The tension between President Donald Trump's bellicose rhetoric and his non-interventionist foreign policy instincts was on full display Thursday afternoon as he huddled in the Situation Room. Lawmakers in the room watched as the weight of his duties as commander-in-chief bore down on him, lives hanging in the balance. Trump did not tip his hand on which way he was leaning, focusing instead on "drilling down" on the differing perspectives and arguments leveled by the assembled lawmakers, Senate Foreign Relations Chairman James Risch said. But it was clear, the Idaho Republican said, that Trump is a president who "doesn't want...

I’ve been thinking about Leftists and their behavior. The longer I live, the more bizarre society becomes as a consequence of a leftist activism. I realized listening to Jordan Peterson explaining hierarchies that fundamentally Leftists despise hierarchies and that is somewhat what Peterson asserts. Then it came to me that what Leftists really want is to be at the top of all hierarchies. They resent anyone having any more power, wealth, or ability than themselves. It all comes down to jealousy. So with jealousy as a motivator, Leftists seek the either the domination or destruction of those within the hierarchy....

Researchers at Indiana University School of Medicine have discovered how a dangerous parasite maintains a steady supply of nutrients while replicating inside of its host cell: it calls for delivery. Toxoplasma gondii is a single-celled parasite capable of infecting any animal, including humans. Up to one-third of infections in people happen through contact with cat waste or contaminated food or water. Although the parasite only causes acute disease in immune compromised persons, the infection is permanent and has been associated with neurological diseases such as schizophrenia and rage disorder. The parasite can invade virtually all types of cells in the...

“God’s Green New Deal: From Slaves to Sons” (Galatians 3:23 – 4:7) Earlier this year a certain congressperson from New York proposed what she called a “Green New Deal.” She was picking up on the term “New Deal,” thus indicating a massive expansion of government programs. And she combined it with the word “Green,” because she thought this new deal would help the environment. Well, in one sense, it would have been a green new deal, because it would have taken a lot of green, as in trillions and trillions of tax dollars. Well, her Green New Deal came up...

  • High on iron? It stops anaemia but has a downside

A global study looking at the role that iron plays in 900 diseases has uncovered the impact of both low and high iron levels—and the news is mixed. People with high iron levels are not only protected against anaemia but are also less likely to have high cholesterol, according to an international study led by Imperial College London, the University of South Australia (UniSA) and University of Ioannina. What is less known is the impact of excess iron where the body stores too much iron, which can lead to liver disease, heart problems and diabetes in extreme cases. Around 25...

A low-carb diet may have benefits for people at risk of developing type 2 diabetes even if they don't lose any weight, a new study suggests. Researchers found that more than half of study participants no longer met the criteria for metabolic syndrome immediately following a four-week low-carb diet. About a third of American adults have the syndrome, according to the American Heart Association. After eating a low-carb diet, more than half the participants saw their metabolic syndrome reversed even though they were fed diets that intentionally contained enough calories to keep their weight stable. After eating the low-carb diet,...

The mayor of San Francisco, London Breed, proudly announced Monday that she has instructed city sanitation workers to install a giant toilet handle in order to flush the city of feces and urine periodically. Rather than trying to keep up with the rapid accumulation of human waste in city streets, San Francisco Public Works employees will simply pull the giant toilet handle from time to time, causing billions of gallons of water to rush down alleys, sidewalks, and roads to keep things clean. Small urinal cakes are also being installed along city sidewalks. Breed assured concerned residents that this is...

Earth's nearest neighbours have turned into uninhabitable hellholes. Understanding their transformation will teach us which rocky exoplanets might be fit for life CLOSE to the sun lie a pair of sizzling coals. You could be forgiven for thinking these strange worlds were two circles of hell: Mercury, a black and blasted plain, and Venus, a sweltering world beset by rain of pure acid. But for all the terror of their outward appearance, their insides are remarkably familiar. Along with Earth and Mars, they form the solar system’s only rocky planets, a stark contrast to the bloated gas giants that make...

President Donald Trump released a hilarious video on his Twitter account on Friday that essentially declared himself to be president forever, in what is a giant troll aimed at the media and the Democratic Party. The video features a cover from TIME Magazine that shows Trump campaign yard signs lasting well beyond 2020. The video then alters the cover to show the campaign campaign yard signs extending thousands of years into the future while “In the Hall of the Mountain King” from Peer Gynt, by the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg plays in the background. President Trump decided Saturday to postpone Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids and mass deportations across the country, set to begin Sunday, to give Democrats more time to reach a bipartisan agreement about the immigration crisis at the southern border. The change of heart came after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif, called Trump on Friday, asking him to call off the raids, a source familiar with the situation told Fox News. Acting ICE Director Mark Morgan said on "Justice with Judge Jeanine" on Fox News on Saturday that the postponement will "give Congress another chance on a bipartisan method to...

More than a year has passed since Stephon Clark’s death. The Clark family honored his memory by visiting the nearly-complete mural of him at Sacramento’s Wide Open Walls Festival exhibit in Meadowview on Thursday. Clark’s portrait now covers a wall three stories high and a block wide on Improv Alley, between Seventh and Eighth streets.

For many buyers whose top priority is a car that won’t break down, the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study is gospel. J.D. Power just released the results of its 2019 Initial Quality Study, and the Korean trio of Genesis, Kia, and Hyundai took the top three spots. Luxury brand Genesis ranked highest, followed by sibling brands Kia and Hyundai. It’s a big win for Genesis which, as a relative newcomer to the luxury segment, needs to build credibility with buyers. The high scores achieved by Kia and Hyundai show that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to...

[Catholic Caucus] Bishop Trautman Blamed Victim of Abuse Bishop to victim: 'You never should have put yourself in that position' BUFFALO, N.Y. (ChurchMilitant.com) - Bishop Donald Trautman admits he blamed an abuse victim who was molested by a priest, and stands by his statement. "You should have never put yourself in that position," then-Msgr. Trautman, vicar general in the diocese of Buffalo, New York in the 1980s, reportedly told an unnamed teen victim of Fr. Michael Freeman. In another case, Freeman also allegedly molested James Bottlinger, who turned down a $650,000 offer from the diocese — the largest single payout through its victims compensation...

In an interview with GirlBoss Radio released Wednesday, longshot 2020 White House candidate Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) declared twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was “the most qualified, capable person ever to run for president.” A transcript is as follows: NEHA GANDHI: You worked on Hillary Clinton’s senate campaign, right? SEN. KIRSTEN GILLIBRAND: I did. GANDHI: She’s been a supporter of yours. What are the things that you’ve learned from here? Both good and bad. What are the things that you emulate and the things that you maybe say that didn’t work for her from her campaign, particularly as your bid...
