Story linked through Drudge: Berlin Questioning 2000 Light Show By MAURICE FRANK Associated Press Writer BERLIN (AP) -- Two Berlin officials are calling for the cancellation of the centerpiece of the city's millennium celebration: a huge, animated ``light sculpture'' around a towering column that they charge is reminiscent of the spectacles put on at Nazi rallies in the 1930s. ``Since 1937, so-called light-architecture has been politically loaded and historically burdened,'' Tiergarten district mayor Joern Jensen and city building official Thomas Flierl said in a statement issued Wednesday. The millennium ``Cathedral of Light'' even shares the same name as the spectacle ...

"There is no justification for a self-described pro-life Republican governor to celebrate and honor an abortionist." (Phoenix, AZ) - Steve Forbes, Republican presidential candidate, today questioned Texas Governor George W. Bush's commitment to the pro-life cause. Mr. Bush signed a bill naming a Texas highway after Houston abortionist, John B. Coleman. Mr. Forbes challenged Governor Bush to rescind the law and rename the highway immediately. According to the Houston Chronicle (February 7, 1999), Mr. Bush became the "first governor ever to name a public site after an abortionist" when he signed a law naming the Harris County portion of ...

If Gun laws make cities safe, why is Washington D.C. the Gun Murder Capitol of the U.S. ? How can we get the media to report on this ? Please take time to read the following Website. AlbertGore.COM Remember...If we can sue the gun manufacturers for selling a defective product when a criminal uses a gun to shoot someone, we should be able to sue the AUTOMOBILE Manufacturers for selling a defective product when a drunk driver causes an accident. IF THE MANUFACTURERS KNOW THAT ALCOHOL IMPAIRS YOUR ABILITY TO DRIVE, then they should have designed the vehicle to ...

Bill Bradley is in a snit. He says Vice President Al Gore has repeatedly lied about his record and intentions. We hope Bradley doesn’t stand at midcourt waiting for someone to call the foul. If he does, Gore will continue to run up the score. Read the rulebook. There’s nothing in it about lying. It’s too bad and we neither encourage nor condone it, but lies in elective politics are almost as common as soft money donations. No one is going to feel sorry for Bill Bradley because Al Gore or anyone else is dribbling around or running over the ...

Edsall Washington Post Staff Writer Thursday, December 9, 1999; Page A22 The outpouring of opposition to the World Trade Organization has severely shaken the free-trade wing of the Democratic Party, threatened grass-roots union support for Al Gore's presidential campaign and potentially undermined the party's hopes of retaking the House. The spectacular collapse of last week's WTO talks in Seattle could have a major impact on American politics next ...

Dangers of Our Time: Freedom and Arbitrariness Dietrich von Hildebrand From Trojan Horse in the City of God A perverse conception of freedom prevails today that experiences the universality and objectivity of truth, and the fact that it is withdrawn from our arbitrariness, as a demeaning infringement on our freedom. The inherent exclusivity of truth, the elimination of other possibilities (especially in metaphysical and ethical truth) is seen as an unwelcome obligation to a commitment. We might compare this condition to that of soldiers who inhaled poison gas in World War I and then experienced fresh air (which to ...

Criminals sans frontiers THE MERGER: How Organized Crime is Taking Over Canada and the World TIMOTHY APPLEBY Saturday, December 4, 1999 By Jeffrey Robinson McClelland & Stewart, 387 pages Eyes bulging, New York-born author Jeffrey Robinson looks maniacal as he peers out from the dust jacket of The Merger. On the front cover, where an Uzi machine gun and a cellphone adorn the table of an about-to-be-convened boardroom meeting, the subtitle reads, How Organized Crime is Taking Over Canada and the World. That may be a stretch. True-crime aficionados, however, should not flinch. For the most part, this is a ...

We now live in an age where motives are everything. Why don't we ask about the facts? Why don't we examine merits as opposed to motivations?I believe it is heroic to be willing to go against the grain.I'm reading as inspirational book called Halftime, about an individual who goes through a mid-life crisis and determines that he is going to live the second half of his life for significance, since he lived the first half of his life for success. I'm finding that very intriguing.History teaches us that we do in fact shape the course of events by our own ...

