The D.C. statehood effort got new life Thursday, when longtime skeptic House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer threw his support behind the idea and fellow Democrats pledged hearings to advance the issue. Rep. Elijah E. Cummings of Maryland, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Committee, said he has scheduled a hearing for July 24, marking the first time in more than a quarter century that the topic has gotten that far. “This is a monumental step forward for equality and self-government for D.C.,” said D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, the city’s nonvoting representative in Congress. Mrs. Norton, Mayor Muriel...

Is impeachment causing the Dem party to crack up along racial lines? On Joy Reid's MSNBC show this morning, regular guest Elie Mystal blamed "white people in the middle" for the failure of the Dem congressional leadership to initiate impeachment proceedings against President Trump. Mystal disparagingly stereotyped the white Dem voters he had in mind as "three truck drivers . . . in a diner." In contrast, claimed Mystal, "the black and brown community is overwhelmingly in favor of impeachment." Concluded Mystal: "Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats at some point have to acknowledge their base." Can you imagine if someone...

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told California Democrats that Congress would continue aggressive investigations into President Trump and the Trump administration, stopping short of calling for the beginning of an impeachment inquiry. Addressing the California Democratic Party's annual convention in her home district, Pelosi cited former special counsel Robert Mueller's report into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. "In his report, special counsel Mueller warned us in the starkest terms that there was an attack on our election and an attack on our democracy," Pelosi said. "Why won't the president defend us from this attack?" "What is the president covering...

Treason is in season if you’re a former Obama administration official, as they continue to test the boundaries of the Trump administration — and U.S. law — by continuing to remain in contact with arch-nemesis Iran.As our readers are aware, former Secretary of State John Kerry was busted — again — earlier this month for continuing his contacts with the terrorist-sponsoring Iranian regime in a bid, ostensibly, to ‘save’ the nuclear deal he and Obama negotiated. At the time, POTUS Donald Trump and some Republican lawmakers called on Kerry to be investigated (and charged) under the 18th-century Logan Act:Last year Kerry, Obama’s second...

Mere hours after I submitted my last column arguing that Robert Mueller must be called to testify, Rachel Maddow took to the air to make the exact counter-case that I outlined and refuted in my column. No surprises there. We predicted it.The past few days of news coverage have confirmed that the corporate leftist media and the Democrats are hellbent on uncritically warping every fact and statement to support their effort to forcibly remove a democratically elected president and to demonize anyone who may stand in their way. Reality be damned. In a civil society, citizens may be entitled to their opinions but not to their own...

Former Vice President Joe Biden has accumulated a lead in the 2020 Democrat polls sufficient enough to officially qualify for frontrunner status. This is pretty impressive when you consider the amount of baggage he had to drag along in order to get himself there.

The recent elections brought bad news for Christians, and you probably heard about that. But there’s some wonderful news for the Christians of India as well. Prepare to be encouraged. First, however, let’s look at the bad news. The BJP, the current ruling party in India, led by Prime Minister Modi, won the national elections handily. This is bad news for millions of Christians in India. The BJP is not just a Hindu party. It is a militantly Hindu party. It wants India to be a Hindu nation, meaning, exclusively Hindu. Prime Minister Modi has even spoken of his desire...

I want to focus on one word, and one word only. That word is fairness. Not gender. Not transgender. Not activism. Not rights. Not perception. Simply fairness. That’s the issue here, and that’s where we need to keep our focus. The question is not why a man identifies as a woman (or vice versa). The question is this: Is it fair for a biological male to compete against biological females? According to a story posted on Trib Live, “A transgender woman [CeCe, formerly Craig, Telfer] who competed as a man as recently as last year won an NCAA women’s track...

Cops are people who sometimes have to take on thankless dirty jobs, because someone has to take out the trash, but now that they're coming down with typhus-like illnesses, based on the multiplication of the homeless population and the accompanying rats, one wonders how fair this is — or, more to the point, if maybe leftists making policy wanted it this way. According to ABC News: At least one officer with the Los Angeles Police Department has contracted the bacteria that causes typhoid fever, Salmonella typhi, and another one is showing typhus-like symptoms, the police department announced on Thursday. The officer who had...
