A string of moving trucks was spotted in Manhattans Upper West Side on Saturday, according to Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa.
The mass evacuation of Upper West Siders from NYC is in full effect, he told the New York Post.
Sliwa blamed the citys decision to house hundreds of homeless people in the neighborhoods hotels for the exodus.
The moment I walked out on my block, near Central Park West, there was a moving truck. I asked where you going, and they said, Virginia. They told me, Curtis, first the pandemic hit us and now the quality of life is so bad,' he recalled.
Sliwa spoke to others moving to places such as New Hampshire and Tennessee, and one young family told him they were headed to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
They said in the last month, there have been so many disturbed people in the streets, aggressively panhandling, defecating, urinating they leave the hotels and have no bathrooms to use, he explained.
Following complaints from residents, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) promised August 17 to start removing homeless people from the citys hotels and get them back into shelter facilities.
However, he did not give a timeline as to when that process would begin, according to Breitbart News.
Safety was more a motivating factor for people leaving U.S. cities than the coronavirus pandemic, global investor Barry Sternlicht said Tuesday during an interview on CNBCs Squawk Box.
Theres hundreds of thousands of people looking for suburban homes, and I would say its not as driven by the Covid situation as it is safety and law and order, and that is now pervasive across the big cities of the United States, sadly, he stated.

Sadly they will have learned nothing and will bring their liberal voting habits with them. Ugh!
A crap ton?
And therein lies the problem, these limousine liberals run at the first sign of trouble but will undoubtedly have a BLM sign on their lawn in Virginia. They’ll vote the wrong way and destroy everything they touch.
And every one of those stereotypes is far better, much more informed, a more worthy neighbor and more trustworthy than ANY CA-CT-MA-NY liberal. And most ANY democrat worldwide.
Yes, I do despise you - if your words reflect your morals and integrity.
NYC will soon be a ghost town.
The ones who can afford to leave are leaving.
The rest will be robbing, looting and burning down buildings
thanks to DeBozo and Cuomo.
Take it easy; he’s talking about Upper West Side Manhattan libtard maggots, not you.
I agree with you regarding the reasons people are leaving liberal enclaves. After spending my first sixty-three years in New Jersey, my wife and I sold the house and moved to Phoenix, AZ. Besides the weather, my greatest delight was voting and knowing my vote wouldnt be cancelled by a million liberal voters in the Garden State.
For those of you who are concerned about your home states being polluted by liberal yankee carpet baggers, relax. The people who are leaving NYC are the open-minded conservatives who realize there IS life outside of the Upper West Side, SOHO, Riverdale and the Theater District. They will be solid citizens of your state and will not be the cause of the liberal debasement of your home territory.
The type of people you are concerned about polluting you states politics are the True Believers who will never leave Manhattan or any of the other trendy neighborhoods of the other four boroughs. Theyll never admit that theyre the ones who encouraged all of the disastrous public policies which destroyed the greatest city in the world. Besides, as others have noted, they despise most of the USA (particularly you good people in the south or Midwest) and, like Woody Allen, are prepared to go down with the ship rather than admit any of this was their fault.
I only wish that the rest of the Free Republic community could have experienced New York City in its glory years of the fifties and sixties. It really was the center of the universe!
Bring back RUDY!
“You forgot TX.”
As they should.
And now these NY liberals will bring their liberal values and votes to a state near you. And help destroy the State they move to.
The problem is that sometimes there arent any GOP primaries, so therefore theres no possibility of getting a candidate. I blame the party.
Stay the Hell out of TN.
It’s nice to hear your response. I’m about to retire and have been planning to move to TN or KY for the last 5 years (probably eastern side).
Took a trip earlier this summer looking for a new place to call home. Didn’t really make a conclusion city-wise, but definitely felt at home in the region.
This migration is a bit disheartening for me as I watch home prices and turnover. Looks like we are heading towards a very competitive market with a modest budget.
We took a good look at Johnson City, Bristol, and basically along the interstate parallel to the Smokeys. Probably didn’t look at east KY enough, but loved the rolling countryside. We might take another look this fall and move in the spring. My preference runs to smaller towns, the wife wants some shopping. If you have any recommendations for a couple of artsy (in retirement) conservatives, I’d love to hear. Fregards

East TN could use a few more rock-solid CONSERVATIVES...too many RINO’s around the Tri-Cities.
Ok, that right there is funny.
I was being flippant. I know there are many good conservatives in NY, but certainly when it comes to NYC, maggots constitute a substantial majority. No offense to good conservative New Yorkers intended.
Nice post. Thank you.
Stay the hell out of Maine.
