over an incident in 1980 in which a 16-year-old prostitute suffered a drug overdose in his Los Angeles home. The musician, 76, has accused memorabilia dealer Glenn Horowitz, Craig Inciardi and Edward Kosinski of stealing handwritten notes and lyrics for the Eagles' blockbuster 1976 album Hotel California. All three have been accused of trying to sell the materials, worth more than $1million, and lying to auction houses, prospective buyers and cops about how they obtained them between March 2012 and December 2016. Horowitz, 68, of Manhattan;...
