It detects the virus and identifies it as SARS CoV-2. Further testing can identify which variant.

This has been known from the start.

Only 41 of the breakthrough cases have been confirmed as the Delta variant, but that's largely a function of the difficulty and the time required to undertake the genome sequencing to test for the variant.

I think the point is that the CDC and MSM keep yapping about this Delta variant being prevalent but it’s doubtful that they know an accurate count of how many people have Delta compared to Alpha.

I thought this for a long time. Now I’ve given up hope that people will actually care about the truth. So many are fully bought into the lies. You can show them stuff like this reply from the CDC itself and for a short instant there is recognition -— then hatred. They will deny the sky is blue if it protects what they’ve been fighting for on social media. The investment in falsehood is so much stronger than the truth.

I posted a story about the 1901-1903 Boston Smallpox epidemic (which gave rise to the SCOTUS case on forced vaccination). What was interesting (among other things) was that the data collection and statistics from that epidemic are more trustworthy than the current one.

Whole or partial genome sequencing seems to be the only method to identify a variant. Lengthy lab work. How much of that is being done? Who knows.
