Secretary of State Antony Blinken's Ego Will Cost Armenian Lives
Armenian Mirror-Spectator ^ | June 8, 2023 | Michael Rubin

He may want a Nobel Peace Prize, as might Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan or even Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. It is unlikely, but should the Norwegian Nobel Committee oblige, the Blinken prize would herald a humanitarian disaster, as did the Nobel Committee's award to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in 2019.

The problems with Blinken's peace plan are huge.

Democracies should not bully fellow democrats into conceding to terror in the face of aggression. Nor should the State Department dismantle democracies and force their submission to dictatorship. Most alarming, Blinken actively ignores Aliyev's abuses, even as Aliyev incites genocide and denies the legitimacy of an entire population.

As Armenian lands have fallen under Azerbaijan's control, Azerbaijanis have demolished churches and destroyed a millennium-old cemetery. They, like Palestinian extremists do toward Jews in the Holy Land, denied any historical connection between Armenian communities and the lands on which they have lived for thousands of years since founding the world's first Christian state 1,722 years ago. This is why Azerbaijani restorers sandblast Armenian inscriptions from churches and insist they belong to ancient Albanians rather than Armenian interlopers.

That Blinken is silent as Azerbaijan demands Armenian priests abandon the Dadivank monastery suggests indifference to cultural eradication.

Aliyev, meanwhile, finds solace in sycophants who deny any legitimacy to Armenia's population, dismissing their community in Nagorno-Karabakh as no more real than "Narnia." That said, Blinken's silence is the rule rather than the exception. Be it in Nigeria, with regard to the Uyghurs, or in the South Caucasus, Blinken has been the worst secretary of state for religious freedom, at least since Cordell Hull insisted on sending Jews back to Nazi Germany as the Holocaust loomed.

The problem for Armenia is they bet on an alliance with Russia to protect them. That turned out to be a bad gamble.

Azerbaijan allied itself with Turkey and Israel, and that alliance has proved very effective.

Armenia needs to abandon Russia and find better allies if they want to survive.

Armenia was doing just fine with Russia until they decided to turn away in favor of NATO, turns out Washington cares more about Azerbaijan and its hydrocarbons.

Russia chose not to intervene to punish the Armenians, and they lost a lot of territory as a result. Washington couldn't care less if Armenia is destroyed.

The Azerbaijis were getting bullied by the Iranian mullahcracy regarding the Caspian gas field, and so they and Israel have a common interest. Obama's regime tried to undermine that of course. The Turks have been hatin' on Israel since the Weirdogan took over.
The Turks and Azeris are ethnically similar. The NW of Iran is Azeri, and since Azerbaijan is now pretty rich and has gone on an arms shopping spree, I'd be surprised if war didn't break out with Iran at some upcoming opportunity, such as Iran's getting bogged down in the border battles with the Talibafghanistan.
Balochs are another good-sized minority in Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Turkey share the territory that should be Kurdistan.
Luckily for all involved, the Middle East is historically a peaceful place.
Rimshot!

Blinky is one of FJB’s biggest jugheads. A lot dumber than Slamin and Jammin’ in the Slammer, Sammy Brinson, FJB’s official women’s underwear thief.

0:11·South Caucasus region of Eurasia
0:13·Armenia or as the locals call it hiya
0:16·Stan this is one of the most underrated
0:20·countries in the world it has so much to

