Beyond the Usual Limits of Stupidity
Stupidity is a boundless commodity; a well that never runs dry.
Consider the following:
My daughter works in a small church as Parish Administrator . It is a ( sometimes thankless ) job that includes handling telephone calls from people , who are trying to sell things ,and/or conducting surveys designed to pave the way for future sales calls.
Today, she took part in a survey (things were quiet) conducted by a woman who spoke fluent, colloquial American English, but was otherwise clueless.
What kind of business is this ? , the woman asked. My daughter answered a church .
Yes, but what sort of products do you produce ? What are your annual sales ? How do you advertise ?
Even after being told repeatedly this was a church she was calling, the woman asked , Who is your CEO ?
We don't have a CEO. This is a church .
Well, then who do you look to for guidance ? God ? Did you say God ? I don't understand !
This sort of cluelessness might be almost excusable in someone barely out of school , who was trying to learn the ropes in a brand-new job...but, when I see it demonstrated by the august members of the House Foreign Relations Committee, I am stunned beyond belief !
The Committee voted (pretty much along party lines) to condemn Turkey for acts of genocide against the Armenian people : acts said to have occurred about 90 years ago, during the closing days of World War I at a time when Turkey was still ruled by the old Ottoman Empire.
The charges are serious , and, according to an eye witness I knew personally, absolutely true . Over one million Armenians were uprooted from their homes in Turkey ,on suspicion of disloyalty to the Empire , and , between the depredations of the Turks and the neighboring Kurds (Yes, the same ones now trading gunfire with Turkey) approximately one million perished. The League of Nations issued all sorts of statements deploring the slaughter, but nothing else was done. Adolph Hitler is said to have been inspired by the example of Turkey when he launched his own final solution.
So, why not issue a condemnation ?
As usual, there is quite a bit more to the story . The Ottoman Empire fell, and little by little, Turkey became a democratic (by Middle East standards) nation.
What's more, after World War II, they became allies of the United States : a spearpoint aimed at the Soviet underbelly (and, I might add, a source of intense aggravation to the most extreme of the Extreme Left in this country.) Turkish troops fought beside us in Korea, and, in time, Turkey became a full member of NATO : the North Atlantic Treaty Alliance.
Right now, although Turkey is officially a neutral party in the Iraq conflict, US forces in Iraq rely heavily on Turkish permission to use their airspace for US cargo flights (per the Associated Press). 70 % of the fuel, water, and other supplies our troops in Iraq need are trucked in from Turkey.
I'm sure we pay through the nose for all this help ; nonetheless , we rely on the good will of Turkey whether it is purchased or freely given ; and the House Foreign Relations Committee, has, knowing full well how Turkey would react , persisted in slapping that proud nation across the face with a condemnation based on 90 year old charges !
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is and was a long time supporter of this resolution, according to the Associated Press. I wonder -as the Turkish Ambassador to the United States flies home for consultations with his government if Senator Pelosi would care to share with us why this poisonous resolution is in the national interest ?
Speaker Pelosi, IMO, and her ilk simply hate America, and their agenda is to do everything and anything within their power to bring about the fall of the USA.
Pretty simple if you look beyond all the crap we are subjected to everyday from the left.
Gene, check your last paragraph. Pelosi is Speaker not a senator.
Sophomoric mischief making. Typical Democrat behavior.
That would be the DEMOCRA# House Foreign Relatins Committee, and they not only did this knowing full well how Turkey would react, they are counting on it! Why? Because it would hurt the war effort, and that is what the Democra#s want, plain and simple!

It's not, but pelosi does not care. All she cares is that it is in the Democra# Party's "Defeat America First" interests!
And no, I'm not kidding on this or being hyperbolic one little bit. Really wish I was...
Nancy Piglosi knew exactly what she was doing, trying to piss off Turkey so we would have less access for supply to fight the Iraq war!
I have one request: PLEASE copy this and pass it along !!
Then I figured it out, you were comparing the cluelessness. Oh.
The only thing is, Pelosi isn't clueless. She knows exactly what she's doing, damaging the ability of the United States to kill Al Queda terrorists in Iraq. That's not clueless, just treasonous.
I don’t go that far, but I’ve tried to hint that some of the ancient far left grudge against Turkey for helping us contain the USSR has seeped into the “new left” mindset.
I am confused as I was in Armenia about 10 years ago and there is a park that Turkey paid for as an apology for the genocide.
It was built between WWII and the cold war.
To me Armenia accepting this park defused the issue and the only thing a person bringing it up now is to get more money or power!
You’ve just nicely illustrated how we have a party at war with us.
And then pick up the pieces of the society they shatter for themselves. Always the goal of the left.
They run the same plays over and over and over. Whine about a given social problem. Blame someone else for its existence. Gain control of lots of resources in the name of "fixing" the problem. Use the resources to make the problem even worse. Whine about the worsened problem. Blame someone again. Gain control of more resources.....Why does this keep fooling people? Dumbing down the public schools helps insure that it does and also creates the basis for ever more social problems to enable the acquistion of ever more resources.
Some Armenians were aiding the invading Russian army by providing intelligence, ambushing Turkish supply columns, etc. For the same reason we moved the Japanese away from the west coast during WWII, the Turks moved Armenians away from the Russian front.
The difference was that the Ottoman government was total incompetent. The refugees starved, died from exposure, lack of transport for the ill and elderly, were attacked by angry mobs and bandits, causing untold suffering and death.
But, there were never orders from the government to exterminate Armenians and those who lived away from the front were not molested by the government.
The main reason the Ottoman government was overthrown was their corruption and inability to govern. At the same time the Armenians were being relocated, Turkish troops were freezing to death and dying from starvation because the government could not even supply its army.
Speaker Pelosi and her ilk are interested in one thing and one thing only: Creating embarrassment for President Bush.
It's not about "the national interest". It's not even about "the Democrat interest".
It's about "the moonbat interest"...
