President Biden insisted that he wouldn't change anything after Democrats had a better night than expected in Tuesday's midterm races Asked what he would alter, given 75% say they are unhappy with the country's direction, he said: 'Nothing, because they're just finding out what we're doing' Critics accused the president of arrogance, noting that he was crowing as if he had secured a huge victory, when in fact Congress was too close to call Yet the president was in a jovial mood after his party kept a red wave from crashing over the country in House, Senate and gubernatorial races...

Be careful what you wish for, liberal media: you might get it. Morning Joe was in a great good mood today, glorying in the absence of a midterm red wave. And Joe Scarborough wasted no time in taunting Donald Trump. Willie Geist is normally the most even-handed of the Morning Joe crew. So it was surprising that he authored the unkindest cut of all. Referring to Ron DeSantis's stunning victory in the Florida governor's race, in which he won by almost 20 points and carried outright the traditional Dem stronghold of Miami-Dade, Willie said: "It would appear this morning, this...

There are no close races in California's slate of propositions. With 94.5% of precincts reporting at least some results as of 5 a.m. Wednesday, each race is all but decided. Here's where things stand for each proposition: Proposition 1, which codifies the constitutional right to abortion and contraceptive access in California, is passing by a margin of 65.2% to 34.8%. Proposition 26, which would legalize sports gambling on tribal lands, got a no vote from a whopping 70.1% of voters. Proposition 27, which would legalize online sports betting, is doing even worse. Almost 84% of voters are rejecting it. Proposition...

Reparations, or “loss and damage” funding, are seen as a fundamental question of climate justice. The hot-button issue made history on Sunday at the opening of the COP27 climate summit by being formally adopted onto the agenda for the first time. The decision to include loss and damage funding as an agenda item, which was proposed by Pakistan, was preceded by 48 hours of talks. Climate envoys gathered in Egypt’s Red Sea resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh will now discuss a deal on a funding facility that would see wealthy nations provide loss and damage cash to vulnerable countries. Pakistan’s...

The Republicans had a pretty good midterm election despite what pundits are claiming. The GOP must win three of the remaining four Senate races to win control of the upper chamber — a goal well within reach as Republicans lead in Nevada and Wisconsin. And the party is within spitting distance of a House majority. But no red wave. A combination of better-than-expected Democratic enthusiasm and underperforming Republican candidates squandered several opportunities to flip House seats and give the GOP a sizable House majority in January. How did this happen? If you ask most of the media, the fault for...

How Gov. Gavin Newsom survived a recall election and then sailed through to victory in Tuesday’s midterm elections is a whole other issue to be discussed. Right now, Americans need to worry about what the passing of Proposition 1 means for unborn babies’ lives in California. Nearly two-thirds of California voters approved a measure on the ballot to preserve the “right” to abortion and contraception in the state constitution. Prop 1., would allow women to receive an abortion up until the time of birth, or when the baby is viable, meaning there are no limitations for when an unborn baby’s...

“Here We Go Again… Suspicious Ballots Arrive Way After Legal Deadline in Detroit,” Ben Wetmore reported on Wednesday, after a confusing election night. According to the Detroit Free Press, Michigan voters on Tuesday decided to enshrine reproductive rights, early voting and financial disclosures on behalf of certain elected officials into the state constitution. Voters in Oakland County came out to support transit. Meanwhile, incumbents Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Attorney General Dana Nessel won their respective races, according to the Associated Press’ unofficial results. U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee defeated Republican nominee Paul Junge in a contest...

The victorious reelection bids by Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Ron Johnson (R-WI) mean their ongoing investigations into Hunter Biden and their oversight of the FBI will continue, though how successful those efforts will be hinges on the yet-undetermined control of the Senate. Grassley won his eighth term in the Senate by handily defeating his Democratic opponent, retired Navy Vice Adm. Mike Franken, while Johnson emerged the winner in a close race for his third term against Democratic Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes. Both had vowed in recent days to make the Hunter Biden inquiry and FBI accountability top priorities if...

A recent op-ed in Newsweek explored a mother’s emotional roller coaster after a friend told her that had she been in her position, she would have aborted her child. Liz Brown discussed the aftermath of hearing that some people think it’s better for her son — who is severely autistic and nonverbal — to have been killed rather than born. Brown was having coffee with a friend when they began to discuss IVF and pregnancy. “[S]he said she couldn’t bear the thought of raising a disabled child and that she would have an abortion if she found out her fetus...

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has announced that incarcerated women in the state will now be able to receive taxpayer-funded abortions, at no cost to them. The policy change comes after a WBEZ investigation found that incarcerated women had been required to pay for their own abortions as well as the fees for the correctional officer accompanying them to appointments. “Moving forward, abortion procedures and their associated expenses will not be covered by incarcerated women,” Illinois Department of Corrections spokesperson Naomi Puzello wrote in a statement, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. “Those who previously paid for expenses will be reimbursed.” The...