There are lots of yard signs in Southern Ohio. Each sign proclaims "We stand for the Ten Commandments." "When we first ordered the yard signs back in March, we ordered 10,000, and some people said, 'That's crazy, you're never going to get rid of those,' " said Doug Ferguson, a local minister who's helping to get the message out. "Now, we're up to 50,000 that have been ordered." The signs are little plastic echoes of four granite monuments engraved with the Ten Commandments at four local schools. Privately funded, the stones were placed with permission near the flagpoles. It ...

CRACKS IN THE IRS WALL The procedures below are designed to force IRS agents to follow their own rules and are based on information available at: Law research-Registry Good news from one of the people in the Northeast we've been working with for some time -- he just received four notice of lien releases. Our friend began the FOIA process early last summer with the primary object being to secure assessments that comply with requirements of 26 CFR § 301.6203-1. The disclosure officer defaulted, so he filed a FOIA complaint on July 15. Until yesterday, he has been somewhat in ...

WASHINGTON (APBnews.com) -- By February, America's prisons and jails will house 2 million inmates, more than half incarcerated for nonviolent crimes such as drug offenses or property crimes, says a report released today. The Justice Policy Institute, which opposes prison overcrowding and seeks alternatives to incarcerating nonviolent drug offenders, said the prison population has doubled since 1990, making this "the most punishing decade" in American history. The report's estimate of 2 million in 2000 is based on the Justice Department's midyear prisoner statistics. The growth rate has gone up, even as the crime rate has fallen dramatically. Some states such ...

Editorial: Guns and the court Taking a tortured path to firearms regulation Thursday, December 09, 1999 America is gun-crazy and lawsuit-happy. That's a combustible potion when government tries to regulate an industry by threat of litigation. There are legitimate methods for controlling gun-manufacturing, a business that has profound consequences on crime, safety and life itself. The chief method is legislation by Congress and state assemblies. The Post-Gazette, in fact, has been a staunch supporter of many gun-control measures. But we draw the line at using the courts to harass a legal industry into submission. That has been the intent and ...

I don't believe I have heard one GOP candidate, as well as Pat Buchanan, address the issue of illegal immigration and control of our borders...This was a reasonably high profile topic in the 92 and 96 elections, but it has disappeared in the current debate...Why? Is the GOP fearful of losing the Hispanic vote?..Are they afraid of hurting W's chances??

Who's Exploiting Racial Divisions Now? by Stuart Taylor Jr. National Journal | December 4, 1999 URL: http://www.frontpagemag.com/archives/politics/taylor12-09-99p.htm BRAZILE … WILL NOT LET THE "WHITE BOYS" WIN. And that's not a description of "gender or race, it's an attitude. A white-boy attitude is 'I must exclude, denigrate and leave behind,' " Brazile says. "They don't see or think about it. It's a culture." It is the sense of utter entitlement. And that she will not have. That is how Washington Post reporter Robin Givhan quoted Donna Brazile, Al Gore's campaign manager, deep in a glowing Nov. 16 profile. Imagine the same ...

Washington, Dec. 9 (Bloomberg) -- The question of a tax-free Internet is emerging as a potential problem for George W. Bush in his drive to become the Republican presidential nominee. Nearly all of Bush's challengers, particularly Senators John McCain and Orrin Hatch, champion a tax-free Internet, and have criticized Bush for not joining them. Bush has taken a more cautious stance. He supports the current federal ban on new taxes targeting the Internet. He has not joined McCain and Hatch on a farther-reaching proposal to ban all sales taxes on purchases made over the Internet. That would be a ...

I am trying to find out exactly how the money gets to the public after it is printed by the Federal Reserve. I am assuming additional money added to the cash supply, not replacement of old money. In other words, how can inflation be avoided when new money is printed? If anyone has any good web pages that explain this please post them here.
