Untitled Normal Page SpinTech: June 12, 1999 How To Tell a Democrat From a Republican (Or "Liberal from a Conservative" or "Leftist from a Right Winger" - without loss of generality) by Leon Felkins Conservative, n. - A statesman who is enamored of existing evils, as distinguished from the Liberal, who wishes to replace them with others. -- Ambrose Bierce Many of you have expressed great confusion, in these troubled times, in trying to tell a Republican from a Democrat. Sure, we know what they say they are; most of them have well displayed nameplates. But could you tell ...

TEN REASONS WHY GORE IS A LEAD-PIPE CINCH As much as I think it will be even more destructive to what little is left of the republic than the current first felon's maladministration, based on the reasons listed below I find it inconceivable that Algore will not be the next prez. I hope I'm wrong, but doubt it. I will concede that #9 might be the one I am wrong about, but even that is not likely to do the trick. 10. Most of America is apathetic. In the face of what there is to be passionate about regarding the ...

Just heard these potential Hillary campaign slogans on Rush: If Hillary could beat those indictments, she can beat Rudy! He betrayed her, you shouldn't! Vote for Hillary - if you've ever cheated on your wife, here's your chance to make up for it. Hillary will do for New York what she did for Health Care. Hillary - she's tough, she's smart and she'll put up with anything. Vote for Hillary - Your life won't be complete until she's your Senator. Hillary - one of Bill's favorite women! Vote for Hillary - if she could put up with Bill, she can ...

Here are some pearls of wisdom from the man who may be our next president, the man who claims he invented the Internet. He makes Dan Quayle look like Albert Einstein. So, where has the media been on this? No, don't answer that. Subject: Goreisms There were Bushisms and Quayleisms, and now there are Goreisms..... "I was recently on a tour of Latin America, and the only regret I have was that I didn't study Latin harder in school so I could converse with those people." -- Al Gore "If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure." ...

The Reality of Y2K Failures By Michael S. Hyatt July 7, 1999 Amazingly, some people still think Y2K is a hoax. These people are obviously in deep denial. The number of reported failures are continuing to mount, and these are likely only a fraction of those that have occurred. Every now and then I encounter someone who thinks that Y2K is a hoax. These people assert that there have been no documented Y2K-related failures and that the whole issue has been concocted by computer consult-ants, preparedness products suppliers, and authors trying to sell books (yours truly). Unfortunately, ...

I missed all but last minute of program this morning. I invite anybody who lives in Los Angeles area who heard Larry's program this morning on KIEV-870(dial) to share what they heard. I just heard some woman whining about all the money W raised and "It's just not right." Rogan was asked about W's view on illegal immigration. Rogan said that W had the same concerns about illegal immigration in Texas as we have in California. Before he left, Larry asked him to ask Gov if he would call in for interview. Rogan said that he would relay request.

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Meghan Johnson, 14, stood in the bright sun at Blue Grass Airport yesterday morning next to local politicians and business leaders waiting to greet President Clinton, who was making a stop on his way to Eastern Kentucky. Meghan, a soon-to-be-freshman at Madison Central High School, was wearing a T-shirt that said, "First Pen Pal," and she held another T-shirt for Clinton. Printed on the back were the words: "Meghan's Pen Pal." Meghan and the president have been exchanging letters since she met him on the campaign trail in 1996, during a stop in Ashland. Since then, ...

DOD Testing Likened to War By Rick T. Vannelli July 7, 1999 Both John J. Hamre, Deputy Secretary of Defense and Dr. Marvin Langston, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense and Deputy Chief Information Officer, have stated that the 1999 testing of the systems that must operate in concert to perform Department of Defense (DOD) functions is as complex as going to war and, therefore involves all areas of the DOD: the Services (the Military Departments), the Principal Staff Assistants of the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and the Commanders-in-Chief. On February 24, 1999, Hamre reported to ...

Reason number 436 that a New York Senate run by Hillary Clinton would be unspeakably entertaining: Al Sharpton. While the first lady is exempt from many of the usual political rules, there are certain realities of New York politics with which even she mus t contend. Like any left-leaning candidate, Clinton would need to do exceptionally well on Sharpton's home turf of New York City, where registered Democrats abound but turnout is often low (and where presumptive GOP candidate Rudolph Giuliani has amassed an impressive record as mayor). And, despite his penchant for racial demagoguery, the Reverend Sharpton has ...

ME-FIRST LADY DELUDED BY SENSE OF GRANDEUR By ANDREA PEYSER, New York Post July 7, 1999 (Posted for educational and discussion purposes only.) THERE is a name for someone like Hillary. A name exists for a person who routinely cuts corners. Who has no problem appropriating the money or labor or talents of others to achieve personal gratification and glorification. There is a name for someone who exaggerates accomplishments. Who believes her innate superiority entitles her to obfuscate, evade and lie. There is something you could call one who is fundamentally incapable of carrying out any task to completion. A ...

