Trump's North Carolina speech was the first time a state Republican party publicly embraced Trump . And it did so on the eve of the five-month anniversary of the January 6 attack on the Capitol, which FBI Director Christopher Wray testified was an act of "domestic terrorism." Trump repeated the very lies that incited the Jan 6 insurrection, calling the 2020 election "the crime of the century." The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now claims that "healthy young children" can die from COVID-19. Marty Makary wants to see the evidence. "In reviewing the medical literature and news reports, and in talking to pediatricians across the country, I am not aware of a single healthy child in the U.S. who has died of COVID-19 to date," the Johns Hopkins University professor of medicine and public health said Thursday. Archived versions of the CDC's web page comparing COVID-19 and seasonal influenza show that it revised the "differences" in the section "People at High-Risk for Severe Illness" sometime between...

COVID shutdowns championed by U.S. governors and D.C. bureaucrats are responsible for destroying nearly 40% of small businesses since the virus was unleashed on the world—and we know now that it was for little to no damned good reason. A study by the Proceedings of the National Academies of Sciences revealed recently that shutdown orders made little to no difference in COVID’s impact. ... While bureaucrats gave Walmart, Costco, Lowe’s, and other big-box stores “essential” status, allowing them to stay open during the COVID pandemic, 38.9% of America’s small businesses, the providers of most of the country’s jobs, were forced...

Vice President Kamala Harris says she is determined to get at the “root causes” of the migration crisis at America’s southern border. There is one way to do that and at the same time stabilize Central America, attract factories from China, reduce America’s strategic vulnerabilities and cut global carbon emissions. Harris has just wrapped up her first foreign trip as vice president — she visited Guatemala and Mexico — but she barely touched upon the primary cause of the relentless northward movement of people. There are many reasons for the devastation of the Northern Triangle countries of Guatemala, Honduras, and...

On the first hot weekend of the summer, Richard Knapp put up a sign outside Mother’s Ruin, a bar tucked in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood. It had two arrows: one pointing vaccinated people indoors, another pointing unvaccinated people outdoors. The Instagram post showing the sign (above) quickly went viral among European anti-vaxxers on Reddit. “We started receiving hate mail through the Google portal,” Knapp says, estimating he’d received about a “few dozen” emails: “I’ve been called a Nazi and a communist in the same sentence. People hope that our bar burns down. It’s a name and shame campaign.” It wasn’t just the...

Infighting among different Black Lives Matter groups appears to be increasing after a coalition of Black Lives Matter chapters demanded transparency from the group’s global network amid reports that co-founder Patrisse Cullors spent millions of dollars on homes and real estate.Cullors, a self-described “trained Marxist,” stepped down from the group last month, but denied allegations that she misused any donations and said those claims—along with reports about her real estate holdings—were part of a right-wing misinformation campaign meant to discredit her and Black Lives Matter. But a group calling itself BLM 10 Plus, the name of the 10 original Black Lives...

Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Mark 4:26–34 Friends, today’s Gospel compares the kingdom of God to a mustard seed that when "it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants." It seems to be a law of the spiritual life that God wants good things to start small and grow over time. We’re tempted to say, "You’re God. Just get on with it. Do it!" But why would God work the way he does? We might attempt a few explanations. It is a commonplace of the Bible that God rejoices in our cooperation. He wants to involve...

The global elites responsible for ruining many of your lives and livelihoods got together this weekend in England to make more plans for the continuing destruction of Western civilization. A federal judge threw out a lawsuit filed by employees of a Houston hospital system over its requirement that all of its staff receive the experimental COVID-19 shot. The Houston Methodist Hospital system suspended 178 employees without pay last week over their refusal to get the shot. Of them, 117 sued seeking to overturn the requirement and over their suspension and threatened termination. In a scathing ruling Saturday, U.S. District Judge Lynn Hughes of Houston deemed lead plaintiff Jennifer Bridges’ contention that the vaccines are “experimental and dangerous” to be false and otherwise irrelevant.
