USA Today reports that alleged Fed-Ex attacker Brandon Scott Hole used two rifles to carry out his heinous act and both guns were purchased “legally.” USA Today notes that Hole purchased one rifle in July 2020 and the other in September 2020. Breitbart News reported that the March 22, 2021, Boulder attacker bought his gun “legally” too, as did the March 16, 2021, Atlanta-area gunman. In fact, the overwhelming majority of high profile attackers acquire their guns by complying with background checks, rather than going around them. Here is a just a partial list of other attackers who got their...

I confess to having followed the life of Prince Philip with some interest. After all, we both started life as Greeks, were born on islands, brought up in the Orthodox Church and ended up as very British Anglicans. In fact, trying to add anything meaningful to the mountain of material generated by the passing of Prince Philip is a daunting task. Nevertheless, I think one aspect that has not been considered adequately is his extraordinary role as a servant. In Christian circles we frequently pay lip service to the idea of being a servant. Although it’s a concept that is...

Three people are dead and two people have been left with serious injuries following a shooting that took place at a bar in Wisconsin. The incident occurred at Somers House Tavern in Kenosha, Wisconsin in the early morning hours of Sunday morning at approximately 12:42 a.m. “The suspect is described as a black male over six feet tall wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt,” Sgt. David Wright said in a media release to the press” “This appears to be a targeted and isolated incident.

I looked at my Death Clock today. That was a big mistake.Actually, I looked at one of the many websites that will use some basic information about you to calculate your average life expectancy. The good news is I have 225 million seconds to live. The bad news is that is only about seven years. So naturally, I looked for a second opinion. The next website says 20 years to go. Much better. But then I looked at a far more accurate and deadly Death Clock. This one tracks the number of abortions in America since the U.S. Supreme Court handed...

A large Stillwater protest advocating for murder charges against former Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter, visited the home of the judge of the case yesterday. Protesters headed out to Stillwater on Saturday afternoon to rally in front of Washington County Attorney Pete Orput’s home. They said Orput’s filing of second-degree manslaughter charges against Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter in the fatal shooting of Daunte Wright did not go far enough. “We watch somebody pull out a gun and recklessly fire it and hit another person and that person loses their life. But then they still get a slap...

"Exile" conjures images of banished figures like Napoleon, who languished on the island of Elba, rendered powerless by isolation. Groups of people considered troublemakers also have been exiled from their lands. Diasporas of "undesirables" like the Jews have been a constant in the history of nations whose rulers wanted to be rid of what they considered indigestible elements. Exile within one's own country by a totalitarian regime has been less noted. For such an enterprise, we may look at Vichy France, which was under the thrall and control of a fascist political system imported by Germany but facilitated by French...

I can’t stand any more cant -- the hypocritical, sanctimonious blather so common to our public and private educational institutions, the media, politicians, interest groups and corporations. Neither can more and more people -- and this week, across a variety of fields, they are hitting back at it. It’s as if the giant fog beclouding minds is beginning to disperse. Hero of the Week: Andrew GutmannI like private schools. I think that for those who can afford them, they can provide an 'out' from the poor educations available at too many government-sponsored schools. I have, however, been horrified to read...

To break a nation, one doesn’t need invading armies, nuclear missiles or even a cyber warfare attack that fries the electrical grid. An incessant marketing campaign will do. Rebranding the United States as “racist”—allegedly systemic, structural or some other impossible-to-pin-down modifier—advances a false narrative. The objective is to demoralize proud Americans. Historically, radicals have used self-justifying promotional techniques to seize power. Nazis rode their “stab-in-the-back” conspiracy explanation of Germany’s World War I defeat from obscurity to total control in just a few years. In the name of “the people,” a small Bolshevik party pursued elastically defined “class enemies”; success allowed...

