SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico’s elementary school students may be falling further behind, according to a review of preliminary academic data by legislative analysts that shows less than one-third of students are proficient. While New Mexico students tested poorly before the pandemic, the latest data suggests the outcomes are even worse as the percentage of those considered proficient and learning at grade level dropped from 37% to just 31% last spring. The report estimates students lost between 10 and 60 days of instruction. New Mexico already has fewer school days than many other states, and some rural schools...

Gretchen Whitmer and the state legislature have agreed on a budget proposal that includes language banning health officials from enforcing mask mandates in schools and preventing state public agencies from enforcing vaccines on employees or customers. "The director or local health officer shall not issue or enforce any orders or other directives that require an individual in this state who is under the age of 18 to wear a face mask or face covering," the 1,000-page budget states in one section. The language could mean that health officials’ mask mandates for K-12 students in areas such as...

An “underwater recovery team” has joined the search for Gabby Petito’s boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, in a 25,000-acre Florida reserve, according to reports. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office dive crew arrived at the Carlton Reserve on Wednesday to look for Laundrie, a person of interest in Petito’s death in Wyoming. The Sheriff’s Underwater Recovery Force, or SURF, is a team of “highly trained underwater specialists,” the sheriff’s website says. “Area resources are looking at large bodies of water, including dive teams, boats, and sonar equipment,” North Port police spokesman Josh Taylor said. “At this time, this does not mean anything has...

Sidney Powell revealed that her legal team is going to be able to ask Eric Coomer — the security director at the Colorado-based Dominion Voting Systems — two hours worth of questions in a deposition on September 23rd. The deposition was granted by the Colorado court overseeing a defamation lawsuit filed by Coomer that alleges Powell and other parties falsely accused him of being a key actor in “rigging” the election for President-elect Joe Biden. Asked by Richard Harris of Truth and Liberty Coalition if her legal team gets to ask Mr. Coomer questions in a deposition, Powell exclaimed, “Yes,...

Students at a Washington state school had been told they had to wear masks at all times — even while chewing their food during lunch. The bizarre COVID-19 protocols at the Geiger Montessori School in Tacoma, just outside Seattle, said students had to wear masks in the cafeteria and could lower them “only to take a bite or drink.” Principal Neil O’Brien spoke of the measures at a Parent Teacher Student Association meeting as recently as Sept. 14, according to the meeting’s minutes. “We all wear masks, even in cafeteria. Geiger practices spreading children out during meals, lowering only to...

We are entering a new and even more politically toxic phase of the pandemic. The initial promises of the vaccine campaign – it will allow for an end of masking, never be forced upon those who don’t want it, and herd immunity will not require everyone to get the shot – have been abandoned. Not only that, but those at the top of the government and health bureaucracy have adopted a tone that is hostile to anyone who remains hesitant to get a COVID vaccine. The growing spasm over unconstitutional overreach from the Biden team has been building for months....

Renderings have been released of an eye-opening Las Vegas resort that takes the form of a giant moon. Its name? 'Moon', naturally. According to the Canadian entrepreneurs behind it, it would cost £3.6billion ($5billion) to build and, with a height of 224 metres (735ft), would become the joint-second-tallest building in Sin City with the JW Marriott, which is currently the second-loftiest structure behind the 350m- (1,149ft) tall Strat Observation Tower. The celestial retreat – which would be the world's largest sphere - features 4,000 hotel rooms, a 'crater café', a spa, a casino, a lagoon and guests seeking a space-age...

Mayor Bill de Blasio rebuffed demands by Democratic lawmakers, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, for an instant release of all Rikers Island detainees due to increasingly dangerous conditions at the jail, refusing to “just open up the gates.” “That’s not going to happen,” de Blasio said Wednesday during his daily press briefing, held remotely from Queens Borough Hall. “I respect the Congress member and her colleagues who signed that letter, [but] couldn’t disagree with them more,” he added. “It’s not going to happen, it’s not the right way to handle things.” On Tuesday, AOC along with Reps. Jamaal Bowman, Nydia Velazquez...

Actress Uma Thurman revealed for the first time Tuesday that she aborted her unborn baby when she was a young adult just beginning her career. Though Thurman insisted that she has “no regrets,” her abortion story is full of pain and trauma. She admitted that, after more than three decades, it “saddens me even now.” The 51-year-old actress (“Pulp Fiction,” “Les Misérables”) wrote about her abortion in an op-ed at the Washington Post. She also criticized the new Texas heartbeat law, which is saving as many as 100 babies and mothers from pain, regret and death every day. “This law...

As Democrats consider legislation to respond to a new Texas state ban on abortion after about six weeks of pregnancy, they have lost the support of one of the few remaining Republicans who support abortion rights. Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) said Tuesday she opposes the Democrats’ bill, which would prohibit states from enacting restrictions on abortion through fetal viability. The House is expected to approve the bill Friday. In the Senate, Democratic leaders are considering whether to bring it to a vote. Democrats, led by bill author Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, say their legislation would “codify” the Supreme Court’s...

Several federal agencies under the Biden Administration have been purchasing surveillance drone technology from Chinese companies, even though the technology had previously been labeled a national security threat by the Department of Defense, according to Fox News. Purchases have been made by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the U.S. Secret Service, with the drones being provided by the company DJI, which is based in Shenzhen. The purchase of eight drones by the Secret Service was made on July 26th; just three days earlier, Biden’s own Defense Department had labeled DJI a national security threat. The FBI bought 19...

CNN reporter Chris Cillizza just sounded the alarm about the Dems doomed election prospects in 2022 and beyond after Joe Biden has led the country from debacle to debacle with no end in sight. Cillizza simply wrote: “This poll should terrify Democrats ahead of 2022,” before breaking down the horrific numbers for Biden from a new Iowa poll. Yes, Iowa voted for Trump twice but Obama won it and the Dems believe they can be competitive there in both Senate and presidential races. Cillizza says the new polls show that is wishful thinking and worse, these numbers will translate to...
