A woman who pretended to have cancer in order to get the state to pay for her late-term abortion has been charged. Chalice Renee Zeitner, 29, was arrested on Friday in Columbia County, Georgia, where she was living under a false name. Prosecutors allege Zeitner told her Arizona obstetrician in March 2010 that she had cancer and that her pregnancy put her life in further danger - and even produced fake documents. It remains unclear if Zeitner has a lawyer yet and when she could be extradited to Phoenix. The Arizona attorney general's office said Zeitner is accused of felony...

WASHINGTON - Barack Obama's presidency, and the Democrats' chances of holding the White House in 2016, are fading faster than Hillary Clinton's e-mails. The long-suffering, underperforming Obama economy still shows signs of weakness. The majority of his party is deserting him in droves in Congress on his trade deal, and threatening to filibuster it. And Obamacare, facing financial troubles in its state marketplaces, may be shot down soon by the U.S. Supreme Court. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported last week that the economy added 223,000 jobs in April, but there is less here than meets the eye. The...

I just thought this was beautiful and thought it would do us good to remember what a good man Reagan was.

Foreign foes see U.S. presidential election years as opportunities to test and bedevil -- which is a good reason to suspect 2016 will present the American electorate with a violent international challenge. Though this column sketches two representative scenarios, they are not predictions. No one can predict a specific crisis will occur at a specific time. However, climbing a ladder usually entertains more risk than sitting in a chair; a rickety altitude adds gravitational uncertainty. A presidential election year is a moment of extended political uncertainty. Uncertainty, if exploited, may become a psychological vulnerability. North Vietnam's 1968 Tet Offensive is...

I do my best to avoid giving Huffington Post traffic, even when it’s linked here at Hot Air. There are a few reasons, a lot of it having to do with not wanting to underwrite Arianna Huffington’s politics. But one thing I really, really disagree with is HuffPo’s business model, which is to serve as an SEO — “search engine optimized” — pass-through to original content elsewhere on the Internet. Ed wrote a great post explaining the HuffPo/content/traffic tension after AOL acquired the site, and if you’re unfamiliar with how SEO works, check this out. In short, some of the...

Ask youth and Democrats in America what they think of socialism and a growing number will answer in the positive, pointing to Norway, Sweden and self-declared socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders as their examples, a new survey showed. YouGov conducted a survey of how Americans these days are viewing socialism, and the perception has greatly changed since Moscow Red Square military-parade days. In general, 52 percent of Americans say they have a favorable view of capitalism and 26 percent, a favorable perception of socialism. But those numbers change dramatically with the younger set. For those in the under-30 range, “36 percent...

The Royal Canadian Air Force is saddened to learn of the death of Arthur Francis (“Art”) Sherwin, former honorary colonel of 426 Transport Training Squadron, which is located at 8 Wing Trenton, Ontario. “Arthur was a pleasant and caring gentleman, who embraced his role as honorary colonel of 426 Squadron,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Ryan Deming, 426 “Thunderbird” Squadron’s commanding officer. “He took every opportunity to engage and speak with squadron members, epitomizing the values and ethos of the RCAF. “His life experience, particularly during the Second World War, was inspiring to the Thunderbird family. Father Thomas Higgins was watching television in the rectory of Holy Innocents parish in Philadelphia, where he is pastor, when he heard sirens. A few blocks away, Sister Linda Lukiewski, SSJ, and Sister Julie Fertsch, SSJ, were watching television and also heard sirens. "In the inner city you're always hearing sirens, but when you hear 10, 20, 30, you know there's something going on," said Father Higgins Wednesday morning. "When I turned the news on and saw the train, and it's this close," he said of the Amtrak derailment, which took place Tuesday evening only a couple of miles from...

Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., today blasted the secrecy shrouding the ongoing Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations. “They said, well, it’s very transparent. Go down and look at it,” said Boxer on the floor of the Senate. “Let me tell you what you have to do to read this agreement. Follow this: you can only take a few of your staffers who happen to have a security clearance — because, God knows why, this is secure, this is classified. It has nothing to do with defense. It has nothing to do with going after ISIS.” Boxer, who has served in the House and...

