Today I’m introducing a new page called “NEWS They Hide”. I debuted it several weeks ago, and I now plan to make it a permanent fixture on the Old School site. Why? Because I run across so much useful news, videos, and commentary that I want you to see. And even though Old School has begun bringing on guest contributors, we still can not keep up with the whirlwind changes going on in America and worldwide. But by drawing from content from across the Internet, we are able to show you a much more complete picture of where the world...

Ten people have died from Covid-19 this month, even as more than three in four people here have become fully vaccinated. Against this, we had 37 deaths between January last year, when Covid-19 arrived in Singapore, and July 2021. Over that period, more than 64,000 people had been diagnosed with the disease. So why has the number of deaths surged, even as vaccination rates here gone up? The short answer is the Delta variant. This variant, which is now infecting people in the community here, spreads two to four times more easily compared to the original wild type virus. People...

In Afghanistan, the Taliban are still allowing foreign nationals to leave via the Kabul international airport, but on Tuesday, the militant group decided to stop letting Afghans board American planes to leave as well. "We are asking the American please change your policy and don't encourage Afghans to leave," said Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid. "They can take all the people that belong to them," he said, referring to Americans. But, the Taliban have decided they need Afghan nationals to stay and help rebuild the country. Thousands of Afghans continue to flock to the Kabul airport in an attempt to flee...

“‘Do not be anxious for your life, as to what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor for your body, as to what you shall put on’” (Matthew 6:25). To worry about the future is to sin against God. Someone has said, “You can’t change the past, but you can ruin a perfectly good present by worrying about the future.” Worry does ruin the present, but even more important for the believer is to recognize that worry is sin. Let’s look at why that is so. Worry means you are striking out at God. Someone might say, “Worry...

Smithsonian Magazine reports that protein bars using crickets might be your next favorite snack. Crickets contain more protein than chicken or beef, and raising them are more environmentally sound. Crickets require less food and water to raise and produce one-eightieth the amount of methane as cattle. Eating insects sounds great in theory, but how do they fare as, well, fare? A company called Exo makes food items from crickets. According to its product website, crickets are "the closest thing to a perfect protein source this planet has ever seen." The company makes protein bars, but don't think that you'll have...

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki has just put out this statement following Joe Biden's meeting with G7 leaders earlier today. "The President conveyed that our mission in Kabul will end based on the achievement of our objectives," it begins. Biden, she says, also "confirmed we are currently on pace to finish by August 31". He provided world leaders with an "update on progress in evacuating Americans who want to come home, third-country nationals, and Afghans who were our allies during the war." Psaki says the president made clear that "with each day of operations on the ground, we have...

When a Bishop Outlaws Private Traditional MassesIn a three-page letter dated August 20, 2021, and addressed to “Dear Brothers in Christ,” Most Reverend David A. Zubik, Bishop of Pittsburgh, apparently in an effort to show that he is more Bergoglian than Bergoglio, takes a hearty step beyond what is demanded by a strict interpretation of Pope Francis’s motu proprio Traditionis Custodes [TC]. In spite of the fact that Pittsburgh is one of the United States’ most depressed and collapsing dioceses—as can be seen from relentless parish closures that have left the city pockmarked with churches converted into restaurants, bars, penthouses,...

Feast of Saint Bartholomew John 1:45-51 Friends, in today’s Gospel, Nathaniel declares to Jesus, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.” Nathaniel is also called Bartholomew, whose feast day we are celebrating. Anglican Scripture scholar N.T. Wright has told us that when a first-century Jew spoke of the arrival of God’s kingdom, he was taken to mean something very specific. He was announcing that the temple was going to be restored; that the proper worship of Yahweh would obtain; that the enemies of Israel would be dealt with; and that, above all, the tribes...

Los Angeles-area police say they have recovered roughly 300 unopened mail-in ballots for California's gubernatorial recall election from an occupied vehicle parked outside a 7-Eleven. The discovery occurred when officers from the city of Torrance police department were called to the convenience store Aug. 16 to find a man sleeping in the parked vehicle. A search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded gun, drugs, and the ballots, according to Sgt. Mark Ponegalek said Monday. Ponegalek says the ballots were "un-tampered" with, according to the Daily Beast, and that many were such communities as Lawndale and Compton. The sergeant also said...

The bigger the wind turbine, the better the production and the economics. Hence, they're scaling up to ludicrous proportions.MingYang Smart Energy ============================================================================== China's MingYang Smart Energy has announced an offshore wind turbine even bigger than GE's monstrous Haliade-X. The MySE 16.0-242 is a 16-megawatt, 242-meter-tall (794-ft) behemoth capable of powering 20,000 homes per unit over a 25-year service life. The stats on these renewable-energy colossi are getting pretty crazy. When MingYang's new turbine first spins up in prototype form next year, its three 118-m (387-ft) blades will sweep a 46,000-sq-m (495,140-sq-ft) area bigger than six soccer fields. Every year, each...

Tom Cruise's latest mission didn't go quite as expected, but it was still a success! While in the United Kingdom to film his latest Mission: Impossible film, the 59-year-old actor landed via helicopter in a family's field in Warwickshire. BBC News reports that Alison Webb and her family were told an "unnamed VIP needed somewhere to land," as the nearby airport, Coventry Airport, was temporarily closed. Cruise got permission to land his helicopter in her garden, and took some time to get to know the family. "I thought it would be kind of cool for the kids to see the...

The National Guard is hiring Internment/Resettlement Specialists. Let that sink in. Editors note: the National Guard has now removed the job listing. However, we have captured the screenshots to validate. The Organic Prepper acquired this link from INDEED posting this position for the National Guard on 08/16/2021. With Biden's sudden withdrawal from Afghanistan, you might think that is the reason for the resettlement aspects of these listings...except they appeared BEFORE the withdrawal.

The Daily Caller’s Jorge Ventura filmed a Los Angeles firefighter speaking out against the vaccine mandate Saturday at a protest held in Santa Monica, California. “After the worst time of COVID, after the largest, most deadly spike, downturns in death, my employer—a governing body—is deciding to mandate a rushed vaccine,” the firefighter said at the “No Vaccine Passport Rally.” “Not only that it will be mandated, but it’s a condition of my employment. We’ve gone from essential frontline worker to next on the chopping block.” “Such times of uncertainty really forced me to really think and examine my surroundings,” he...

The Dalton School hosts an annual conference for New York City private schools on diversity, equity, and inclusion. This May, it was Rodney Glasgow’s turn to deliver the keynote address. Glasgow, a longtime school administrator who has founded multiple DEI consultancies, used his speech to address the elephant in the room: the parental pushback to "antiracism" at Dalton and other elite private schools, which made national headlines after Dalton headmaster Jim Best resigned amid the uproar. The disgruntled parents, Glasgow said, were like the "white supremacists" who stormed the Capitol. And the schools that had admitted their children were like...

NEW YORK — Hours after leaving office, scandal-tainted former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo suffered another defeat Tuesday, losing the special Emmy Award he received last year for his daily, televised briefings on the coronavirus pandemic. The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences said in a statement that given Cuomo’s resignation amid a torrent of sexual harassment allegations it was taking away the prize and removing any reference to him in its official materials.
