A House committee voted to label the death of Armenians during WWI as genocide. Because these deaths were at the hands of the Ottoman Turks, the nation of Turkey is all but pleased with the vote.
In fact, now the nation has ordered its ambassador in Washington to return to Turkey for "consultations." While they claim to not be withdrawing the ambassador permanently, it definitely has not helped relations with Turkey.
Now you may wonder why in the world the U.S. House of Representatives, which can't even pass the budget bills that are needed to fund our federal operations, would vote to condemn Turkey for something that happened to Armenians nearly 100 years ago. Would it help you to understand why they have done this, and why they have angered a strong ally in our war against Islamic terrorism, because the district of the Speaker of the House (that would be Nancy Pelosi) happens to have a large Armenian population?
Whether the House, or any members of Congress, wants to admit it or not, Turkey is vital to our war on terror. 70% of our air cargo that is headed to Iraq goes through Turkey. So does one-third of our fuel used by the military in Iraq. The US bases there are vital to supply water and other supplies to the troops, which are taken by Turkish truckers into the northern region of Iraqi Kurdistan.
Despite all of this, the Democrats in Congress decide that now during war time is the appropriate time to pass this resolution. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says that she has been in Congress for 20 years and they have been trying to pass this for 20 years. She says that the excuse is always "bad timing." Well, Nancy, maybe you should have thought harder about this particular timing ... just because you have the power doesn't mean that you need to ruin relations with nations that are essential to our war on terror. Oh wait, that's right. You don't support our troops OR the war, so what do you care anyway.
The Bush administration is clearly upset over the vote, and it said that Congress could "better spend their time passing legislation attending to today's problems at home." But it all comes down to this, folks. This vote was a "triumph" for an extremely well-organized Armenian-American interest group who has lobbied Congress for decades. And there you have it. The special interest groups. The lobbyists. These are the people that are, apparently, running the show.

How much lobbying has been done in Washington to get the U.S. involved in Iraq in the first place?

The Armenian Genocide topic is being used by the Dems as a way of impeding the current Anti-Jihad War and harming President Bush. The Turks are just collateral damage.

Turkey refused to let the 4th ID fullfill their mission in Iraq.
The Islamic nihilism that slaughtered millions of Christians during Turkey's formation, is the same religion that we face today.
Was this resolution done at an awkward time, and with political motives? Yes.
Do I lose any sleep that Turkey is upset about never having come to grips with wiping out Christians in Asia Minor? Hardly.

You have Christians fleeing Iraq under the threat of persecution right now. And this has only occurred because the U.S. has overthrown Iraq's largely secular Ba'athist government and replaced it with a new "democracy" in which Islam is enshrined as the official state religion.
If any of this sh!t makes sense to anyone here, please wake me up and fill me in on it.

It was done specifically to embarrass the president, not to tend to lobbyists or any sort.

When Iran falls, in large part due to our presence in Iraq and Afghanistan, then I think it will be a lot clearer.

Do I lose any sleep that Turkey is upset about never having come to grips with wiping out Christians in Asia Minor? Hardly. That isn't the point. The point is that this is the wrong time for the traesonous democraps and rinos to get them upset with us -- it could cost American lives and cause us to lose the damned war.

I get the point. But Turkey's betrayal of the U.S. in the opening stages of the war vis-a-vis the 4th ID ALREADY cost American lives, by taking pressure off of Syria in the opening stages of the war, and complicating combat operations.
I'm all for using Turkey, if it gets more jihadis killed. But I don't think we need to treat them with kid gloves. They help us when it is in their best interests, and they are too realistic to let a Congressional resolution change that. So if they get their feelings hurt, well, too bad. They won't change their behavior in the War based on this resolution.

RE: # 15
So if they get their feelings hurt, well, too bad. They won't change their behavior in the War based on this resolution. Be that as it may, it was a damned stupid, viscious and treasonous move on the part of Pelosi and that bunch.
And, nations don't do this sort of thing every day for nothing:
ANKARA, Turkey Turkey ordered its ambassador in Washington to return to Turkey for consultations over a U.S. House panel's approval of a bill describing the World War I-era mass killings of Armenians as genocide, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said Thursday.

So it might make sense to keep the kid gloves on for a while.

Do I lose any sleep that Turkey is upset about never having come to grips with wiping out Christians in Asia Minor? Hardly. Well, if the results that the traitorous rats hope for come to pass, I hope you will remember your lack of concern as our troops suffer a loss of all they have fought for and accomplished - not to mention suffer more KIA's...and untold other ramifications over this deliberate and traitorous act...
Sleep well...
