A Trump third party could provoke a pivotal realignment in American politics. With the support of 46% of registered voters in the new poll, Democrats would reap the benefits of a fractured opposition and entrench themselves as the nation's dominant party — even without majority support.
Among "very conservative" voters — who make up a disproportionately large bloc within the Republican primary electorate — a Trump Patriot Party crushes the GOP 55%-24%.
Should Trump remain in the GOP, his wide lead among these highly motivated voters affords him great leverage to influence the direction of the party by wielding the threat of conservative primary challenges against establishment Republicans ill at ease with the former president's combative brew of conservatism infused with populism and nationalism.

We are not a nation where splintering off builds parties, it only tears them down.
Big Example: The Bull Moose (Teddy Roosevelt) gave us Woodrow Wilson.
Building a party is building a coalition of folks you can agree with on essentials more often than you will disagree with. Total ideological purity is for the splinters that remain alone and unwilling to gain strength by coalitions WITHIN a party.
Example: I think the Libertarian Rand Paul has been far more successful and effective in the GOP than any any never elected member of the official Libertarian Party.
Example: Pro-Life Republicans have been shaping the GOP for decades and usually, within the party, quite successfully so. How would they have fared if they had chosen not to build from within the GOP but instead to leave it? I think none of what they have gotten done in government well would have been done at all.
Correct on all counts, my FRiend.
I also think that SOME (not all) of the folks currently pot-banging for a breakaway party are Marxist/Dem trolls in Conservative online garb. Their job of eliminating opposition is much easier when the Breakaway party splits every vote contest.
.
I don't know that you can infer all of that from the number of Republicans who voted for Trump in the general election. The vast majority of Republicans voted for Trump, just as the vast majority voted for the Republican candidate in every Presidential race this century. But that doesn't mean the vast majority will follow Trump to a third party any more than they would have followed Romney or Bush. Even Rasmussen's poll doesn't show that.
GOP Drops to Third Place.
Who’s in first place?
The Democrat Party, by a mile. They would get twice the votes of the Patriot or Republican Party candidates and win every 3-way race.
How to destroy the conservative movement in one easy lesson.
No, Xi is in first place.
This is a 50/50 country. Trump never ever approached 80% of the vote. You hurt your credibility with your fantasy claim of 80%. It’s not possible.
“ This is a 50/50 country...”
You hurt your credibility with this assertion
Where do you get this information?
Think
How much cheating goes on?
And has for many decades?
How many voted for trump with everything against him. Every institution
If it were 50 50. Biden would have at least approached popular vote. To now no figures have released
Yesterday Biden spoke to a combined audience of 3,500
In a country of 310 million the new president speaks for the first time and an audience the size of a minor league baseball game turns out and this is a 50 50 country.
It it most certainly your credibility that is ridiculous
Then there is nothing to lose.
The fact is it would also give the Democrats control of almost everything. Most the states with Republican Senators would now have Democrat Senators.
And nothing to gain.
Jettison the GOP honchos.
Trying to figure out why this is a “Shock” poll. The only thing I find shocking is that the GOP was able to retain as much as it did. They are the party of nothing. They’re not in charge, so they can’t represent that they stand for a principle. They can’t even stand up to the Dem’s. When they’re in control, they cow-tie to the Dem’s as if the Dem’s were the majority. Weak, weak, WEAK!
RBW in PA wrote: “I understand the logic behind taking over the party rather then start a third and I agree. However the un-representatives deserve this to happen to them.”
I understand why you might want the un-representatives to suffer, but you do realize you will suffer far more if the democrats had this much power?
Ross Perot could never HOPE to draw the crowds-and votes-that Trump has.
No comparison.
I feel better now; I checked the date!
I know how it works. I came in during the Tea Party and that’s what we were told. 12 years later we are worse off. Are you even a PC? Do you go to GOP meetings? Are you involved in your State Party? I’m saying we need to do it in and OUTSIDE the Party.
Which simply would mean the democrats would win every election and without any need for election fraud.
Ahh a John Bolton Republican I see just bend over and take whatever Karl Rove throws at you huh?