“My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46). God always must turn His back on sin, even if that meant for a short time severing fellowship with His Son. The Reformer Martin Luther is said to have gained no insight at all when he secluded himself and tried to understand Jesus’ temporary alienation from the Father at Calvary. But in the secrets of divine sovereignty, the God-man was separated from God at Calvary as the Father’s wrath was poured out on the innocent Son, who had become sin for all those who believe in Him. Forsaken means...

I believe that Psalm 46 is a picture of the New Testament “promised land.” Indeed, Psalm 46 represents the divine rest referred to in Hebrews: “There remains therefore a rest for the people of God” (Hebrews 4:9). This Psalm describes this rest to God’s people. It speaks of his ever-present strength, his help in time of trouble, his peace in the midst of chaos. God’s presence is with us at all times, and his help always arrives on time. Israel rejected this rest: “Then they despised the pleasant land; they did not believe His word” (Psalm 106:24). Sadly, the church...

It’s just the flu, bro. https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3951509/posts In Mobile Alabama employers are complaining they can’t hire workers because the don’t want to work. Too much Coronavirus money harms the economy and makes people lazy, which weakens their soul. - https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3951481/posts Two Kroger grocery stores shut down in Long Beach due to low profits caused by “Hero” pay, which mandates 4 dollar per hour raises for people who worked in grocery stores during the lockdown. - In the first case above (Mobile), government creates laziness. In the second case above (Long Beach), government forces idleness upon those who don’t want to be...

Many people of a libertarian bent, such as myself, often express frustration with Republican politicians for their lack of dedication to small-government principles. But then, the alternative is Democrats, who have somehow turned into the party that believes there are no longer any limits on government spending and taxes. If you think there isn’t a whole lot of difference between how the two parties govern when in power, you might want to compare what’s going on these days in Florida versus New York. In Florida, both state legislative chambers, and the governorship, are controlled by Republicans; in New York, it’s...

A few short months ago, Governor Kristi Noem of South Dakota was a rising star in the Republican Party, due largely to her deft handling of the pandemic. Unlike so many elected officials, even on our side, she refused to sanction lockdown orders or mask mandates in her state. Then she caved to the “transgender” lobby, declining to sign a bill that banned males from participating in women’s sports—legislation she had earlier promised to back. Overnight, she went from being a likely future Vice President of the United States, and possibly even President one day, to being a future former...

We’ve always known that President Joe Biden has a way of misremembering his own record that is—shall we say—often unrelated to the truth. But Biden and his team have now developed a strategy that purposely redefines words and describes things as they demonstrably are not. And in many cases, the media help them along. The most obvious example is the invention of a new meaning for the word “bipartisan.”

Driving to Taliban-controlled territory doesn't take long. Around 30 minutes from the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif, passing large craters left by roadside bombs, we meet our host: Haji Hekmat, the Taliban's shadow mayor in Balkh district. Perfumed and in a black turban, he's a veteran member of the group, having first joined the militants in the 1990s when they ruled over the majority of the country. The Taliban have arranged a display of force for us. Lined up on either side of the street are heavily armed men, one carrying a rocket propelled grenade launcher, another an M4 assault rifle...

Thanks for joining us! Today we study a Jewish man named Stephen. He is known to be the first Christian martyr for his belief in the divinity of Jesus Christ. We initially read about Stephen in the New Testament Book of Acts 6:1-7.To paraphrase those verses: Since the number of believers in Jesus “was increasing,” His twelve Disciples needed more disciples to help feed the poor so they could “give our attention to prayer and ministry of the word.” (A wise strategic management decision based on promising long-term growth instead of running day-to-day operations.) At that time, around 31-33 A.D.,...

However, the Department of Justice (DoJ) conducted a study in 2004 that concluded that such a ban actually did little to reduce gun violence. “Should it be renewed, the ban’s effects on gun violence are likely to be small at best and perhaps too small for reliable measurement,” the study concluded. However, the bill has already earned support from several gun control organizations including the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence; Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence; Everytown; March for Our Lives; Change The Ref; Coalition to Stop Gun Violence; Center for American Progress and Violence Policy Center; Orange...
