Immigrants who settled in the U.S. say recent political shifts here are starting to remind them of what they left behind One of the most memorable moments from the Republican National Convention came when Cuban-born Maximo Alvarez cautioned Americans against creeping socialism. “I’ve seen movements like this before,” he warned last month. The Florida businessman is hardly alone among those who fled socialist countries. On social media and in interviews with Fox News, other immigrants who settled in the U.S. say that recent political shifts here – including class warfare, riots and language policing, not to mention calls for expansive...

The N.C. Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday that the state legislature had the authority in 2018 to place two Constitutional amendments on the ballot, one capping income tax and the other calling for voter ID. However, the ruling doesn’t mean that people will have to show a photo ID when they vote this year. There are two other ongoing lawsuits where judges have found North Carolina’s voter ID law appears to be unconstitutional, one in state court and one in federal court. As long as those other lawsuits and legal rulings continue to block voter ID from going into place,...

Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Democratic vice presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris returned to California on Tuesday as wildfires burn across her home state and much of the Western United States. Harris, D-Calif., made her first trip to California since being nominated as former Vice President Joe Biden's running mate. She and California Gov. Gavin Newsom met with emergency officials as wildfires have burned more than 3.2 million acres in the state. "Sadly, these wildfires and the devastation they cause are utterly predictable," she said. Harris joined Newsom and the governors of Oregon and Washington, which have also been hit hard...

Britons could face an even tougher lockdown within two weeks unless the Rule of Six brings down coronavirus cases, it was claimed today. Ministers and government officials insist they are ready to take more draconian steps to stop the spread, despite a wave of criticism. Options on the table could range from curfews to closing pubs - although there is a determination that schools will stay open. 'Lockdown is the only thing that we know works, to be frank,' one government science adviser told ITV.

Japanese lawmakers have elected Suga Yoshihide as the next Prime Minister. Here's a look at the life of the country's new leader. Nearly every day for the past eight years, Suga Yoshihide has taken questions from reporters. Especially in times when the government faced tough criticism -- from allegations of corruption to unpopular policy decisions -- the top spokesperson seemed unflappable. Then, he took this step into the glare of the public eye. Suga unveiled Japan's new era name: Reiwa. It's an uncommon honor, which made millions look at the Prime Minister's trusted aide and adviser in a new light....

If you could go back to 1950, would you do it? There would be no Internet, no cellphones and you would only be able to watch television in black and white. But even though they lacked many of our modern conveniences, people genuinely seemed to be much happier back then. Families actually ate dinner together, neighbors knew and cared about one another, and being an “American” truly meant something. Today, we like to think that we are so much more “advanced” than they were back then, but the truth is that our society is in the process of falling apart...

The jet, built as part of the Air Force's Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program, was first disclosed to Defense News on Monday. Air Force acquisition head Will Roper told the outlet that the service could now move the jet into production "pretty fast."

Famed attorney and Harvard Law School professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz filed a defamation suit against CNN on Tuesday seeking $300 million for what he called a "willful, deliberate, malicious effort to destroy my credibility." Dershowitz told Fox News that CNN selectively edited a clip of his remarks from the Senate floor during President Trump's impeachment trial where he broke down the illegalities surrounding a "quid pro quo" as a member of the president's defense team. The Constitutional scholar alleges in the lawsuit that the news outlet propagated a “sea of lies” by re-airing only part of his quote, which he...

The city manager of a Los Angeles-area suburb was put on paid administrative leave Tuesday after his social media post on the ambush shooting of two sheriffs' deputies over the weekend was heavily criticized. Jose Ometeotl was put on leave pending an internal investigation, Lynwood City Councilman Salvador Alatorre told Fox News following the council's closed session meeting Tuesday night. Alatorre put forth the motion to discipline or dismiss Ometeotl following his personal Instagram post that read "chickens come home to roost" after two deputies were shot multiple times while sitting in their patrol vehicle Saturday in the nearby city...

ROCK HILL, S.C. (WBTV) - A change could be coming to the Rock Hill area. City council will take a vote on the mask mandate that has been in place since July. This vote would make Rock Hill’s mask mandate indefinite until council decides to repeal it. The mandate would have expired on September 7 if council had not voted to extend it until mid-October. Now, council members are trying to keep the mandate without having to vote every 60 days. This is the second reading for this emergency ordinance, so if it passes tonight, it will be enacted. Only...

Dr. Anthony Fauci is an adviser to President Donald Trump and something of an American folk hero for his steady, calm leadership during the pandemic crisis. At least one poll shows that Americans trust Fauci more than Trump on the coronavirus pandemic—and few scientists are portrayed on TV by Brad Pitt. But just last year, the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the organization led by Dr. Fauci, funded scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology and other institutions for work on gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses. In 2019, with the backing of NIAID, the National Institutes of Health...

Sometime early in August, the news of a certain Chinese virologist by the name of Dr. Li-Meng Yan broke out after she claimed that the whole coronavirus was actually derived from the known Zhoushan bat virus. In a certain live stream interview with the known YouTube channel called G-Translator on August 5, Dr. Yan Li-Meng alleged that the whole coronavirus actually came from the People’s Liberation Army or PLA’s very own lab. Dr. Yan then, later on, fled her own home country in fear for her safety. The known Chinese National Health Commission together with the University of Hong Kong...

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The unusually-early storm that is hitting New Mexico has been causing a lot of damage – there's power outages, flooding, downed trees, and slick roads across the state. The wind in the metro peaked Tuesday evening at over 70 mph. The intersection at 5th Street and Lomas was closed Wednesday because roof panels were blown off the district courthouse. PNM officials also said some of their power line poles just snapped or were lifted from their foundation altogether. But that's not all – a viral video shows a porta-potty on the move down Central near Tramway. Watch...

NEW YORK — The World Series will be played entirely at the Texas Rangers’ new ballpark in Arlington, Texas, as part of a bubble agreement between Major League Baseball and the players’ association, the first time the sport’s championship will be played entirely at one site since 1944. As part of an agreement finalized Tuesday, the Division Series, League Championship Series and World Series will be part of a bubble designed to minimize exposure to the coronavirus, which decimated the regular season and limited it to a 60-game schedule for each club. The best-of-three first round of the postseason —...
