Union auto workers voted, by a large majority, to authorize strikes while the United Auto Workers (UAW) union negotiates contracts with General Motors, Ford Motor Company, and Fiat Chrysler. UAW members voted about 96 percent to allow union workers to strike while UAW leaders negotiate contracts with GM, Ford, and Chrysler — a vote that merely authorizes strikes and does not indicate that strikes will be held. UAW President Gary Jones said in a statement:

David Simon, a former journalist for The Baltimore Sun and executive producer of HBO's The Wire (2002-2008), used Twitter to express his desire that God use Hurricane Dorian to destroy Mar-a-Lago, a National Historic Landmark sometimes used for presidential meetings that is owned by President Donald Trump, who refers to it as the "Winter White House." "After the last three years, the work of a just and righteous God cannot be considered credible evidence of His goodness unless He picks all of Mar-a-lago up by the roots, sails it across half of Florida and heaves it on top of Doral...

[Catholic Caucus] New Rome Pastoral Guidelines Raise Eyebrows Vicar general of Rome establishes guidelines to build the 'Church of the future' ROME (ChurchMilitant.com) - Recently, vicar general of his holiness for the diocese of Rome, Cdl. Angelo De Donatis, was the subject of much controversy in Italian Catholic circles for his choice of unprecedentedly unconventional language to address the Roman clergy. A couple of letters delivered to Roman parishes in July 2019 were unusually informal, as they also contained specifications that could be read as contrary to what the Church teaches about cardinal virtues. The letters aimed to offer guidelines for the formation of the new pastoral teams for the...

When legislatures create laws that call for actions to be taken that contradict constitutional law, they exceed the boundaries of their delegated powers, contradict the law of the land, and set up conditions leading to violation of civil rights. Executives who sign those pieces of legislation into law also act corruptly and in violation of constitutional law. Red flag laws, for example, which permit circumvention of due process, are unconstitutional. Yet judges use them as a basis for issuing orders to confiscate firearms. When they do so, they are violating constitutional law. Judicial orders that call for confiscation of firearms...

It was apparently a slip of the paw that cost a man from North Carolina $70 after his dog ended up ordering pay-per-view porn on cable TV. Thomas Barnes' dog, a bichon frise called Marino, jumped on the bed of his owner and in doing so stepped on the remote control inadvertently ordering the Hustler Channel. Upon seeing the risque images on his screen, Barnes claims he called cable company DirectTV within minutes to explain what had happened and to cancel the x-rated service.

‘The only thing worse than a liar is a liar that’s also a hypocrite,’ cautioned the great American playwright Tennessee Williams. He might have been talking about Prince Harry after the sixth in line to the British throne’s latest ridiculous display of two-faced, disingenuous planet-saving drivel. It’s almost beyond parody that ‘every footprint counts’ Harry would respond to all the negative press surrounding his recent orgy of private jet use by flying to Holland to lecture us all yet again about how to protect the environment. Yet there he was, back at his favorite preaching pulpit, banging on about the...

U.S. exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG), negligible just three years ago, now amount to 10% of the global market and at 22 million tonnes so far this year are equal to the total volumes pumped out in 2018, Refinitiv data showed. The data, comprised of tracked individual journeys made by LNG tankers from supply source to destination, also showed LNG production hit an all-time high last month of 31 million tonnes. As global volumes grow, Qatar, for years the world’s largest LNG supplier, lost market share to Australia, which exported more LNG than any other country in the past...

Rep. Bill Flores (R-Texas) on Wednesday announced he will not seek reelection to a sixth term in Congress, adding to the rush of Texas Republican lawmakers heading for the exit. Flores, the first Republican to represent the Waco area since Reconstruction, won his seat in the Tea Party wave of 2010. He beat then-Rep. Chet Edwards (D) by a wider margin than any other challenger who ousted a sitting Democrat that year. He said in a statement he intended to honor a term-limit pledge he made when he first ran for office. “After much prayer over the past few days...

A transgender woman from El Salvador, she moved to Washington, D.C., in the late 1980s to escape the country's civil war. So she sits me down. We have a nice conversation. She tells me, “Oh, the sketches are great.” I go, “Oh, fantastic. Well, then… well, then, why am I here?” She said, “Because, David, there’s no way… that you can ever say the word… “f*ggot” on our network. I didn’t know I did anything wrong. I didn’t try to defend myself. I said, “All right. F*** it, I’ll take it out. Have a good afternoon.” And as I was leaving, it occurred to me. “Hey. Hey, Renée, quick question. It’s just a question. Seriously, I wanna know. Like, wh-why is...

Just as the state forces Battery cars onto Colorado consumers, emerging evidence consistently show the so-called “zero-emission vehicles” pollute more than internal combustion vehicles. The latest evidence comes in a report by the German-based IFO Institute for Economic Research, released about the same time Colorado air commissioners voted 8-1 to adopt California’s “Zero Emission Vehicle” (ZEV) standards. The new rule requires at least 5% of any automotive company’s vehicles for sale in Colorado run on electricity. ... We all want clean air. Hickenlooper and Polis probably believe battery cars advance the goal. No credible evidence suggests they do any such...

It is now clearer than ever that the whole Trump-Russia collusion argument, as many of us have been loudly proclaiming since it began, is a monstrous hoax, “a conspiracy so immense”—to use Senator Joseph R. McCarthy’s infamous words in his attack upon General George C. Marshall in 1951—that it has been hard for the public to take it on board. Of course, the assimilation of what has happened has been made more complicated by the extremely agitated political ambiance of the Trump era, which was to a large extent inevitable given the mandate this president received to make profound public...
