Ancient weapons discovered on a building site will go on display at the Museum of London Docklands. The group of 453 artefacts found in Havering, east London, is the third largest ever discovered in the UK... The find, which dates from between 800BC and 900BC, was officially declared treasure by a coroner earlier this year. The discovery, dubbed the Havering Hoard, was uncovered last September, and will form the centrepiece of a major exhibition from April. Archaeologists believed the manner in which the weapons had been so carefully buried in groups close together suggested the site could have been a...

The House’s resolution should have been the easiest for Republicans to go along with. None of them did. So this is how the impeachment of President Donald Trump is going to go. The House this morning cast its first vote in a process that could lead to just the third Senate impeachment trial of a president in U.S. history. When Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced plans for the vote earlier this week, there was at least some promise of drama: Which House Democrats would defect? How many Republicans might defy Trump to back a formal impeachment inquiry that a few of...

Last week found Republicans in Congress complaining loud and long that the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, along with the House Oversight and Foreign Affairs committees, all bipartisan and under the leadership of Rep. Adam Schiff, were violating the rules of the House of Representatives by interviewing witnesses about impeachment behind closed doors. They derided Schiff's hearings as a "secret impeachment." President Trump called the hearings a hoax. When some pointed out that the initial round of government interviews of witnesses is always conducted behind closed doors to facilitate candor, Senate Republicans supported the president and condemned the House...

Professional provocateur (and former Trump-whisperer turned critic) Ann Coulter just tried, and failed miserably, to correct Twitter user “Catturd2,” in a manner that pretty much defines the phrase “dunks on self” that is so popular with the kids these days. It seems Catturd2 took the position that Rep. Tulsi Gabbard just voted in favor of the Congressional impeachment rules that just passed in the House of Representatives. Catturd 2 wrote “For all you foolish Tulsi Gabbard fans… She just voted for the illegal impeachment coup.” Catturd2’s comments reveal much about his or her position on the Democratic-led impeachment inquiry, but...

In Iraq, demonstrators are being shot dead in the streets. In Lebanon, protesters have paralysed the country and seem set to bring down the government of Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri. In recent weeks the Egyptian security forces crushed attempts to protest against the police state of President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi... A rough approximation is that 60% of the region's population is under the age of 30. A young population can be a great asset to a country. But only if the economy, the educational system and the institutions of the state are functioning well enough to accommodate their needs, and...

Republican senators are warning President Donald Trump that he cannot legally appoint immigration hard-liner Ken Cuccinelli to lead the Department of Homeland Security. The White House and DHS lawyers, however, are continuing to work on a controversial end run around a federal law that prohibits Cuccinelli from serving as an acting secretary. It would likely face an immediate court challenge as well as the ire of members of his own party. “The White House would be well advised to consult with the Senate and senators before they take any decisive action that might be embarrassing to Mr. Cuccinelli or to...

Woodland’s Z Specialty Food seeks to double the footprint of its honey warehouse and create a community gathering spot The Zeldner family legacy is rooted in yellow star thistle. The noxious weed, an invasive species native to the Mediterranean region of southern Europe and northern Africa, covers an estimated 14 million acres in California. It grows densely and depletes soil moisture. It can cause a fatal nervous disorder in horses who graze on it. The spines that extend from the flower head, giving the plant its name, are the bane of hikers and grazing animals alike. For honeybees, however, the...

'I was a little drunk and I was with Orlando Bloom who I think was equally, if not slightly less drunk than I was. And we were stood at the bar and Ivanka was also at the bar, and I can't, I can't 100 percent remember it,' Corden confessed to Arnold Schwarzenegger on Wednesday's episode of the Late, Late Show. Silicon Valley investors back his bill, which also allows companies to annually pay 60,000 of India’s contract workers — plus 60,000 family members — with government-provided green cards after they take jobs from American graduates. The curriculum also teaches about numerous sexual orientations; children are told that their...

Great Orme copper found in Bronze Age artefacts "stretching from Brittany to the Baltic"North Wales was Britain's main source of copper for about 200 years during the Bronze Age, new research has found. Historians once thought the Orme's copper mine - now a museum - had been a small-scale operation. Experts now believe there was a bonanza from 1600-1400 BC, with artefacts found in Sweden, France and Germany. The research, by scientists from the University...
