“[Christ] existed in the form of God” (Philippians 2:6). Christ possesses the very nature of God. In the second part of John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress, Christiana and her children travel toward the Celestial Country. During their pilgrimage, Interpreter introduces them to one of his male servants, whose name is Great-heart. When Christiana asks Great-heart to explain the nature of Christ’s forgiveness, part of his answer is: “He [Christ] has two natures in one Person, easy to distinguish but impossible to divide. There is a righteousness that belongs to both of these natures, and each righteousness is essential to that nature,...

When the children of Israel were going through testing, were they really supposed to express gratitude and thanksgiving in the midst of it? When they were surrounded and in a hopeless situation, did God really expect them to have a joyful reaction? Absolutely! That was the secret to getting out of their difficulty. You see, God wants something from all of us in our times of overwhelming troubles and testings. He wants us to offer him a sacrifice of thanksgiving in the midst of it all! I believe James had discovered this secret when he admonished, “My brethren, count it...

And then there’s this observation about the timing of the emergence of this variant: Kristian Andersen, an infectious disease researcher, estimates the virus emerged sometime way back in late September or early October, which suggests it is spreading very slowly. McClatchy reported late Wednesday that “Even before omicron was first detected in South Africa, state and local labs were collecting the genetic sequences of 15,000 to 20,000 diagnostic tests each week, allowing scientists to keep track of what COVID-19 variants were circulating in communities across the country. Thousands more are collected by private labs and academic institutions.” So omicron may...

Police are alerting schools, parents and community members of a potentially-dangerous challenge seen on TikTok which encourages others to kick in the doors of homes. In videos shared on TikTok, young people kick doors to the beat of the song "Die Young" by musical artist Kesha before running off. Some use enough force where doors are kicked open entirely. Jennifer Pritchard of the Petaluma Police Department in Petaluma, Cali., said danger is heightened when people are unfamiliar with TikTok trends and could interpret the prank as a "a real life or death situation." Pritchard said those participating in the door-kicking...

Close to half of all Americans say they are experiencing "some degree" of financial hardship thanks to inflation, and a large majority of low-income homes say the recent price hikes are hurting their families. These results come from a new Gallup poll, which says 45% of American households surveyed believe inflation is affecting them somewhat. Another 35% say the hardship is moderate, and 10% say the hardship is "severe." According to the Gallup poll, lower-income and less-educated Americans are the most affected. "Lower-income households are most likely to have experienced financial hardship due to price increases. Seventy-one percent of those...

It’s also possible OPEC+ will change its strategy or simply fail to meet its new production targets, putting upward pressure on prices. The cartel meets monthly to set targets, and if the Biden administration truly has some leverage over the group, sustaining it through the entirety of 2022 could be a much trickier matter. A month or two reprieve from rising pump prices won’t do Biden much good if they shoot back up next spring and summer. That would leave voters feeling pretty sour as they prepare to vote in the 2022 midterm elections next November, when Biden’s Democrats face...

Through the eight days of Hanukkah, it almost doesn't matter what you eat, as long as it's cooked in oil. A good case could be made for eating potato chips with every meal throughout the holiday. The story goes that in 165 B.C., the Maccabees, a small band of pious Jews, led a revolt that defeated the powerful Hellenist imperial army. The Hellenist forces had mandated pagan rituals into Jewish life and desecrated the Jews' temple. There was only enough consecrated olive oil left to keep the temple lamp burning for a single day, so a messenger was sent for...

A fully vaccinated Israeli doctor who became infected with the Omicron COVID-19 variant appears to have only passed the bug on to one other person — despite coming into close contact with dozens of people. Dr. Elad Maor, a cardiologist at Sheba Medical Center near Tel Aviv, told the UK’s Guardian he came down with symptoms and tested positive on Nov. 27 after attending a three-day conference in London over the weekend. “I got the Omicron in London, for sure,” Maor, who has received three doses of the Pfizer vaccine, told the outlet. “That is interesting because that was 10...

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, widely viewed as a potential 2024 presidential contender, said former President Donald Trump's administration didn't deliver on its most important policy priorities. Christie said Trump failed to build a wall on the southern US border, repeal the Affordable Care Act, and pass an infrastructure bill, despite making these promises central to his 2016 campaign. "We didn't get a lot of stuff done," Christie told Josh Holmes, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's former chief of staff, during a podcast interview that aired on Tuesday. "Let's just go through the list of things. The wall isn't...

The contract notes previously revealed Department of Justice investigations into the Cuomo administration’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, its cover-up of nursing home deaths and Cuomo’s $5.1 coronavirus memoir. But it adds, “DOJ has also undertaken an inquiry related to sexual harassment claims...
