As Donald Trump hopes to be celebrating the victory of his endorsed Senate candidate in Ohio’s Republican primary, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan will be across the country delivering a blistering speech urging the GOP to shun the former president and choose new leadership. This split-screen scenario offers a preview of a 2024 White House primary that could include Hogan. [cut] This is not Hogan’s first rodeo for the Reagan library. Indeed, soon after Trump’s defeat at the hands of now-President Joe Biden in the 2020 election, the governor appeared at an event in Washington, D.C., sponsored by the institution. Channeling...

A new study published found that a combination of high-dose vitamin D, omega-3s, and a simple home strength exercise program (SHEP) showed a cumulative reduction by 61% in cancer risk in healthy adults aged 70 or older. Mechanistic studies have shown that vitamin D inhibits the growth of cancer cells. Similarly, omega-3 may inhibit the transformation of normal cells into cancer cells, and exercise has been shown to improve immune function and decrease inflammation, which may help in the prevention of cancer. Bischoff-Ferrari and her colleagues wanted to fill these knowledge gaps by testing the effect of daily high-dose vitamin...

Podcaster Katie Halper said former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s remarks at the late Madeleine Albright’s memorial service this week were “out of touch.” During a eulogy for Albright, the first woman to serve as secretary of state, Clinton spoke about a remark Albright made during the 2016 Democratic presidential primary, when Clinton was running against Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.).

A proposed California desalination plant that would produce 50 million gallons of drinking water per day failed a crucial regulatory hurdle on Monday, possibly dooming a project that had been promoted as a partial solution for sustained drought. The staff of the California Coastal Commission recommended denying approval of the Huntington Beach plant proposed by Poseidon Water, controlled by the infrastructure arm of Canada’s Brookfield Asset Management. The commission’s staff said the project was more susceptible to sea-level rise than was understood when it was first proposed more than two decades ago. The plant is expected to produce 50 million...

An 88-year-old retired NYPD cop living out his golden years in Ireland was busted in a dragnet worthy of a Hollywood movie — for keeping an old, decommissioned revolver in his home. The daring morning police raid was the largest in recent memory in the tiny village of Swanlinbar, County Cavan, population 200, when up to 10 armed officers in six vehicles descended on the picture-postcard hamlet.

The U.S. government faced a potential nuclear crisis in 2020, when Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley, fearing then-President Donald Trump would order the U.S. military to strike China, plotted to thwart any such directive with a scheme that one prominent Republican lawyer likened to “‘The Caine Mutiny’ with plutonium.” The podcast was taped with New York litigator George Conway and Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carol Leonnig on the panel. All three, to varying degrees, expressed skepticism as to whether Trump will ultimately be indicted for his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election — despite the...

Look up in the sky at the right moment this weekend and you could see two of the solar system's brightest planets almost touching. Venus and Jupiter will be millions of miles apart, but from Earth they will appear close to colliding. This planetary conjunction happens annually but this year they will appear much closer than usual. The same spectacle won't occur again like this until 2039. Just the naked eye or binoculars should be enough to see it in a clear sky. After Saturday, the two planets will go their separate ways as they drift apart in the coming...

Calcium supplements are linked to a heightened risk of death among those with aortic valve stenosis, a progressive and potentially fatal condition, finds research. What's more, these supplements seem to worsen the condition, irrespective of whether or not they are combined with vitamin D. Aortic stenosis occurs when the aortic valve, the main outflow valve of the heart, stiffens and narrows. This means it can no longer open fully, reducing or blocking blood flow from the heart into the rest of the body. …Participants were divided into those not taking any supplements (1292;49%), those supplemented with vitamin D alone (332;12%),...

ecretary of State Tony Blinken, arguably the worst Secretary of State in modern US history, testified before Congress this week. During one interaction with Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) asked Blinken about Hunter Biden. Blinken refused to discuss hypotheticals. Maybe it’s because Tony Blinken met with Hunter back in 2015 when he was Deputy Secretary of State. The New York Post reported on their meeting back in November 2020. Hunter Biden sought a meeting with his president-elect dad’s pick for secretary of state shortly after joining the board of a controversial Ukrainian energy company in 2015, according to a report Tuesday....

Can you win by losing or conceding an election? Yes. At the moment, a growing number of people in politics — including many from the left — believe that both the Biden/Harris White House and the Democratic Party are damaged brands. Granted, in politics the negative can often be flipped back to the positive in a matter of weeks or months.

On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher stated that President Joe Biden needs to understand how important of an issue immigration is after the recent elections in France and past votes in the U.K. and U.S. and stated that working-class voters have “a reasonable argument, that there’s this elitist group that’s running the world that’s left us behind.”

A report from the Daily Wire states that the “FBI may have conducted millions of warrantless searches of Americans’ electronic data,” during the 2021 fiscal year, per a report released on April 29th from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). According to this report, from December 2020 through November 2021, the FBI conducted “fewer than 3,394,053” searches of U.S. data that was pulled from the National Security Agency (NSA). The rationale for the report reading “fewer than” when detailing the data inquiries is due to a rather complex and arguably funny bit of math in reporting data...

President Donald Trump called 2020 Democratic Senate candidate Sara Gideon "very attractive" in meeting, adding, "not that I've looked at a woman that way in five years," according to a forthcoming book by two New York Times reporters. Authors Jonathan Martins and Alexander Burns detail Trump's involvement in downballot races and 2020 meetings with party leaders in their forthcoming book "This Will Not Pass," which Insider obtained ahead of its May 3 release. Then-Senate Majority Mitch McConnell, they wrote, tried to avoid bringing up races where Trump disliked the Republican incumbent, like GOP Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, who openly...

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) – Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of trying to destroy the Donbas and all who live there. “The constant brutal bombardments, the constant Russian strikes on infrastructure and residential areas show that Russia wants to empty this territory of all people. Therefore, the defence of our land, the defence of our people, is literally a fight for life,” he said late Friday in his nightly video address to the nation.

Douglas Emhoff told a group that brings Jews and Muslims together that his history-making role as the second gentleman and as the first Jewish spouse of a president or vice president has brought him closer to Judaism. “I didn’t realize what a big deal it would be not only to the Jewish community and to faith communities but to myself,” Emhoff said Thursday at an iftar, or Ramadan break-fast, hosted by the Muslim Jewish Advisory Council. “It’s actually driven me closer to faith. It has opened my eyes to a lot of things.” Emhoff noted, for instance, the Passover seder...
