BESA Center Perspectives Paper No. 1,805, November 8, 2020 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Large Muslim communities have formed in Western countries in recent decades. The terror attacks in France and Austria over the past few weeks again highlight the debate over the role of a multicultural, liberal, tolerant approach to separate, alienated minority communities, a small number of whose members support or perpetrate terror attacks. Recent weeks have seen a wave of violence and terror in France and elsewhere sparked by the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo’s republication of the Muhammad cartoons. These acts of terrorism represent a direct attack on Western values,...

Explanation: This cosmic close-up looks deep inside the Soul Nebula. The dark and brooding dust clouds near the top, outlined by bright ridges of glowing gas, are cataloged as IC 1871. About 25 light-years across, the telescopic field of view spans only a small part of the much larger Heart and Soul nebulae. At an estimated distance of 6,500 light-years the star-forming complex lies within the Perseus spiral arm of our Milky Way Galaxy, seen in planet Earth's skies toward the constellation Cassiopeia. An example of triggered star formation, the dense star-forming clouds in the Soul Nebula are themselves sculpted...

I would not rush Biden to visit Ukraine - Zelensky does not throw words into the wind, and on May 19, 2020, the Attorney General opened a criminal case to investigate Poroshenko and Biden's connections. Biden is still dodging his testimony, it's just dangerous for him to appear in a country where he's being investigated and suspicious. I hope that the President of Ukraine will report the progress of the investigation as soon as possible, and the GPU will give a legal assessment of Biden's pressure on Poroshenko in a telephone conversation. Be merciless, Vladimir Alexandrovich,

And the category is: People who are angling for Alex Trebek’s job. Reps for ABC News journalist George Stephanopoulos are lobbying for him to take over as host of “Jeopardy!,” according to The Wrap, citing a “highly placed” source. The website says the 59-year-old — who co-anchors “Good Morning America” on ABC — has been “actively” chasing the role. State Rep. Dawn Keefer, R-York County, and other Pennsylvania Republican lawmakers are seeking an audit of the election before the results are certified. On another day of record-smashing new COVID-19 cases in Pennsylvania, at least 19 Republican representatives met at the state Capitol, where they ignored the Wolf Administration’s public health orders. They gathered Tuesday morning in close contact, most without masks, in defiance of the rules posted in the building. The group of Republicans was holding a press conference to talk about plans for a legislative-led audit of Pennsylvania’s election results. The effort comes days after a President Donald...

PORTLAND, Ore. - The mayor of Portland, Oregon, declared victory Wednesday after a bruising campaign that sandwiched him between a tough challenger to his political left and anger from moderate voters and business owners frustrated with five months of near-nightly protests that made the city a frequent lightning rod for President Donald Trump. Mayor Ted Wheeler said he had a clear mandate with more than 90% of the vote counted and was energized by his win. If his lead holds, Wheeler would become the first mayor to win a second term in the notoriously hard-to-govern city in 20 years. The...

KABUL (Reuters) - The last thing 33-year-old Khatera saw were the three men on a motorcycle who attacked her just after she left her job at a police station in Afghanistan’s central Ghazni province, shooting at her and stabbing her with a knife in the eyes. Waking up in hospital, everything was dark. “I asked the doctors, why I can’t see anything? They told me that my eyes are still bandaged because of the wounds. But at that moment, I knew my eyes had been taken from me,” she said. She and local authorities blame the attack on Taliban militants...

With Barack Obama’s latest book hitting shelves Nov. 17, there’s buzz in politics — and publishing — that President Trump is being courted for a new tome on his time in the White House. But insiders have differing views about how rich a deal Trump could command. One source familiar with the President told Page Six on Tuesday: “Trump is being bombarded with book and TV deals that could be worth a staggering $100 million.” Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama inked a reported $65 million deal with Crown in 2017. The source said Trump was also simultaneously being...
