Obama said 12/01/07, "Before I even get inaugurated, during the transition we're going to being calling all of you in to help us shape the agenda. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher became one of only seven Republicans today to vote in favor of a resolution chastising South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson for his now-famous “you lie’ remark during President Barack Obama’s health reform speech last week. The vote was 240-179. It was largely a party-line vote with 12 Democrats voting no and seven Republicans voting yes. Besides Rohrabacher, the rest of the Orange County delegation voted along party lines. I wasn’t surprised. Rohrabacher, who was sitting behind Wilson the night of the president’s speech, told me that night that he thought his colleague’s action of saying “you...

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger apparently has been captivated by recent news stories about a conservative filmmaker who exposed misdeeds at ACORN, the national organization that serves low-income residents and has been involved in controversial efforts to register Democratic voters. The Republican governor sent a brief memo Wednesday to Democratic Attorney General Jerry Brown asking him to investigate ACORN's activities in San Bernardino. Two conservative activists have posted videos of their visits to ACORN offices around the country in which they posed as a prostitute and a pimp seeking advice. In San Bernardino's ACORN office, a volunteer who claims to be a...

I agree with President Carter that racism is playing a role in recent outbursts against President Obama. During President Obama’s speech on the status of health care reform, some members of congress engaged in a public display of disrespect. While one Representative hurled the now infamous “you lie” insult at the President, others made their lack of interest known by exhibiting rude behavior such as deliberately yawning and sending text messages. Health care reform is the most important domestic issue facing America today. Disease does not discriminate. African American, White, Asian, Latino, Republican, Democrat, no one in America is immune....

Pasadena, CA, — Today, Norman Augustine, the Chair of the U.S. Human Space Flight Plans Committee, testifies to the U.S. Congress to present the summary of their final report to the Obama Administration. The Committee made a number of important conclusions and suggestions for changes in Constellation, the currently planned U.S. human spaceflight program.

Two claims are made all the time in the health care debate: 1) that there is little competition among those providing health insurance and 2) that it is important to take the profit motive out of providing health insurance. Both are myths. It turns out that claims about too little competition are based on a misinterpretation of the data and that non-profit insurers are so abundant that the largest insurer in virtually every state is a non-profit. You would probably never know either of these points from listening to the news. Proponents of government provided health insurance, such as President...

Climate Change: A Treasury Department analysis says a cap-and-trade law could cost American families more than $1,700 a year. No wonder administrators tried to keep the study secret. The House narrowly approved — by seven votes — the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill in June over complaints that it would be an undue financial burden to American families. It passed after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi strode to the chamber floor and claimed that "this legislation means jobs, jobs, jobs and jobs. Let's vote for jobs." Even some of the bill's supporters had to roll their eyes at the assertion. It was a talking...

The City of Brotherly Love isn't showing much to book lovers. All 54 of Philadelphia's libraries are scheduled to close because the state of Pennsylvania has not been able to pass a budget to fund the library system. "All branch and regional library programs, including programs for children and teens, after school programs, computer classes, and programs for adults, will be cancelled," the Free Library posted in a notice on its Web site. All 250,000 books, disks and other items that have been borrowed are now due Oct. 1, and nothing can be borrowed after Sept. 30. Pennsylvania lawmakers are...

I would not go see the film "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan" because I found more cruelty than humor in deliberately exposing unwitting civilians to the easy ridicule of smug sophomores. Now the right has its own Borat-style entertainment. Equipped with a video camera, conservative activists James O'Keefe, 25, and Hannah Giles, 20, sought the answer to this question: "What if a 'prostitute' and her alleged law school boyfriend walk into ACORN seeking housing for an underage brothel to fund his future congressional campaign?" The answer, they discovered, was that some of the...

This morning, at around 11AM PST, I got a worried call at work from my wife, who was home watching Turner Classic Movies on Wave Broadband, on cable channel 75. The remote was across the room. Suddenly the programming changed to CNN, which is on channel 36, where Obama was talking, apparently live, about Healthcare. My wife got the remote, but it wouldn't respond to the channels she punched in. After about a minute or two, the programming switched back to Turner Classic Movies, but after neither switch was the channel number identified as it would be if an actual...

For liberals, the health care debate apparently boils down to the psychological qualities of the two sides. Nice people want socialized medicine, and mean, selfish people don’t. Last week, blogger Amanda Marcotte declared that an individual’s support for the public option—including taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegals—depends on whether that individual developed “a sense of empathy in early childhood.” (Yes, she really said that.) As long as liberals are going to play psychologist and turn a serious policy debate into petty speculation about their opponents’ emotional states, they should read “Makers and Takers” by Peter Schweizer. Afterward, they might just shut up...

US special envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu twice on Wednesday. Senior Palestinian officials who met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas after his meeting with the American statesman Tuesday told Ynet that the US commitment to reach a peace deal within two years was clarified during the meeting. The Palestinians estimate the Americans are adopting de facto the plan presented by Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad. The meeting between Mitchell and Netanyahu started about an hour late on Wednesday. The two discussed the possibility of holding three-way talks between Netanyahu, Abbas,...

VIDEO: Yesterday, The Center for Freedom and Prosperity Foundation (CF&P) released a video on the empirical relationship between the size of government and economic growth. Entitled "The Empirical Evidence Against Big Government," the educational video comes at a crucial time as government spending rose rapidly during the Bush years and Obama is continuing the same failed policies.

Getting morality lessons from Pakistan is shameful, says Israel Jerusalem, September 16: Israel has said that it does not need lessons in morality from a committee established by Syria, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Somalia. Responding to the findings of the Goldstone Commission Report with regard to the Israel Defence Force (IDF) aggression in the Gaza Strip earlier in 2009, Foreign Ministry spokesman Yossi Levy said: "Israel has examined itself in the light of day in innumerable investigations and a robust system of independent courts." "We have nothing to be ashamed of, and don't need lessons in morality from a committee...

War is a game to our politicians now. War used to be something that happened only when we are given no choice. Our leaders pulled together, our country pulled together, and we put all our might in defeating the enemy. When forced to fight, we pulled no punches. Our generals ran the war and told the country what it needed to win. We bombed the enemy, we shot the enemy, and we made sure the enemy suffered as much as possible. Much to my disgust, war now has a series of ‘rules’ designed to hamper our troops and make us...

"There is only one antidote for racism: the philosophy of individualism and its politico-economic corollary, laissez-faire capitalism." Ayn Rand Ayn Rand called racism the lowest, most crudely primitive form of collectivism. She believed it was the notion of ascribing moral, social and political significance to man’s genetic lineage. However, the definition of racism has been expanded to include not only genetic lineage but political belief as well. This became evident when former President Jimmy Carter claimed Representative Joe Wilson's outburst at President Obama during a joint session of congress was racially motivated. He went on to say that Americans are...
