Feast of Saints Simon and Jude, Apostles Luke 6:12-16 Friends, today’s Gospel recounts Jesus selecting and appointing the Apostles. Bible scholar and theologian N.T. Wright has explained why Jesus commissioned twelve disciples as Apostles. Wright tells us that when a first-century Jew spoke of the arrival of God’s kingdom, he was taken to mean something very specific. He was announcing that the temple was going to be restored, that the proper worship of Yahweh would obtain, that the enemies of Israel would be dealt with, and that, above all, the tribes of the Lord—and through them, the tribes of the...

There is a battle in Illinois right now over a 1998 law called the “Health Care Right of Conscience Act.” That law, passed at the time by a Republican State Senate and a Democrat State House, contains wide-ranging and admirable protections for conscience rights when they intersect with medicine, including anti-discrimination protections. The law makes it public policy to “respect and protect the right of conscience of all persons who refuse to obtain, receive or accept” health and medical services. It also prohibits “all forms of discrimination, disqualification, coercion, disability or imposition of liability upon such persons” on account of...

Joe Biden knows nothing…Joe Biden on electric cars: "When you buy an electric vehicle, you can go across America on a single tank of gas figuratively speaking. It's not gas. You plug it in." 11:06 AM · Oct 28, 2021·TweetDeck 454 Retweets 825 Quote Tweets 1,325 Likes https://twitter.com/TheFirstonTV/status/1453754986253410305 Obama 2008 redux. Tax credits for solar and wind. Everything is a lie. Solar panels are toxic and become hazardous waste when discarded. Wind farms are a blight upon America and they don’t work. Lithium mines rape the earth, and you can’t drive an electric car across America without hiring consultants to...

How do you make a rock doc without any concert footage? In his electric portrait of the Velvet Underground, the film-maker Todd Haynes elegantly sidesteps this conundrum. Unable to rely on archive material of their gigs, he turns instead to the early films of Andy Warhol, their friend, publicist and one-time manager.

The president of a California school district was caught cursing on a hot mic during a school board meeting Tuesday, after a parent gave a speech knocking masks in classrooms and COVID-19 vaccination mandates for students. Lauren Roupoli, who called herself a concerned parent, addressed the Los Alamitos Unified School District Board of Education and spoke about the problems she perceives are involved with enforcing a mask mandate in children. Her belief is that any possible benefit is far outweighed by the risks. In her fiery speech, she accused one board member of criticizing parents for voicing their legitimate concerns....

Internal financial pressures will mount as the Alec Baldwin film lacked a completion guarantee. Who believes that Rust — the Alec Baldwin movie that suspended production a week ago after the fatal shooting of the film’s cinematographer on a New Mexico set — will eventually be completed and released? The question isn’t the most important one following the accidental tragedy. Yet, it does inform the calculus on what’s to come. -snip- But the choice to finish or abandon the film could very well play a role on how this all shakes out. All productions begin with several rounds of risk...

“Asad”, an Afghan-American who returned to Kabul to get his extended family out, including parents, brother, sisters and their families, was one of hundreds my group of Afghan SOF vets was helping escape. His immediate family, wife & young boys all had blue passports and had been offered the chance to board a shuttle to the Kabul International Airport terminal, but he refused to leave the remainder of his family behind. This was the decision Asad was facing, and I believed he only had hours left to make the call. I texted him the following, “Asad, you need to make...

When CBS News pointed incorrectly to a region in Murcia, Spain when trying to locate La Palma, an island in the Canaries, the internet did its thing. I know, geography can be SO confusing! The Cumbre Vieja volcanic eruption sits on the Iberian Peninsula of Spain, but when CBS gave this report on the catastrophe, they pointed to a region in Murcia, Spain, 2,219 kilometres away. To be fair, a La Palma does exist in the region of Murcia near Cartagena. When speaking about an island, however, it is not too difficult to see the mistake when CBS points to...

Thursday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) attributed the recent uptick in violence in the United States’ major cities such as hers to the coronavirus pandemic. Lightfoot claimed there was “no question” there was a “COVID-related impact on the public safety system.” She also emphasized the need to fight the root causes of violence in cities like Chicago, which she said was poverty, lack of jobs and lack of hope.

"Words matter, and baseball 'bullpens' devalue talented players and mock the misery of sensitive animals," PETA exec Tracy Reiman said. The org. added that it's all a problem because bullpens are places where cows go before they're slaughtered on farms ... and where the animals go before they're treated poorly at rodeos. "Strike out the word 'bullpen,' which references the holding area where terrified bulls are kept before slaughter," PETA said, "in favor of a more modern, animal-friendly term."

The next time an MLB manager makes a moove to the bullpen, he will anger a large group of PETA activists who think the term bullpen is insensitive to cows. In a statement issued Thursday by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the animal rights organization made it clear they find the term “bullpen” to be mocking towards the “misery of sensitive animals.”

The private key used to sign EU Digital Covid certificates has been reportedly leaked and is being circulated on messaging apps and online data breach marketplaces. The key has also been misused to generate forged certificates, such as those for Adolf Hitler, Mickey Mouse, Sponge Bob—all of which are being recognized as valid by the official government apps. The Digital Covid certificate, or the "Green Pass" helps European Union residents travel across borders seamlessly by proving that they have either been vaccinated against COVID-19, received a negative test result, or successfully recovered from COVID-19. Karen Fann, the Republican leader of the Arizona state Senate, has said that Cyber Ninjas, the private company commissioned to conduct an audit of Maricopa County's election results, is now in "breach of contract" with the state for not providing audit-related documentation. In an October 26 letter to Cyber Ninjas and CEO Doug Logan, Fann said that she had previously sent Logan a September 14 letter. In that letter, Fann told the company to submit all its audit-related records to her in order to comply with a court order. Cyber Ninjas only provided 300 records, "an insubstantial percentage of all...

White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain has taken a lot of flak for his assertion that "Americans should stop whining about supply chain problems and inflation" and his suggestion that "they could forage through dumpsters for edible food." This week a woman going by the name "Dumpster Diving Freegan" boasted she found $1,000 of free food in the trash bin behind a Whole Foods Market. In her post to Tik Tok she explained that "everything was still packaged and unopened and nothing was past its use by date – and it was all just one day's worth of waste."...
