It’s hard to imagine, looking at the incredible sunrise over the hills here in the Galilee this morning, that just a few hours ago our kibbutz was being ripped apart by supporters of our neighbor, Likud MK Amichai Chikli. For months now, every Friday at exactly 16:30, peaceful demonstrations have taken place outside his house. Nearer our backyard than his, in fact, for his personal guards set up fences to ensure they are not too near his actual residence. Which means the demonstrations take place on the doorsteps of all of his neighbors’ houses. Week after week we have listened...

On July 24, 1952, Stanley Kramer’s High Noon was released and subsequently won 4 Oscars. Wikipedia reports that the film was “one of the first 25 films (selected) for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” in 1989, the NFR’s first year of existence.” As I see it, the greatness of the movie is in showing how good government depends on the performance of exceptional individuals and just how hard modern centuries make it for those individuals to want to stay in government. The heroes we need are getting harder and harder...

Big Tech companies are deliberately manipulating the outcomes of our elections and the thinking and beliefs of our children. And they are having an enormous impact. If you doubt that, consider this latest snippet of data from my lab, the American Institute for Behavioral Research and Technology (AIBRT).Consider this: The GOP currently has a slim 10-seat majority in the House of Representatives. Without Google's interference in 2022, it would likely now have a majority of between 27 and 59 seats. The 2022 midterm elections that gave the Democrats a two-vote majority in the U.S. Senate had quite a bit of help from...

China’s economic recovery seems to have stalled, and the CCP’s standing at home still depends on Xi Jinping’s government creating a “Chinese dream” of a middle-class lifestyle. The end of Covid restrictions, just eight months ago, seemed to mark the start of a powerful bounceback in consumption; travel agencies were besieged by people booking holidays they had been denied for nearly three years. But in the past few months there have been more worrying signs. Youth unemployment is growing: about one in five of China’s 16- to 24-year-olds were unemployed in June. Many university graduates have had to take jobs...
