Regular coffee consumption of at least one cup daily was associated with a lower risk of COVID-19 infection, according to a study. Researchers with Northwestern University published findings in the Nutrients journal, stemming from an analysis of nearly 40,000 participants in the U.K. Biobank. The team studied participants’ dietary habits from 2006 to 2010 and hypothesized the subsequent risk of coronavirus infection in 2020. Researchers specifically looked at participants’ consumption of coffee, tea, processed meat, red meat, fruit, vegetables and oily fish. After adjusting for factors like race, age, sex and other factors like physical activity, BMI level and history...

The law, known as Senate Bill 8, was signed by Gov. Greg Abbott in May and prohibits abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected, which is around six weeks of pregnancy. Although other states have passed similar bills, the Texas law is unique in that it allows private citizens to enforce the law through civil lawsuits. The New York Times spotlighted the law in a July 9 story and quoted a Planned Parenthood lawyer as saying there could be “a flood of suits across Texas’ 254 counties.” “It’s completely inverting the legal system,” said Stephen Vladeck, a constitutional law professor...

Here's an idea: for every ballot mailed out by an election board, affix a unique, and possibly random, bar code on each one. Keep a record of the bar codes. Place on the ballot in place of the signature block. When the ballot is received, check the bar code with a wand. That will identify duplicate and invalid ballots with no interpretation of a signature required.

First.....Administration Department of Energy chief scientist Steven Koonin shows that the models relied upon by the Left to predict future global warming are so poor that they cannot even reproduce the temperature changes in the 20th century. Second Koonin’s book also documents that the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s own analysis indicates that any negative economic impact that global warming eventually may have will be so modest that it warrants no action. Third, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the UN IPPC do not claim that a link has been established between global warming and natural disasters....

The EU’s border protection agency on Monday said it was mobilizing a rapid intervention force to Lithuania, where the government has accused neighboring Belarus of allowing hundreds of migrants to cross illegally into the country. The allegations that Belarus is “weaponizing” migrants in retaliation for EU sanctions and support for political opponents of the country’s long-time leader, Alexander Lukashenko, were discussed Monday in the European Parliament and in the EU Foreign Affairs Council. “It seems like the Belarusian authorities now facilitate irregular migration possibly in retaliation to EU restrictive measures and as a response to the Lithuanian support for the...

The Biden administration expressed concern Monday after sweeping anti-government protests in Cuba were forcibly dissolved at the direction of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermudez. Sunday’s protests, the largest the communist island has seen since the 1990s, come amid widespread frustration over a crippled economy and severe food shortages. The coronavirus pandemic is pushing the nation’s health-care system to its limit, as well. “The Cuban people are demanding their freedom from an authoritarian regime. I don’t think we’ve seen anything like these protests in a long long time if, quite frankly ever,” President Joe Biden told reporters at the White House...