·About Armenia
0:35·the north and east armenia is bounded by
0:37·georgia and azerbaijan while its
0:40·neighbors to the south east and west are
0:42·Iran and Turkey it's a small country
0:45·with a population of 3 million people a
0:47·former Republic of the Soviet Union
0:49·which became famous worldwide after its
0:52·Velvet Revolution in 2018 since that
0:55·time many people became curious to see
0:58·what's happening in this country today
0:59·so let's take a look upon arrival at the
1:05·International Airport tsar snorts first
1:07·thing that's going to surprise you is a
1:09·huge bottle of wine and fry the airport
1:12·this means that the journey is going to
1:14·be both interesting and delicious under
1:20·the Soviet rule the Armenian economy was
1:22·transformed from agricultural to
1:24·primarily industrial today however
1:27·agriculture remains important our
1:30·meanies economy still suffers from the
1:32·breakdown of the former Soviet trading
1:34·patterns the conflict with Azerbaijan
1:37·over nagorno-karabakh has not been
1:40·resolved
1:40·also Armenia turkey relations are
1:43·officially non-existent and have
1:45·historically been hostile the closure of
1:47·Azerbaijani and Turkish borders has
1:49·devastated the economy because Armenia
1:52·depends on outside supplies of energy
1:54·and most raw materials
·Economy
1:58·our minions take special pride in the
2:00·production of cognac brandy wine and Ken
2:03·fruit the largest wine and cognac makers
2:06·are Iraq and Noah recently they started
2:10·exporting brandy to the United States
2:12·and Europe to this day the economy
2:14·relies heavily on investment and support
2:16·from Armenians living abroad so what was
·Recent Revolution
2:23·the recent revolution all about
2:26·nomination for the post of Prime
2:27·Minister of search Sarkozy on who had
2:30·already been in power for more than 10
2:32·years was a tipping point and led to a
2:35·series of protests from April to May
2:37·2018 as a result of The Velvet
2:40·Revolution mr. Sarkissian had to resign
2:43·and the opposition leader
2:45·Nicole Pershing an became prime minister
2:47·wasn't worth it yes as a result Armenia
2:51·went up in the rankings of the reporters
2:53·without borders from the 80th to the
2:55·61st place Armenia is now working hard
2:59·to provide a favorable investment
3:00·climate and to develop its IT industry
3:04·however local residents say there's a
3:07·little bit of disappointment after the
3:08·Revolution because the expectations were
3:11·too high salaries continue to be at a
3:14·low level
3:14·according to the official data the
3:16·average salary is just around 300
3:19·dollars a month but the local people say
3:21·that it's even lower than that and it's
3:24·around 150 dollars a month
·Geography
3:31·Armenia is a mountainous country with a
3:33·great variety of scenery
3:35·the average altitude is five thousand
3:38·nine hundred feet or 1,800 meters above
3:41·sea level
3:42·summer is lawn and hot the average June
3:45·and August temperature being 77
3:48·Fahrenheit or 25 Celsius international
·Tourism
3:53·tourism is growing most tourists come
3:55·from Russia Iran and the US in 2018 1.6
4:01·million people visited the country and
4:03·the number has been increasing by
4:05·roughly 10% since 2010 hey guys so you
4:10·from Hong Kong that is unbelievable we
4:14·are in Armenia and you have tourists
4:16·from Hong Kong so what's your impression
4:18·of Armenia okay and friendly and always
4:27·willing to help a travel guy here
4:35·oh that's cool and what's your favorite
4:38·location so far two mountains there is
4:46·that yeah that's the one I went there
4:52·yesterday okay wonderful thank you guys
4:56·and enjoy your trip Mount Ararat which
4:59·was historically part of Armenia is the
5:02·highest mountain in the region now
5:04·located in Turkey but clearly visible
5:07·from Armenia it is still regarded by the
5:09·Armenians as the symbol of their land
5:13·Armenia is famous for its mountains &
5:16·monasterys the pagan garni temple built
5:19·around the 1st century is the only
5:21·greco-roman colonnaded building in the
5:24·post-soviet States another monastery
5:27·that's about 15 minute drive from the
5:29·garni temple Gegard is a medieval
5:32·monastery being partially carved out of
5:34·the adjacent mountain surrounded by
5:37·cliffs it is listed as a unesco world
5:39·heritage site
5:40·this monastery complex was founded in
5:43·the 4th century by Gregory the
5:45·illuminator at the site of a sacred
5:47·spring inside a cave now let's look at
5:51·the cities upon arrival in Yerevan the
5:55·capital of Armenia I had some mixed
5:58·feelings you step out of your hotel and
6:00·you see people selling all kinds of
6:02·stuff on the streets you see dilapidated
6:04·housing blocks from the Soviet era
6:06·garages in the inner yards of the
6:09·apartment blocks but as you move closer
6:11·to the center you see Republic Square
6:13·and the Cascade complex they look very
6:16·fresh and modern many central buildings
6:19·are pink because they're made of local
6:21·volcanic pink tough stone some of the
6:25·best places to visit in the city are the
6:27·fountains on the Republic Square the
6:30·first zip line in the city that goes
6:33·under a bridge the Armenian Genocide
6:36·memorial the Victory Park with Soviet
6:39·military equipment and the mother
6:41·Armenia Monument from which you can get
6:43·a great view of the city some of the
6:46·popular walking areas are the northern
6:48·Avenue The Oprah theater square and the
6:52·Swan Lake Park not far from it when it
6:55·comes to public transportation there is
6:57·subway in Yerevan which was opened in
7:00·the year 1981 and today it has 10
7:03·stations and fortunately they wouldn't
7:05·let me go and film inside few people
·Erebuni
7:10·know that Yuri Vaughn has turned two
7:12·thousand and eight hundred years old in
7:14·2018 erebuni is an ancient city and it's