I found this thoughtful letter to the editor at WND. My advice to all the "just win, baby!" Dubya lovers out there: Listen to the heart of the grassroots GOP voter, if you really care about winning in November. Here's one to get you started: "I am compelled to vote. I will never let myself regret not voting when I have a chance to do so. I am compelled to vote for the right men. I will never let myself regret voting for someone because he was simply the popular choice. If there is one thing I learned from Rush, ...

The determined attempt of East Asian nations to bolster their military security in the face of perceived or real threats is creating a rash of strategic insecurities. Looked at from this perspective, North Korea's brandishing of military options seems more contemporary East Asian than old-line Stalinist. Sure, the North Koreans are preparing to fire their second medium-range missile within a year. But reliance on the military gesture is increasingly characteristic of Asia in general.      Take South Korea, invariably painted as the victim of Northern tantrums. But despite the current government's "sunshine" policy of diplomatic engagement, it's organizing its own buildup. ...

0230 GMT, 990707 – Hungary Supports Vojvodina Autonomy Plan The Hungarian Foreign Ministry announced July 6 that two political parties representing the ethnic Hungarian minority living in the Yugoslav province of Vojvodina had created an autonomy plan for the province. The plan, introduced at a meeting in Budapest between the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (VMSZ) and the Vojvodina Hungarian Democratic Party (VMDP) that was mediated by the Foreign Ministry of Hungary, outlines three possible levels of autonomy for Vojvodina Hungarians: personal autonomy, local autonomy, and territorial autonomy. Personal autonomy would involve personal rights granted due to ethnic status, such ...

7 Wonders of Mount St. Helens by Lloyd & Doris Anderson Introduction: The 7 Wonders, summarized below, are seven geological features resulting from the eruptive activity of the ‘80’s and displayed at the MSH Creation Information Center. Because they were formed rapidly they challenge evolutionary thought which assigns long ages to such formations. We call them “wonders” because of the awe they produce. In fact, it is our persuasion that these wonders are a message from God to remind man of the speed in which He created the world. 1. Mountain rearranged beyond recognition in nine hours. MSH was acclaimed ...

What’s your worst nightmare? Here’s one that should make you wake up screaming: The Republicans’ mail order presidential candidate, George W. Bush turns out to be a lousy campaigner, loses the general election and we end up with President Gore. Forget that the president will be a lunatic who thinks he’s invented the internet and “Love Story” was based on his life. What’s he going to do? Kill foreigners to distract from his personal problems? Cruise the West Wing? Suborn perjury? We’ve had insane. Forget the painful state of the union addresses -- you can always turn off a ...

GOP proposes slashing capital gains tax WASHINGTON (AP) - As investors continue pouring money into the stock market, House Republicans are proposing to slash the top capital gains tax rates from 20% to 15% as part of the GOP's mammoth tax relief bill. The announcement Wednesday by House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bill Archer, R-Texas, followed Tuesday's unveiling of a proposed new exemption for people who provide long-term care to elderly relatives at home. An estimated 84 million Americans now invest in stocks, up 170% since 1970, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service. Archer said reducing capital gains ...

Go here for the article, and here for where I originally found the link... Government Trust Fund and Deficit/surplus Report (updated February 1999) (a chapter of the Grandfather Economic Report series) by Michael Hodges I am concerned about rising debt being passed to our younger generation, and siphoning-off social security trust fund surpluses to spend on non-pension stuff. This is not the way to 'save social security first' or protect our younger generation and, certainly, its not the way to improve citizen trust in government which continues to decline. Some political leaders brag to the general public "we ran a ...

MSNBC's Seigenthaler: "While we are waiting for the first lady, I thought we might tell our viewers a little story that appeared in the Courier-Journal in Louisville, Kentucky and it is about the president. And of course, the president has been visiting poverty stricken areas around the country in the last couple of days. And he will be in South Dakota a little later on today. ... But apparently the president has a pen pal. A 14 year old girl from Richmond, Kentucky and he has written this girl 35 times. The girls name is Megan. She met ...

In her new book, *The Corruption of American Politics*-- Elizabeth Drew, the veteran Washington journalist, has a searing description of what has happened to the nation's capital since she and I began working here and became friends. "Indisputable," she writes, "the greatest change in Washington over the past 25 years . . .has been in the preoccupation with money . .It has transformed politics and it has subverted values. "It has led good people to do things that are morally questionable, if not reprehensible. It has cut a deep gash, if not inflicted a mortal wound, in the concept of ...
