PRISTINA (Reuters) - A detailed human rights survey published on Monday presents witness accounts from ethnic Albanian refugees of how Serb forces targeted women and children as well as men during the Kosovo conflict. But the report also catalogs repeated incidents in which elderly Serbs became victims of revenge attacks by ethnic Albanians -- often children -- after the withdrawal of Yugoslav troops in June. The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) published two extensive reports into human rights violations in Kosovo before, during and after NATO's 11-week air war against Yugoslavia. The first report covered the period ...

Six who died in Worcester remembered Families recall firefighters' devotion to a perilous duty By Ellen Barry, Globe Staff and Marcella Bombardieri Globe Correspondent, 12/06/99 WORCESTER - Under a fine rain of ash yesterday, with the smell of carbon hanging in the air, cranes and a wrecking ball gently dismantled the warehouse that had become a sarcophagus to six men. Among the firefighters who died inside the Worcester Cold Storage and Warehouse Co. on Friday was one who bore some resemblance to the Cowardly Lion in the ''Wizard of Oz''; one who gently eased his company into the computer age; ...

Mass graves containing the bodies of Kosovo Albanians have been discovered A grim catalogue of mutilation, murder and rape in Kosovo is unveiled in a major human rights report published by the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe. Testimony gathered by OSCE monitors from more than 3,000 witnesses and refugees builds a detailed picture of recent events in Kosovo. It says massive human rights abuses were carried out by Serbian forces on Kosovo Albanians. This was followed by revenge attacks against remaining Serbs after Belgrade withdrew its troops from the province. "The evidence of recent violations ... indicates ...

Untitled Normal Page MURDERS IN BOSTON Homeless people were illegally tresspassing and staying in a vacant building near Boston. These homeless vagrants built fires to stay warm rather than seek comfortable refuge in the many shelters available to them. Homeless people generally don't like the shelters because they might have to do some nominal work and generally are requested to give up their addictions to drugs and alcohol. Officials in Boston have not labeled these horrific deaths as what they are. MURDER. Manslaughter at the least. These homeless vagrants should be rounded up and prosecuted for their actions. Meanwhile, ...

A friendly heads up! The six Republican hopefuls will be "debating" again here in Phoenix, Arizona tonight at 6:00 PM local (8:00 PM EST). It will be covered live by CNN and will be video-streamed live on CNN.com. The "debate" will hopefully be more "debate-like" than previous events--local newspaper says "All six to debate, pose questions." I and my spouse plan to attend in support of Dr. Keyes.

The Y2K factor © 1999 WorldNetDaily.com Understandably, I receive quite a few e-mails from readers. Sometimes they want to know when Russia might launch an attack. Usually they mention Y2K as a possible "window of opportunity." Is Y2K a good time to launch an attack against the United States? The answer to this question, it seems, has been provided by the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff. On Sept. 22 Reuters carried a story headlined "Pentagon Planners Mull Y2K Sneak Attack," by Jim Wolf. The opening paragraph of Wolf's article reported that the Y2K computer glitch "could open the door to ...

Perhaps that's why he enjoyed being a conservative -- it guaranteed he would frequently be a target. Recently, I dodged my own political bullet when ...

CLEVELAND (AP) — Hundreds of psychologists guilty of serious professional misconduct continue to treat patients because regulatory boards composed of their peers are reluctant to discipline them, The Plain Dealer reported. Boards nationwide have revoked only a handful of licenses, and in most cases impose minor sanctions such as loose supervision, ethics coursework and therapy, the newspaper reported Sunday. Of the 670 psychologists disciplined nationally for sexual misconduct, 131 were only reprimanded or were placed on probation under terms that allowed them to continue practicing, the newspaper reported. The newspaper's survey of the nation's regulatory boards found that from ...

In politics, they say, timing is everything. And that of New York Senate candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton couldn't have been worse last week. On Nov. 16 a woman in midtown Manhattan was hit in the head by a panhandler wielding a 6-pound paving stone. Brain surgery saved her life. New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani (and Mrs. Clinton's likely opponent next year) then ordered police to round up denizens of the heating grates who refuse to go to shelters at night. Mrs. Clinton was indignant. ``Criminalizing the homeless with mass arrests for those whose only offense is that they have ...

Republican hopefuls struggle to connect on voter priorities Published in The Orlando Sentinel on December 6, 1999. There's a disconnect between the public's priorities for this country and those of the Republican presidential hopefuls. The candidates forum in New Hampshire last week exposed the gap even as the two front-runners, Texas Gov. George W. Bush and Arizona Sen. John McCain, attempted to echo the public's concerns. In their wrap-up speeches, both Bush and McCain tried to balance their respective calls for cutting taxes and maintaining a strong military -- issues important to some core Republican groups but not to ...

AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) - While Democratic presidential candidates Al Gore and Bill Bradley fight tooth-and-nail over health care, Republican front-runner George W. Bush has barely thrown a punch. Critics wish the Texas governor would get into the ring, pointing out that his state has the highest rate of uninsured in the nation with about one in every four lacking health coverage. Yet Bush has been almost silent in the mounting political debate over how to best provide health care to the estimated 45 million uninsured Americans nationwide, about 4.9 million of whom live in his state. Bradley, a former senator ...

This is a call to action for FReepers to attend a public meeting being held at the Hyatt Arlington, Arlington, VA on Thursday.
