A mayor on the Texas-Mexico border is slamming Joe Biden and his state's federal lawmakers after he was forced to declare a disaster over the surging number of migrants infected with COVID being released into his city. The city commission voted on Tuesday to set up emergency tents to house the overflow of migrants, but moved it to a county-owned facility further away from residents...

MARTON TOWNSHIP, TX,—Ryan Flowers has a problem: he's getting evicted. His evil landlord has asked him to vacate the premises, since he hasn't taken care of one tiny detail in over a year: "paying rent." "If only there were some way I could go out and exchange my labor or services for money I could use to pay rent," he said sadly as he sat on a bench in the city, right in front of a giant "HELP WANTED" sign. He sighed and shuffled his feet. " "Alas. No such system of voluntary exchange of labor and services for money...

Progressive Democratic Rep. Cori Bush has admitted she is willing to fork out $200,000 for private security to protect herself — but says defunding the police still needs to happen. The Missouri Rep. declared in a CBS interview on Wednesday that — despite advocating to defund police — she needed private security because she’d faced death threats. The 45-year-old member of “The Squad” has faced mounting criticism in recent weeks after it emerged she had spent $70,000 on private security in the last three months. Asked to respond to those who branded her a hypocrite, an unapologetic Bush hit back...

A man was arrested Wednesday for storming the US Capitol dressed in a George Washington costume during the January 6 insurrection. Isaac Yoder, a locksmith from Nevada, Missouri, earlier admitted that he entered and exited the Capitol through a 'west facing door'. Federal agents used phone tracking and facial recognition to arrest Yoder following the riot on January 6. In footage from the incident, people appear to push past police officers and fight with law enforcement to gain unlawful entry to the Capitol, which Yoder denies is something he would have done. He said: 'If there's a police officer standing...

A study has identified new factors accompanying previous findings that frequent consumption of peanuts by cancer patients could increase risk of cancer spread. The study shows that Peanut agglutinin (PNA) -- a carbohydrate-binding protein that rapidly enters into the blood circulation after peanuts are eaten -- interacts with blood vascular wall (endothelial) cells to produce molecules called cytokines. The cytokines, IL-6 and MCP-1 are well-known promoters of cancer metastasis. The increased cytokine production causes other endothelial cells to express more cell surface adhesion molecules, making them more attractive to the circulating tumour cells and thus potentially promoting metastasis. In an...

Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib is pushing for legislation that would let people who fail to pay their water, electricity or broadband bills off the hook. "Cancel water, electricity and broadband debt," the Squad member tweeted Wednesday morning. "#StopTheShutoffs." She changed her messaging Thursday afternoon – calling for a bailout instead of outright cancellation. "No one should live without water and critical services," she tweeted Thursday. "Congress bailed out the banks in 2008 when it was their own wrongdoing. There should be NO hesitation in bailing out people who, due to no fault of their own, are experiencing the impacts of...

1. A long time ago, there was a beehive in the middle of a forest. Every day, as worker bees do, they would go out into the fields, gather pollen from the flowers, and bring it back to make honey. The bees had a problem, though, because every so often an intruder would come around, such as a bear who wanted the honey, or kids who thought it'd be fun to throw rocks at the hive. Finally, the bees got tired of it. Being the intelligent bees that they were, they built an alarm system for the hive. They built...

Fasting before and during exposure to Salmonella enterica bacteria protects mice from developing a full-blown infection, in part due to changes in the animals' gut microbiomes, according to new research. When people or animals develop an infection, they often lose their appetite. However it remains controversial whether fasting protects a host from infection, or increases their susceptibility. In the new study, mice were fasted for 48 hours before and during oral infection with the bacteria Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium, a common cause of foodborne illness in people. Fasting decreased the signs of bacterial infection compared to fed mice, including nearly...
