PrintShare This The strength and status of any nation can be measured in part by the will and might of its navy. That’s not an outdated thought; it’s a modern reality. As the largest, most versatile, most capable naval force on the planet today, America’s Navy epitomizes this idea. And yet, far more impressive is what it does with the distinction. A symbol of power, a force for stability America’s Navy serves as an essential force of stability in an increasingly unstable and interconnected world – as well as a vanguard for positive change. Why is this important? Because what...

Continuing my map series on voter registration, this shows the county-by-county trend from last January. Democrats had a positive trend in only one county (Adair), and that was only +0.29%. Republicans netted positive percentages in the other 76 counties, capped with +8.22% in Marshall County. With the rate at which the GOP is catching up to the Democrats, the Republican Party will likely take the lead in voter registration sometime in 2014.

"You know we can't just drill our way to lower gas prices. If we're going to take control of our energy future, and can start avoiding these annual gas price spikes that happen every year when the economy starts getting better, world demand starts increasing, turmoil in the Middle East or some other parts of the world, if we're going to stop being at the mercy of these world events, then we need a sustained, all-of-the-above strategy that develops every available source of American energy - oil, gas, wind, solar, and nuclear, and biofuels, and more." President Obama made these...

Many of the Islamist terrorists shot their way into the In Amenas compound on Thursday using the AK104 model of Kalashnikov, which was typically used by Libyan rebels in the war against Muammar Gaddafi. They brought F5 rockets that also surfaced in the Libyan war, said the security source. The Islamists wore the same type of outfits that Qatar provided to Libyan National Transitional Council rebels by Qatar – yellow flak jackets with brown patches, known as "chocolate chip" camouflage. The garments are copies of ones worn by Americans in the Gulf war. The terrorists also employed 60mm gun-mortars used...

Veteran ABC newswoman Barbara Walters has fallen at an inauguration party at an ambassador's home in Washington and has been hospitalized. Walters, 83, fell Saturday night on a step at the residence of Britain's ambassador to the United States, Peter Westmacott, ABC News spokesman Jeffrey Schneider said. The fall left Walters with a cut on her forehead, he said. Walters, out of an abundance of caution, went to a hospital for treatment of the cut and for a full examination, Schneider said on Sunday. She was alert and was "telling everyone what to do, which we all take as a...

The producer of a documentary on the civil right to keep and bear arms has posted a trailer in advance of the film’s release that provides a powerful, timely and resonating counter to the ongoing media frenzy pushing for citizen disarmament edicts. Kris Koenig, Emmy award-winning producer and writer, and founder of Dead Patriot Films, Inc., which is producing “Assaulted, Civil Rights under Fire,” has been the driving force behind an effort to provide an all-encompassing look at the individual right recognized by the Second Amendment, both from an historical perspective and as a contemporary societal necessity. “This film will...

President Obama’s announcement last week on his plans to make sweeping changes to our nation’s gun laws by presidential executive order is yet another example of his continual disregard for the United States Constitution and the separation of powers it set forth to protect the American people from government by fiat. Putting aside for a moment the misdirected emphasis on gun ownership, as opposed to mental illness and cultural glorification of violence to curb gun crime, President Obama’s actions represent another attempt to circumvent Congress – a Congress elected by the people but controlled by Republicans – to establish public...

WASHINGTON — The administration of President Barack Obama has rebuffed reports by U.S. diplomats on the use of poison gas by the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad. A cable from the U.S. consulate in Turkey asserted that chemical weapons might have been used in a Syrian military attack on Homs on Dec. 23, 2012. An investigation into claims that Bashar Assad deployed chemical agents against rebels in Homs concluded that there was a “compelling case” that some form of poison gas had been used, according to a leaked diplomatic cable. “The reporting we have seen from media sources regarding...

If you think Members of Congress should have to pass a budget before they get paid, watch and share the (weekly Republican address) (with Rep. James Lankford) (R-OK). To give Congress time to pass a budget, the House of Representatives will vote this week on a temporary three-month debt limit increase. But if the House or Senate fails to pass a budget in that time, Members of Congress will not be paid. Here are some facts to remember:

There are now some 2,000 French troops in Mali France's military aim in Mali is its "total reconquest", French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has said. "We will not leave any pockets" of resistance, he told French television. France has sent in 2,000 troops to help Malian forces fight Islamist militants who now control the northern half of the country. Mr Le Drian said the former Islamist stronghold of Diabaly had not yet been retaken, even though the militants withdrew from the town two days ago. However, he added that "everything points to a favourable evolution of the situation in...

Sevare, Mali (CNN) -- The Malian military has gained control of the central town of Diabaly, Mali, a key advance in the battle against Islamist militants in the north. The country's forces retook the town without ground assistance from French troops, a military spokesman said. The French military confirmed that it provided only air support. French officials later said Malian forces had managed to push the Islamists into the forest beyond Diabaly. But battles in the region continued to rage. Rebel control over Diabaly was one of the chief concerns to Mali and France in trying to stop the Islamists'...

This week, January 22-23 marks the 134th anniversary of the Battle of Rorke's Drift in Natal Province, South Africa. Everyone knows the story of the small company of Welsh troops from the 24th Regiment of Foot who held off a force of up to 4,000 Zulu warriors who outnumbered them twenty to one. I plan to celebrate the occasion tomorrow by viewing the classic movie of the siege starring Stanley Baker and Michael Caine, made fifty years ago. It looks like there won't be anything else worth watching on TV that day anyway.
