..... from the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal….” Republican presidents talk about freedom. Democratic presidents talk about equality. Actually, Democratic presidents do more than talk about it. The Vanderbilt political scientist Larry Bartels looked at income growth for families at various income percentiles under Democratic and Republican presidencies. His calculations covered the years 1948 to 2005. The graphic artist Catherine Mulbrandon of VisualizingEconomics.com took Bartels’ data and turned it into a chart that illustrates very dramatically why, if you care at all about income inequality, you should vote Democratic....

Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s office confirmed that she will be introducing in the Senate Thursday a new version of the so-called assault weapon ban. A spokesman said the full text will be released at a press conference on Thursday. The California Democrat intends to expand on the ban that expired in 2004, by including handguns and shotguns, in addition to rifles. She would decrease from two to one the number of cosmetic features on a gun to have it be considered an “assault weapon.” This means that if a gun has just one item like a pistol grip or bayonet lug,...

Barack Obama and Illinois Governor Patrick Quinn, along with the likes of New York’s Governor Cuomo have awakened a sleeping giant. Attitudes about guns are changing throughout America, and they are changing quickly. For example, on the national scale, attitudes about guns rights and gun ownership are very positive overall. And Americans who were ambivalent about guns two months ago are embracing gun ownership and the benefits of firearm ownership enthusiastically. Even the NRA, long-castigated by the gun control advocates as the boogieman in firearm civil rights, has a far more positive appeal to everyday Americans than does the...

A centerpiece of President Obama's second inaugural address was a call for greater economic equality, with the president saying that "our country cannot succeed when a shrinking few do very well and a growing many barely make it." But that's precisely what's happened over the past four years, as Obama's economic policies left the majority of Americans falling behind while the wealthy few got further ahead. Evidence of this is everywhere you look.

Why we can't give up our guns. This brings back memories of the Gore recount in Florida where the vote counters tried to do their business behind closed doors and the patriots that put a stop to it.

Explanation: Large spiral galaxy NGC 4945 is seen edge-on near the center of this cosmic galaxy portrait. In fact, NGC 4945 is almost the size of our own Milky Way Galaxy. Its own dusty disk, young blue star clusters, and pink star forming regions standout in the sharp, colorful telescopic image. About 13 million light-years distant toward the expansive southern constellation Centaurus, NGC 4945 is only about six times farther away than Andromeda, the nearest large spiral galaxy to the Milky Way. Though the galaxy's central region is largely hidden from view for optical telescopes, X-ray and infrared observations indicate...

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- There's a good news update on a home ransacked and spray painted by a pair of teen burglars in northwest Houston. While the burglars are now in custody, community members and Marines stepped in to help the homeowner -- a 93-year-old World War II veteran. The Marines quickly marched into the defaced home of WWII veteran Elbert Wood, eager to help. "It's important that he knows we're here for him and that we're always his brothers," Major Roberto Rodriguez said. The presence of these local Marines is just one example of the outpouring of support for Wood...

Recent media coverage of a report from the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point raised concerns among activists who consider themselves the typical, God-fearing American “right.” The report by West Point professor Arie Perliger, Challengers from the Sidelines – Understanding America’s Violent Far-Right, includes some descriptions of the “far right” that many conservatives have found shocking. Angela West, wife of former congressman and new PJ Media spokesman Allen West, posted a scathing response on her Facebook page, which included a photo montage. “Pigs certainly now fly and birds are doing the backstroke!” Angela West wrote in her Facebook post.

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Marine Corps is backing off statements that Beyonce lip-synced the national anthem during her performance at President Barack Obama's inauguration. The Marine Corps issued a statement Tuesday saying it determined that a live performance by the Marine Band was ill advised because there was no opportunity for Beyonce to rehearse with the band. Marine Corps spokesman Capt. Gregory Wolf says no one in the band is in a position to know whether Beyonce's vocal performance was live or pre-recorded. Earlier a spokeswoman for the Marine Band told news outlets the band was notified at the last...

Philadelphia (CNN) -- Andrew Cattaneo is still in shock. It's been only a day since his neighbor across the street, Melissa Ketunuti, was found dead in the basement of her row home Monday afternoon, her hands and feet bound, her body set on fire. Standing in the doorway of his home, Cattaneo watched as police detectives returned to the scene Tuesday while news reporters huddled nearby trying to stay warm on the blustery January afternoon. "She was very pleasant, very nice, very friendly and quiet," Cattaneo said, looking across the street. "It's very upsetting." Although authorities were awaiting the final...

Interesting article and conclusions per 'chicken/egg' antidote/warning from London based, Dr.David Healy: [“I predict then the outcome of more school screenings for mental illness will be more mass killings, even if the guns are taken away and the mass killings are not done with guns.”]

Egypt's president is a current member of the Muslim Brotherhood. The Muslim Brotherhood is the ideological parent of Al Queda and other violent Jihadist groups waging war against the U.S. in particular and the West in general. As recently as 2010, President Morsi labelled Jews as "descendants of apes and pigs." The current administration rightly called those remarks "deeply offensive." We have no reason to believe Mr. Morsi does not still hold those beliefs, protestations to the contrary notwithstanding. He has recalled no transformative event which caused him to change his thinking. Thus, Egypt's Morsi should not receive any more...

•Peugeot Citroen invents technology for air car ready for the market by 2016 •'Hybrid Air' engine system runs on petrol and air, instead of electricity •Company predicts 'Hybrid Air' to achieve 117 miles per gallon by 2020 French car giant PSA Peugeot Citroen believes it can put an air- powered vehicle on the road by 2016. Its scientists say it will knock 45 per cent off fuel bills for an average motorist. And when driving in towns and cities costs could be slashed by as much as 80 per cent because the car will be running on air for four-fifths...

Once soldiers’ votes are counted and the distribution of Knesset seats recalculated, the Bayit Yehudi (Jewish Home) party may be back up to 12 seats. The extra seat would likely come at the expense of Ra’am Ta’al, which currently stands at five seats, up from its current three. Party head Ahmed Tibi expressed hope Wednesday morning that soldiers’ votes would not hurt the party’s new standing.

We are not alone in this fight! While California is known across the country as being on the forefront of liberal politics, we have twelve sheriffs (so far), who decided it was time they tell the country, and Vice President Biden, that they do not agree with the anti-gun majority. Maybe it comes as a shock to the more liberal parts of the state, that there are so many sheriffs who do not stand with the majority. And we hope it does. For too long, we've heard the sheriffs from California's major cities (San Francisco, Los Angeles, etc), act as if...

The one thing that President Obama and the National Rifle Association seem to agree on is that the U.S. needs to develop a more effective firearms policy. Over the past month, both sides have offered suggestions: Obama has proposed a four-part plan to ban assault weapons, protect schools, implement background checks, and screen out mentally ill potential gun purchasers. As for the NRA, spokesman Wayne LaPierre proposed the "National Model School Shield Program," a plan to train teachers in the use of firearms and enlist volunteers to patrol school grounds. Both proposals have severe shortcomings: Obama's assumes the passage of...

Russia plans to sell multipurpose submarines abroad January 22, 2013 Andrei Lvov Russia’s military-industrial complex is increasing arms exports through Rosoboronexport, year after year, and the naval component is no exception. However, the latest contract for the supply of non-nuclear submarines is unique. Rosoboronexport is in continued talks with Italy on the supply of S1000 submarines. However, these boats will not see action in either the Russian or the Italian navy. Instead, they will be sold exclusively to third-party countries. Experts at the Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering and Italy’s Fincantieri completed the conceptual design of the S1000...
