Tony Esposito, the pioneering Hall of Fame goaltender who played almost his entire 16-year career with the Chicago Blackhawks, has died following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer, the team announced Tuesday. He was 78. Esposito debuted with Montreal during the 1968-69 season and appeared in 13 games. He was then left unprotected with the Canadiens deep in goalies and taken by the Blackhawks in an intraleague draft for $25,000, an investment that paid immediate dividends for a team that finished last in its division. Esposito helped lead the Blackhawks to first place, showcasing his butterfly style to post a...

For all of my adult life I have identified as a progressive. To me, being a progressive meant that I believed in empowerment. In 2002, when I co-founded a labor-environmental coalition to advocate for renewable energy, the symbol we chose to represent us was of Rosie the Riveter, an image of a woman factory worker during World War II flexing her muscle beneath the words, “We Can Do It!”. When President Barack Obama ran for office in 2008, it seemed fitting to me that he chose the slogan, “Yes we can!” But now, on all the major issues of the...

During an earnings call, Moderna seemed to admit that their COVID-19 vaccine only lasts for 6 months, adding that a third “booster” shot will “likely be necessary” due to the Delta variant, which experts have compared to hay fever or the common cold. Moderna released a statement on Thursday claiming that their COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness “does not wane in the first 6 months after the second dose,” reported the New York Times. However, Moderna appeared to change their tune during an earnings call shortly after, claiming that booster shots would be necessary this fall to curb the Delta variant, which...

Today the UN ‘sounded the alarm’, and like Jack Nicholson’s character in ‘A Few Good Men’, they have ‘issued the Code Red’ on Climate Change, saying that the damage that has been done cannot be undone for maybe another thousand years. Maybe. But the good news is that the Carbon Tax will help hold off the inevitable. Welcome to the Unintentional Climate Comedy Hour where the joke is always…on you! Did I say ‘unintentional’? How funny. Yes, the climate is indeed changing as the world prepares itself for the Day of the Great King, and here’s a prediction. The feeble...

The Martha’s Vineyard Airport reported a major jam-up of private jet traffic over the weekend, much of it stemming from President Barack Obama’s 60th birthday bash, held Saturday. Airport manager Geoffrey Freeman said private jets crowded the tarmac at the small airport all weekend, draining fuel supplies and straining staff. “Traffic was very increased, due to the party,” Mr. Freeman said. “Thankfully it wasn’t the fully-fledged party that it was originally planned as, because it would have put us way beyond our capacity, both for fuel and for parking spacing.” The large private party at the Obama home in Edgartown...

In light of the recent surge in COVID cases and concern about the spread of the Delta variant, Bishop Edward Burns has postponed reinstating the requirement for Catholics to attend Mass in person in the Diocese of Dallas. The dispensation which waived this requirement had been scheduled to end on Sunday, August 15, 2021. Masses will continue to take place; however, the obligation to attend remains lifted.

Explanation: What does fire look like in space? In the gravity on Earth, heated air rises and expands, causing flames to be teardrop shaped. In the microgravity of the air-filled International Space Station (ISS), however, flames are spheres. Fire is the rapid acquisition of oxygen, and space flames meet new oxygen molecules when they float by randomly from all directions -- creating the enveloping sphere. In the featured image taken in the ISS's Combustion Integration Rack, a spherical flame envelopes clusters of hot glowing soot. Without oxygen, say in the vacuum of empty space, a fire would go out immediately....

ST PAUL, Minn. — A Minnesota group that advocates for the rights of gun owners is suing the organizers of the Minnesota State Fair for its policy banning gun owners with valid permits from carrying their firearms during the fair. The Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus filed suit in Ramsey County court on Tuesday, seeking an injunction against the fair's gun policy. The lawsuit names the defendants as the State Agricultural Society, which is in charge of the Minnesota State Fair, as well as Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher, after the county agreed to provide security at the fair in 2021....

Ok, it amy be a conspiracy theory, but we need new ones since all teh old ones seem to be coming true. First, some known facts: The Biden administration is flooding the country with illegal aliens, or at least allowing and encouraaging that flood. Many --MANY! -- of them are carrying COVID. They are being sent to various places around the country, and nobody is allowed to know where. There has been an upsurge in COVID, and some red states have seen an uptick in their previously very low rates. Biden is known to hate DeSantis and other red-state governmors....

Francis and Zanchetta: Liberals Protect Each OtherInés San Martín, CruxNow.com's leading journalist on the Zanchetta case, suggested on Twitter.com (August 10) that Francis might have acted out of a "sense of charity" in bringing the former Oran bishop, Argentina, to Rome while allegations against him were investigated. She admits that ample evidence of homosexual misconduct against Zanchetta were parked in a drawer, with Francis choosing "to believe his friend.” San Martín recalls that when the allegations “escalated,” Francis again "trusted" Zanchetta, and only later sent him to Spain for a "therapy."The journalist insists that Francis took too long to act because...

Ever wonder how cheap, no-name products on Amazon can amass hundreds, sometimes thousands, of nearly perfect star ratings, with just a handful of negative reviews? Here's one way: Some sellers are reaching out to unhappy buyers to revise or delete their negative reviews, in exchange for refunds or gift cards. With fewer disgruntled shoppers, the overall average star rating rises. Sellers who ship products via Amazon aren't supposed to reach out to customers outside of Amazon's official channel -- in fact, it's a violation of the terms they agree to on the retail platform. In March, New Yorker Katherine Scott...

What started as Texans seeking to protect a local river has morphed into a political firestorm after a Chinese billionaire and member in good standing with the Chinese Communist Party snapped up 140,000 acres in the state on the border with Mexico near Laughlin Air Force Base. And Chinese real estate tycoon Sun Guangxin is not only a neighbor to a top U.S. military installation, but he is planning a wind farm on the property, meaning the operation could be connected to the electricity grid in the state. Devils River Conservancy was the first to sound the alarm about foreign...

Democrats on Capitol Hill are proving their socialist stripes: They’ve reportedly considered raiding the “super-sized retirement savings accounts” of the wealthy to pay for their $3.5 trillion progressive spending fiasco. On Tuesday, Politico reported that congressional Democrats are “aghast that hundreds of Americans have IRAs worth more than $25 million, and nearly 30,000 have accounts with balances topping $5 million.” (The nerve of them, no?) On the other hand, they observe, some folks “have little to no retirement savings” — also surely the fault of those who work hard and save their money over the course of their lives. Meanwhile,...

Subway franchisees across the country are demanding that ads featuring soccer star Megan Rapinoe be dropped because of her anti-American antics. Her stint as a pitchwoman for Subway began this spring. Subway Franchises Blast Rapinoe Rapinoe has been hired as a spokesperson for Subway despite the fact that she is known as the Colin Kaepernick of the women’s soccer world. She regularly takes a knee during the national anthem before soccer games. A Wisconsin Subway operator recently took to the discussion forum of the North American Association of Subway Franchisees to post a photo of a hand-scrawled note from an...

The clock has been ticking for a long time, and now Israel is telling us that Iran is "only around 10 weeks away from acquiring weapons-grade materials necessary for a nuclear weapon". The Israelis have always been very clear about the fact that they will never, ever allow the Iranians to get to that point, and so that would appear to leave only 10 weeks remaining to avert a major war in the Middle East. And let us certainly hope that war can be averted, because a major war in the Middle East could easily spark a full-blown global war....
