Ron Woodgeard McCain smear hurts all vets I don't know nearly as much as I ought to about all the presidential candidates, a deficiency that came to mind the other day as I was talking to one of my sons. Like all children, my kids frequently ask me what I think about such-and-such candidate. It ain't easy to admit that my information isn't much better than anyone else's. But sometimes a story concerning the campaign will come along to grab my attention. Then, I begin doing some research in the hope that the next time somebody in my family ...

Run, Hillary, Run!!! And put my champagne on ice... by Tom Adkins I hereby declare my undying support for Hillary Clinton's semi-declared Senate campaign. Really. On election eve, I'll be up all night flipping through every channel, checking out all the election coverage. I'll be ready to party. 'Cause Rudy Giuliani will spank Hillary like a naughty puppy. Dan Rather will whine. Smuggy Judy Woodruff will choke. Snooty Peter Jennings will barely spit out the words "Senator Giuliani." The state that brought us Ed Koch, Mario Cuomo, Bella Abzug and Al Sharpton will reject Hillary Clinton. This is one concession ...

Jurists in San Jose California apologize to two white Marines after finding them not guilty for the DAs witch-hunt of a frivalous case in which they were accused of beating and shouting racial slurs at an intoxicated Hispanic man in a hotel lobby. Amuse yourself with the lame excuses these public servants attempt to give the press.

Australia estimates East Timor death toll at 500 to 1,000 CANBERRA, Dec 1 (AFP) - Australia estimates the death toll in the violent aftermath of East Timor's August 30 self-rule ballot at between 500 and 1,000, Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said Wednesday. Downer rejected claims that Indonesian forces and their militia allies massacred tens of thousands of people and had dumped thousands of bodies at sea, saying they would inevitably have washed ashore eventually. "This is an assessment that we would make and the UN would make," he told a National Press Club lunch here. "Believe me, if between 500 ...

Message from Bob Schulz 12/4/99 Good day. It was pointed out that there are seven, not four, principle propositions now at the heart of our tax reform movement in America 1. In 1913, Secretary of State Philander Knox committed fraud when he proclaimed that the income tax amendment had been ratified by the required number of State legislatures; it was not properly or legally ratified. 2. There is no law that requires most American citizens to file or pay an income or social security tax; that is, UNLESS ONE'S ITEM(S) OF INCOME, listed in the Internal Revenue Code Section 61 ...

What provoked that seedy, snotty attack on Matt Drudge by the New York Times' over-dramatic critic Frank Rich? Well, Whitewater Irregular Ray Heizer points out some embarrassing stats for his paper. Drudge has had 216 million hits in the past year, a million in just one recent 24 hour period. That's about as many people who read the New York Times every day and about 25% more than read the Washington Post. Incidentally, USA Today and the Wall Street Journal both have readerships 70% higher than the Times and more than twice as great as the Washington Post. The ...

VIENNA, Austria (AP) — Four people were in comas with life-threatening injuries Sunday after being crushed by stampeding crowds at a snowboard event in Austria, officials said. Five women aged 14 to 21 were trampled to death in the incident, which happened Saturday night at an "Air and Style'' snowboard event in Innsbruck, the capital of the western province of Tyrol, police said. At least 39 people were injured, including 16 who were hospitalized, the Austria Press Agency reported, citing Innsbruck police. It wasn't exactly clear how the incident happened. Rescue workers and police sources said it appeared that a ...

PHOENIX (AP) — Hoping to appeal to young computer-savvy voters and raise interest in their party's presidential primary, Arizona Democrats plan to hold what elections experts say will be the first binding Internet balloting for public office. Choosing candidates from home with a simple click of a computer mouse could boost turnout for the March 11 primary, though some worry about the potential for fraud. ``This will be the first thing to come along to motivate people to vote since the repeal of the poll tax,'' said state Democratic Chairman Mark Fleisher. But Deborah Phillips, president of the Voting Integrity ...

