President Biden issued an order Friday directing federal agencies to check-in with residents of East Palestine, Ohio, after a train derailment earlier this month. After hurricanes and other natural disasters, similar “walk teams” perform the same duties. Biden didn’t specifically say how many homes need to be visited, but he said he told employees to visit as many homes as possible by Monday.

National Security Council strategic communications coordinator John Kirby told reporters in a White House briefing on Friday that there is "no indication" that any of the billions of dollars in defense aid the U.S. has sent to Ukraine has been misplaced or stolen as GOP lawmakers push for an audit. On a call with reporters, Kirby said the White House takes accountability for the funds Congress has appropriated for Ukraine "seriously" and that the American people deserve to know their tax dollars are being spent wisely. "We have seen no indication to date that any of the resources or weapons...

During a portion of an interview aired on Friday’s edition of ABC’s “World News Tonight,” President Joe Biden said he’s “not sure how many are asking” how long we can continue to spend money on Ukraine at the current rate and we’re in a position where the cost of walking away from the conflict “could be considerably higher than the cost of helping Ukraine maintain its independence.” Host David Muir asked, “[H]ow does this war end and what does victory look like?” Biden responded, “Well, that depends on what the Ukrainians decide. But here’s what we have to do in...

He is one of at least four journalists being investigated for reporting or commenting on the earthquake. Press freedom groups say dozens more have been detained, harassed or prevented from reporting. Mr Koçer was touched by the influx of volunteers and rescue teams coming from Western Turkey, and he shared their stories on Twitter. Some of the survivors told him they received no aid for days. Similar complaints were cited across pro-opposition media outlets. Visiting the earthquake-affected areas, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told the people he would rebuild their cities. But he also warned that those spreading "fake news" and...

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he plans to meet China's leader Xi Jinping to discuss Beijing's proposals on ending the war in Ukraine. Speaking on the first anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion, he said the proposal signalled that China was involved in the search for peace. ... China's plan calls for peace talks and respect for national sovereignty. However, the 12-point document does not specifically say that Russia must withdraw its troops from Ukraine, and it also condemns the usage of "unilateral sanctions", in what is seen as a veiled criticism of Ukraine's allies in the West. The Chinese...

Maya Angelou famously once said, "When people show you who they are, believe them." This quote came to mind when Democrats on social media actually became upset over former President Donald Trump delivering hundreds of bottles of water to the residents of East Palestine, Ohio. Whatever criticisms one has of the former president, getting angry over him distributing water is ridiculous. And just as Angelou said, this disdain showed the country exactly who these people are: unhinged fanatics with an irrational hatred of Trump. ... Many left-wing social media accounts spread an unsubstantiated claim that Trump distributed "expired water." Obviously,...

It appears that the Biden franchise is about to follow a new vision for the male scion of President Joe Biden. Just as Christopher Nolan introduced a darker Batman, a new team of political advisers and lawyers have reinvented Hunter Biden in a new and more menacing image. Biden is threatening lawsuits and reportedly preparing a scorched Earth campaign against political and media critics. He is even in court trying to prevent his own daughter from using his name. Welcome to the new Dark Biden. Hunter Biden has long been a reclamation project for the media and the Biden team....

O'Neill, however, pushed back on the generals' confidence and their plan for achieving victory. "Generals never seem to have an answer [to] what is winning,"..."But just like anything from war to the vaccine, there's no money in the cure..."So why is this money that we're sending to Ukraine going where we want it?...We're giving the best tanks in the world to people that can defend with them, but then they can also go to the Red Square like they're saying,"...It's a self-licking ice cream corner,..."There's no game plan. There's no preparation."

Link only - USA Today But here's a reader comment: "Volkswagen Car-Net would not track the car while the 2 year old was still in it without a re-activation fee. I won't ever own a VW as a result. Unbelievably convenient for them to leave that out." And here's a different reader responding to that comment: "Agreed. It’s part of the official statement from the Lake County sheriff’s office but it’s not surprising on the part of VW. The people who answer those calls are NOT allowed to make judgment calls. “Follow the script” has been writ in corporate stone...

The nation's largest grid operator is warning it may face a major coming shortfall in electric generating capacity as utilities retire more and more traditional fossil fuel power plants. It's a challenge facing grid operators across the country as power generators mothball coal and natural gas-fired plants for various reasons, such as reducing high maintenance and regulatory compliance costs or cutting greenhouse gas emissions. ... PJM Interconnection, which manages grid operations across 13 states and the District of Columbia, published new analysis Friday showing retirements outpacing new additions in the coming years that could leave its service area short of...

We are only 20 months away from the next Presidential election, and at this stage, the Republican party should be starting to whittle down its field of contenders. Yet here we are with most of the people expected to run still sitting it out, silent. It’s true that Nikki Haley has started her campaign, as have a few outriders like Vivek Ramaswamy, to whom I wish much luck. But the serving or former officials who should have started their campaigns by now are still sitting it out. Leaving the ground open for Trump to do stunts like his Ohio trip...
