The number of COVID-19 cases per day in the US has surged by more than 40% from the previous week amid the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant, the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention head said Thursday.
CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said the seven-day average for new cases daily was 89,463 on Thursday, up 43% from the week before.
“Across the board, we are seeing increases in cases and hospitalizations in all age groups,” Walensky said at the White House’s COVID-19 briefing.
Walensky said that new hospitalizations had increased by about 41% from the previous week, with a seven-day average of 7,348 admissions.
White House COVID-19 response chief, Jeff Zients, said that seven states with some of the lowest vaccination rates were driving the latest surges.

So 43% is the growth over the week before - so if you had 500 cases last week, this week you’d have 750. 50% higher than last week!!!! Run! Runnnnn!
Just saw another site post that Orlando has an 83% positivity rate! 83%!! Which makes you think it’s the population but that just means the 83% of the people who took the test last week because they thought they were sick were… get this… sick!

This morning when we got to his room, the pre-op nurse said that a new rule was in force starting today of no more than one visitor with the patient at a time because of covid. And she said we were lucky we came in this week because there is talk of shutting down elective surgery soon. I asked her point blank: "So all these new covid cases -- are they not vaccinated?"
Her answer: "50/50"
My daughter also happens to work at the hospital and a memo was emailed to the employees about their "concerns" of the recent upturn in covid admissions, and in the email they said they did not have the "information at hand" as to what the percentage of vaccinated/unvaccinated is in the new admissions (which is utter rubbish).
