Determined to convince tech companies to trade in views of the Golden Gate Bridge for the City of Big Shoulders, Mayor Lori Lightfoot spent Wednesday and Thursday wooing Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, even as the city reeled from the most violent weekend of 2021. Touting her administration’s efforts to “build the most diverse tech economy in the country” in Chicago, Lightfoot met with leaders of Uber Freight and Salesforce in San Francisco Thursday. The two tech firms announced plans to expand their operations in Chicago before the COVID-19 pandemic up-ended the U.S. economy. “We have no indication that it is anything...

The chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus celebrated her arrest Thursday after leading an incursion of protesters into the Hart Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill. Democratic Rep. Joyce Beatty of Ohio said that breaking the law was an important way to illustrate her belief that voting reforms passed by state legislatures will disenfranchise black voters. “I stand in solidarity with Black women and allies across the country in defense of our constitutional right to vote. We have come too far and fought too hard to see everything systematically dismantled and restricted by those who wish to silence us,” Beatty...

New Delhi [India], July 16 (ANI/Mediawire): There was a time when it was indeed survival of the fittest. A time when hurdles and obstacles from mother nature and other living beings lurked around every corner. How do you survive all by yourself if you are not armed with any weapon to fight back whatever comes your way? If we have to rewind this to many hundreds of years ago, one of the answers was Silambam. Silambam, the finest tune of art was used by kings, soldiers and even civilians as a foundation for honing the skills in defence tactics. Unlike...

Olivia Rodrigo schooled Anthony Fauci on "man crush Mondays" in a new video aimed at pushing young people to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The nation's leading infectious diseases expert and the "good 4 u" singer read tweets from fans in the pro-vaccination video released Friday by the White House. After Fauci reads aloud a tweet wishing him a "happy man crush Monday" and praising his "intelligence" and "compassion," he tells Rodrigo, "Well that's very nice to say that." When asked if he knows what the lovey-dovey term means, he responded with a laugh, "No idea." "Man crush Monday is just...

WASHINGTON, D.C.—After critics raised concerns regarding the constitutionality of the Biden administration's planned gulags for anti-vaxxers and insurrectionists, White House spokesperson Jen Psaki announced they will now avoid any legal pitfalls by having Facebook run the camps instead. "We are proud to announce that our gulags will be run by the beloved mega corporation Facebook!" said Psaki to reporters. "There are many problematic people in this country who desperately need re-education, and we can think of no one better to run the camps than the most powerful social media platform in history! Yay!" Unfortunately, none of the reporters were still...

Addison Rae excitedly greeted former US president Donald Trump after he made a ringside appearance at the star-studded UFC 264 fight in Las Vegas on Saturday night. In footage uploaded by YouTube channel NELK earlier this week, Rae was seen approaching Trump, 75, as he watched the UFC bout between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier from his ringside seat. The clip shows Rae tapping on Trump's shoulder to get his attention before she says: 'Hi! I'm Addison. Nice to meet you. I have to say hi, hello. So nice to meet you.' It's not clear what Trump said to her...

(UC San Francisco) =========================================================================== In a world first, US researchers have developed a neuroprosthetic device that successfully translated the brain waves of a paralyzed man into complete sentences, according to a scientific paper published Thursday. "This is an important technological milestone for a person who cannot communicate naturally," said David Moses, a postdoctoral engineer at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), and one of the lead authors of the study in the New England Journal of Medicine. "It demonstrates the potential for this approach to give a voice to people with severe paralysis and speech loss." The breakthrough involved...

U.S.—After coming out against the Cuban protesters who are fighting for their liberties against the oppressive Communist government, BLM has been forced to change its name for clarity's sake. Black Lives Matter will now be known as Black And Brown Lives Matter Unless They Are Being Oppressed By Communists, a "much more accurate, descriptive title," according to the organization. The name is abbreviated as BABLMUTABOBC, pronounced, "Babblemute-a-bobk." "People were getting the wrong idea from our name all the time," said one of BLM's founders as she sipped on liquid gold in the hot tub outside one of her homes. "They...

As another summer is upon us, white sharks are returning to feed in Massachusetts waters. Since 2009, DMF biologists (and collaborators) have been examining the movement ecology, behavior, natural history, and population dynamics of this species through its Shark Research Project. To date, agency staff have tagged more than 230 white sharks with a variety of high-tech tags to study their fine- and broad-scale movements. Most of these sharks were tagged off Cape Cod, but others were tagged off New York, New Jersey, South Carolina, and Florida. The sharks ranged in total length from 4.0-17.5 ft and were comprised of...

Have a look at this video footage of enviro loon activists blockading a McDonald’s meat plant in the UK. Do you smell a rat? I do. If you don’t smell a rat, here’s a suggestion: try filling a few buses and maybe a lorry with 100 of your smelliest friends, drive to the nearest food factory and start blockading the entrance with bamboo constructions. Maybe, for added drama, you could let off a few smoke bombs. Now see how long it takes before the police arrest you for a breach of the peace… Or, better still, here’s another idea: why...

Advocates for a safe supply of drugs handed out heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine outside the Vancouver Police Department Wednesday (July 14) afternoon. City Councillor Jean Swanson, along with members of the Drug User Liberation Front (DULF) and the Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users (VANDU), distributed the free drugs outside the Vancouver Police Department. The collective action demonstrates the "life-saving potential of a community-led response to the crisis of prohibition in Canada" as a necessary alternative to Vancouver's proposed model of decriminalization, explains a news release. The drugs that were handed out were tested via "FTIR spectrometry and immunoassay, and...

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was diagnosed with a “partial intestinal obstruction” on Wednesday after he was admitted to a hospital following ten straight days of hiccups, the Brazilian newspaper O Tempo reported. “After examinations carried out at the HFA [Hospital of the Armed Forces], in Brasília, Dr. [Antonio Luiz de Vasconcellos] Macedo, the physician responsible for surgeries on the President of the Republic [Bolsonaro]’s abdomen, resulting from the knife attack in 2018, found an intestinal obstruction,” a statement issued by Brazil’s presidential office on July 14 read. Crippled Religion Strikes Again – And Summorum Pontificum Gets the AxeToday, a new motu proprio letter was issued by Pope Francis imposing new (and in some respects brutal) suppressions on the usus antiquior of the Roman Rite. The truth is, we saw this coming. Rumors have been circulating for a while, and though the fact that we’ve heard similar things throughout this pontificate dulled our expectations some, as I wrote last month, “this has the feeling of something more substantive.”And so it was.For those who are most concerned with reading the documents for themselves, you can find the motu proprio...

“He did sermons with the head of his opponents on a pike.” London Mayor Sadiq Khan defended the impending placement of a statue of John Chilembwe, an anti-colonial activist who ordered the decapitation of William Livingstone in front of his children and then displayed his head on a pike, saying it served to “reflect London’s achievements and diversity.” Yes, really. Chilembwe was a Baptist pastor and educator who became a militant resistance fighter who railed against the treatment of Africans working in agriculture on European-owned plantations in Malawi in the early 1900’s. Chilembwe led a violent revolt against the Bruce...

This is incredibly sick. Fearing the reaction from Black Lives Matter, a Colorado school has rehired a black man accused of sexual crimes against dozens of children. A local Denver school has rehired Black Lives Matter leader Tay Anderson, who is currently under investigation for sex abuse, rape, and harassment of several persons, including 62 children. Tay Anderson denied the claims, blaming them on, of course, a “racist web hacker.” Anderson has resumed his duties on the school board after temporarily stepping down from his position at the school while the criminal investigation into his actions continues. “I am returning...