When Gov. Rick Snyder recently proposed creating a new school district organization to serve Detroit schoolchildren, he cited a “lack of educational success” and “failing academics” and pointed out that Detroit is the “nation’s lowest performing urban school area.” However, the Detroit Public School district's most recent evaluations of its own teachers paint a picture of success in 2013-14. The district gave 8 out of 10 teachers the highest evaluation possible — “highly effective.” Full email response from DPS Spokeswoman Jennifer Mrozowski. Starting with the 2011-12 academic year, school districts have been required by state law to report on their...

Christians in Iraq are “on the edge of a terrible catastrophe,” an Iraqi nun said in May 13 testimony before the foreign-affairs committee of the US House of Representatives. Sister Diana Momeka, a Dominican sister who was forced to flee from Mosul, testified in Washington pleaded for help for Iraqi Christians, saying that persecution by the Islamic State has been more brutal than any suffering endured by the country’s Christians in over 1300 years. She also testified that the help furnished by Iraqi government officials for Christian refugees has been “at best modest and slow.” The Dominican sister told...

Cruz’s sudden trust of President Obama seems contrary to his nature. Has Cruz read the TPP? Even if he has, it seems a gamble to trust the Obama administration. Is there really any harm in having congress debate the agreement? If it is as good as its proponents say, it would have no trouble passing. Considering that the White House has not proven to be a friend of free markets, it would be wise to scrutinize any agreement this president supports.

Do you want actual racial equality? Do you desire actual racial harmony? I have news for you: you’re in the minority. It seems even the most ardent champions fighting against racism are often avowed racists. Case in point: Dr. Saida Grundy, a black professor set to start teaching at Boston University on July 1. She decided it was a good idea to get on Twitter and pontificate in a most scholarly fashion concerning the obstacles that need to be destroyed in order to achieve racial equality. Unfortunately, one of those obstacles is apparently the entire white male population. Below are...

A national fair housing organization has filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, charging that Fannie Mae is not properly caring for and marketing foreclosed homes it owns in nonwhite communities. The National Fair Housing Alliance alleges Fannie Mae violated the federal Fair Housing Act in nonwhite, working-class communities in the Chicago area as well as in 33 other metropolitan areas. Nineteen fair housing groups in various cities, including three in the Chicago area, joined the alliance in the complaint against Fannie Mae. "Fannie has more foreclosures in the United States than anybody else," said...

Canada’s largest union of elementary teachers is hosting an event next week aimed at training teachers on how to push homosexuality in kindergarten through grade 8 by creating Gay-Straight-Alliance (GSAs) clubs in schools. “Attend this symposium to find out what others are doing and how you might begin or continue your own school’s GSA journey,” states the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) in its brochure about the May 22-23 event. Teachers attending the event will learn about “LGBTQ community resources and how to use them” in the classroom as well as how to “raise awareness” among children from the...

MY BUCKET LIST Then I went way back into my memory and brought back stuff I hadn't thought about in years.. That was fun, my older memories are fresher than the new stuff, like did I just take the pill I have to take at..what was the time I was..?? Now, I have plenty of new stories that I recall, that I can share with my kids and grandkids, because it's like bedtime stories, because they still go to sleep shortly after I start them, the little darlings.. Getting back to my BUCKET LIST, I do remember having a special...

And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered,...

PPP's national Republican poll for May continues to find Scott Walker leading the field, but it's tightly clustered and his support has actually dropped two consecutive surveys now. Walker's at 18% to 13% for Marco Rubio, 12% each for Ben Carson and Mike Huckabee, 11% for Jeb Bush, 10% for Ted Cruz, 9% for Rand Paul, 5% for Chris Christie, and 2% for Rick Perry. This is the third national poll in a row where we've found Walker ahead but he was at 25% in late February and declined to 20% and now 18% on the two subsequent surveys. Two...
