Good news.
I guess.
Although Stop & Shop seems to be toast here in NH. They could not compete against Market Basket.
About ten years ago they built a brand new store in Milford, NH. Right across the street from Shaws. They lasted a year or two and closed. I went in there once and hated the fact that they wanted everyone to self check out.
I never went there again.
Why do so many FReepers hate self-checkout?
The US is long past needing unions.
I can’t speak for all Freepers but the primary reason I hate self-checkout is machines have no common sense. Many self-checkout machines demand that I either purchase a bag or bring my own even if I have just one item. Do one thing wrong and you have to be checked out by a human cashier anyway.
Other reasons include:
a) Can’t buy booze at self-checkout for obvious reasons.
b) I’ve gotten to know the cashiers at my local grocery store and enjoy a friendly chat with them.
