It is a well known fact that there are scores of computer professionals who have been laid off and are out of work in this country. Those positions include software engineers, network engineers, and electrical engineers. Those who have lost their jobs in the past 24 months know what I am talking about.
We all know WHY we've been laid off. It is because indentured servants from other lands have overrun our country with the help of Congress due to the false premise of a labor shortage by IT industry lobbyists.
Here we have an opportunity to "layoff" those who were responsible for OUR layoffs.
Below is a link that provides information as to what your Senator and Congressman have voted for in relation to this problem;
Additionally, if you'd like to know which companies in your area hire H1B workers to replace Americans, click on the following link..
Seems to be the only thing left to do for many..
As I said though, take a look at 2001. You'll exceed 500 records on a "Search All Categories" search. And that is just for ONE year. Most if not all of those workers have visas that don't expire until 2003/2004.
I haven't seen ONE one year visa. ALL of the records I've looked at so far for Houston H1-B hires in 2001 went into 2004.
Many others were dismissed during the recession.
Not according to the data I've just looked at.
The fact is that there were well over 500 in 2001 and less than 100 in 2002.
That's well over 500 RECORDS for 2001. Each record can have multiple workers, and there are quite a few workers on many of those records...
I think you are right there. The solution?? Don't really have a clue.
I can still remember when NAFTA was being touted as the solution of everything. We were told we would send manufacturing jobs overseas and the US would be the leader in technology. Everyone laughed at the blue collar worker who was put out of work and told 'Get some education, get into the technological field.' We were going to export technology - of course they didn't say that along with the technology, we would also export those tech jobs, as well.
A country cannot survive this way.
It's obvious to me that the reps don't care. All they care about is their corporate buddies who scratch their backs. SO, I've decided to vote AGAINST any politician who's voted in favor of H1-B. I'll vote for anyone who's against it, I don't care what party they represent (within reason of course)..
Yes, absolutely.
Unfortunately, it was BOTH sides of the aisle that fell head over heel in their efforts to appease the IT industry lobbyists to flood our country with foreign engineers on H1-B visas. I'd say both sides of the aisle went along with all of the other issues you mention as well.
I am well aware of that. Funny how they can layoff all of these people from Lucent, Nortel, etc., yet they have scores of foreigners working there supposedly to fill jobs that they couldn't fill otherwise..
It is criminal.
If criminals didn't control things, it WOULD be criminal.
I can also tell you these people are laughing at Americans for their foolishness. Letting these foriengers come in here and take these jobs.
I'm sure they are, hell I'd be laughing too if I were them...

Sinkspur lives for the moment and for irritating people by defending indefensible positions.
I may try to put together a ping list for H1-B issues. If anyone else is interested, drop me a line..
Depends on the phase of the moon with him I think.. :()