7:19·located within the modern-day Yerevan
7:21·it's an ancient city of the country or
7:24·r2 hey guys what's up well guess what
7:29·I'm in Armenia I'm in Yerevan finally
7:32·and right now we're in this place is
7:35·called the erebuni
7:36·and this is this used to be a fortress a
7:41·long time ago a long time ago it dates
7:45·back to the year 782 before Christ so
7:50·this makes Yerevan 29 years older than
7:52·Rome
·Gyumri
7:54·humor is the second city in both
7:57·industry in population and it's the
8:00·Republic's major textile center it was
8:03·called Lenin ikonn during the Soviet
8:05·period the surroundings of the city are
8:07·rich in black tough a building material
8:11·so it doesn't come as a surprise that a
8:13·lot of buildings in the center are built
8:15·from this material and fortunately in
8:18·December 1988 there was an earthquake
8:22·that caused severe damage and killed
8:24·25,000 people in the country the city
8:27·had to be rebuilt from scratch today
8:30·there is peace and tranquility in the
8:32·center and if it wasn't for the cars you
8:35·might think you were at the beginning of
8:36·the 20th century one of the main city
8:40·attractions is the black fortress
8:42·sitting on top of a hill not far from
8:44·which is the Russian military base
8:46·Turkey is just ten kilometers from here
8:49·so they're hiring the Russian troops to
8:51·protect it from Turkey but that's just a
8:54·thought nearby is the monument modern
8:57·Armenia around you Marie the scenery is
9:00·beautiful you'll find Lakes green fields
9:02·where you can enjoy magical sunsets
·Vranas
9:08·the third largest city in Armenia is
9:10·vanna's or in the Soviet times it was
9:13·called cure of a can tigran Avenue is
9:17·the main avenue of vanna's or that's
9:20·where all the shops and restaurants are
9:21·located but walking and driving through
9:24·the city you will feel like little has
9:26·changed since the days of cure Becan
9:29·[Music]
9:36·another important city in Armenia is
9:39·vegara path it's located just 20
9:42·kilometers from Yerevan and it's one of
9:45·the most significant cultural and
9:46·religious centers of the country in 1945
9:50·the gursha pad was renamed to H me ed
9:54·zine the Etchmiadzin Cathedral Armenia's
9:58·Mother Church is considered the oldest
10:00·cathedral in the world the historical
10:03·center of the Armenian Apostolic Church
10:05·in 1992 the city was returned its former
10:10·name but today in everyday life they
10:12·used both names many people call this
10:14·complex the Second Vatican the local
10:18·specialty of the city restaurants is
10:20·cúcuta it's a chopped spicy ground beef
10:23·cutlet cooked in broth Armenia has the
·Wings of Tatia
10:29·longest cableway in the world and it's
10:31·listed in the Guinness Book of Records
10:33·it's called wings of Tatia unfortunately
10:37·that great footage I had from the trip
10:39·to Tati of monastery was lost but I
10:44·strongly recommend you go and check it
10:45·out and along the way make sure you stop
10:48·at Nava ranked monastery which is
10:50·located in an incredible natural
10:53·surrounding among the canyons there is
10:56·no C in Armenia but there is a huge
10:58·beautiful Savan Lake the largest
11:01·freshwater lake of the Caucasus it is
11:04·located in a mountain bowl at an
11:06·altitude of about 2 kilometers above sea
11:08·level
11:09·the buggah lake sits savana van
11:11·monastery getting here from Yerevan is
11:14·not difficult it only takes about an
11:16·hour by car
11:22·roads are in decent condition around
11:25·Yerevan but as you move outside of the
11:27·city you will encounter some bumpy roads
11:29·with a bunch of potholes on the city
·potholes
11:35·streets you will find a surprisingly
11:37·large number of Mercedes when it comes
11:39·to natural gas vehicles did you know
11:42·that Armenia is number one in the world
11:44·77 percent of their cars run on natural
11:46·gas Armenia is a post-soviet country and
11:53·while the majority of the older
11:54·population can speak fluent Russian with
11:57·a younger population it's not always the
11:59·case
12:00·let's try to exchange a few words with
12:02·this kids do you hear that this does not
12:25·develop okay okay Armenians love to play
12:30·chess and backgammon and actually they
12:33·teach chess in local schools Armenians
12:38·are very patriotic about their
12:39·motherland no matter where they live the
12:42·Armenian diaspora living all over the
12:44·world makes up about 6 million people
12:47·the events of 1915 it's known as the
12:50·armenian genocide when 1.5 million
12:53·Armenians were murdered forced millions
12:55·of Armenians to move to other countries
12:57·[Music]
13:08·yes
13:14·Oh Joe
13:16·[Music]
·Armenian philanthropists
13:22·today many Armenian philanthropists are
13:25·trying to play a part in the country's
13:27·life they invest in the economy there
13:30·restore parks and cultural heritage
13:32·sites not everyone knows the Armenian
13:36·language one phrase that will catch your
13:39·attention is the French word mercy as a
13:42·way of saying thank you is used
13:44·everywhere in Armenia they love music in
13:50·Yerevan you will find a lot of places
13:52·that play jazz

Russia didn’t intervene because Nagorno-Karabakh isn’t part of Armenia. Putin couldn’t care less if Armenia is destroyed.

Putin doesn’t care because they tried to align with America and America supports Azerbaijan. Now they have nobody to back them and they face a bleak outlook for their continued existence.

What?

We’re the ones throwing them under a bus because Turkey a NATO ally, with the Bosporus and on the Back Sea, where we have bases, is far more valuable to us.

To the Russians the Armenians are a lot like the Jews in the West. There is a substantial Armenian population in Russia and they tend to be merchants and in banking, finance etc. Somewhat influential politically.

It’s the Russians that offer some security for them.
