We're Almost There: First Quarter '03 FReepathon Now Underway .. Thread 7

.... ...
The Free Republic first quarter '03 FReepathon is now underway!

Our goal for this fundraiser is the same as last quarter: $65,000. We have about $4,000 per month coming in from monthly donors so we will need to raise approx $53,000 to hit the target.
The funds raised through these fundraisers are used to pay our operating costs. Free Republic operates on an approximate $260,000 annual budget (breakdown here) and all funds are provided by donations from FReepers and Lurkers.

Thank you all very much for your continued support.
P.S. We are planning to make FreeRepublic.com email addresses available as a thank you to all who donate at least once per year. This new feature should be ready to go within a few days. We will post a notice and a link for donors to setup their FR email address as soon as it's ready.
Donate to FR and help us keep the lights on for the best political forum on the NET!

One winter morning Norman and his Blonde wife were listening to the radio when they hear the announcer say, "We are going to have 3 to 4 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the even numbered side of the street, so the snow plow can get through."

Norman's wife goes out and moves her car.

A week later while they are eating breakfast, the radio announcer says, "We are expecting 4 to 5 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the odd numbered side of the street, so the snowplow can get through."

Norman's wife goes out and moves her car, again.

The next week they are having breakfast, again, when the radio announcer says, "We are expecting 10 to 12 inches of snow today. You must park ...........", then the electric power goes out.

Norman's wife says, "Honey, I don't know what to do."

Norman says, "Why don't you just leave it in the garage this time?"

The numbers on the bar graph never match the Scoreboard during a FReepathon because the Scoreboard tabulates donations actually received.

All of the monthlies (old and new) are in the Scoreboard total, but because there are two more months to go in this quarter, an estimated amount for the next two months was added in when we we hit the 60% mark. That's why we got the big bump.

Actually, I am going to take issue with this, Norm. IMHO, Christo is a legitimate artist, running a profitable business and not operating off government grants. He regards the process of organizing and operating the project as an essential element of the art. In that regard, he has integrity whether you agree with his politics or appreciate the work, or not.

The Running Fence in Sonoma County, California was a marvelous piece, and he pulled it off with class. He met with everybody along the route and worked out any issues with (almost) all of them. He treated farmer and worker alike with respect and a good time was had by all (except the idiot environmentalists who didn't want it to end in the water off the coast, citing the threat of "irreparable damage to tidepools" (he did it anyway after hiring a biologist to check it out; the tidepools are fine)).

Did you hear about the Texas teacher who was helping one of her
kindergarten students put on his cowboy boots?

He asked for help and she could see why. Even with her pulling and him
pushing, the little boots still didn't want to go on. Finally, when the
second boot was on, she had worked up a sweat. She almost cried when the
little boy said, "Teacher, they're on the wrong feet." She looked and
sure enough, they were.

It wasn't any easier pulling the boots off than it was putting them on.
She managed to keep her cool as together they worked to get the boots
back on - this time on the right feet. He then announced, "These aren't
my boots."

She bit her tongue rather than get right in his face and scream, "Why
didn't you say so?" like she wanted to. And, once again she struggled to
help him pull the ill-fitting boots off his little feet. No sooner they
got the boots off and he said, "They're my brother's boots. My Mom made
me wear 'em."

Now she didn't know if she should laugh or cry. But, she mustered up the
grace and courage she had left to wrestle the boots on his feet again.

Helping him into his coat, she asked, "Now, where are your mittens?" He
said, "I stuffed 'em in the toes of my boots."

Her trial starts next month.

Are checks and PayPals added to the scoreboard once Jim receives them?