St. Archangel Michail Monastery and orthodox church near Binac village, in Kosovska Vitina area, were blasted and completely destroyed, while monasteries' woods were nicked, reported radio-amateurs from Kosovsko pomoravlje area, to Beta agency on Sunday. Delegation of Serbs from Vitina, on initiative of Church National Committee and ministers from that district, in escort of soldiers of international forces in Kosovo, went to Monastery ruins. Dear Ann: You once printed an essay about how to raise your children to be losers. I thought it was one of the best I've seen on the subject. With the terrible trouble teenagers are getting into these days, and with more of them in juvenile detention centers than ever before, it might be a good idea to run it again. Schenectady, NY Thank you for asking. I printed that essay in my column many years ago, and was told it was prepared by the police department of Houston. Here it is, for those who may have missed it: ...

SEATTLE (APBnews.com) -- A Maine business that touts itself as the world's leading retailer of gas masks is planning to file suit against the city for banning the devices during the violent protests over the World Trade Organization meeting. Mark Miclette, founder and president of Gas Masks Inc., said he will challenge the ban on constitutional grounds and because it violates federal law. "It's a direct violation of the Weapons of Mass Destruction Act of 1996, which allows Americans to carry gas masks, and it's unconstitutional," said ...

BRITAIN'S European partners are threatening to humiliate Tony Blair by sidestepping a British veto on a new Europe-wide tax which is seen as a threat to the City of London. Mr Blair and Gordon Brown, the Chancellor, vowed to block proposals for a savings tax on cross-border investments but officials in Brussels have produced a scheme to move the legislation into an area where the national veto does not apply. If successful, the ploy could set a precedent for developing a harmonised European Union tax system by majority voting, overriding British objections and leaving Downing Street's European policy in tatters ...

Israel to invest in Indonesia President Wahid says the funds will be invested indirectly The Indonesian President, Abdurrahman Wahid, has said that Israel will invest $200m in his country, the world's largest Muslim nation. A report in the Jakarta Post quoted Mr Wahid as saying the investments would be made indirectly, through a foreign firm. "I told them, and they themselves agreed not to directly invest but rather to do it through a third party," Mr Wahid said. It's bad enough that most voters don't vote. In 1998, the turnout was 36 percent, along with 1986 the lowest since 1942, when a lot of Americans were away fighting the war. But now most Americans won't even respond to opinion polls. The response in some recent polls fell as low as 20 percent, which makes you wonder what significance these surveys have. That is very serious because a lot of important decisions are based on opinion polls.

Kosovo ‘Better Off’ NATO Claims Success, But Acknowledges Continued Problems By David Ruppe ABCNEWS.com Dec. 3 -- Despite ethnic killings, dangerous landmines, homeless civilians and a shortage of police, NATO officials are insisting that Kosovo is better off than it was before NATO fought its war over the province last spring. "I want to stress that there is a positive side to the situation in Kosovo today," NATO’s top civilian leader, Secretary General George Robertson, said Thursday at a biannual meeting of NATO government defense ministers, held in Brussels. In a joint communiqué NATO’s 19 defense ministers acknowledged that ethnically ...

In Kosovo, Criminals Are Free To Roam Lack of Legal System Impedes Prosecutions By R. Jeffrey Smith Washington Post Foreign Service Sunday, December 5, 1999; Page A41 PRISTINA, Yugoslavia--Hundreds of ethnic Albanians in Kosovo arrested for serious crimes, including murder, assault and rape, have been set free without an indictment or trial because the province still lacks a functioning criminal justice system six months after NATO forces arrived, according to United Nations documents. In many cases, the suspects are quietly let go within two to three days of their detention by the few judges serving here, the documents show. More ...

During Fox News' interview with Alan Keyes, they should have asked him about the following four issues: Why has your campaign in Iowa fallen apart? Why did your Iowa Vice State Chairman resign in August and your Iowa State Chairman, Ron Granzow, resign last week? Is your campaign deeply in debt? If not, why have you not paid your former staff since last May? All year, you have been promising your Iowa supporters that you would get out of the race by year's end if you could not build enough support to win the Iowa caucuses. When do you intend ...
