Oregon authorities are seeking a would-be thief who was armed with a hatchet when he tried to rob a convenience store, only to flee when the clerk drew a gun and called 911.
However, the clerk's quick thinking cost him his job, with the president of Plaid Pantry in Oak Grove explaining to local station KOIN-TV that the chain has a zero-tolerance policy for weapons.
He said employees are trained to de-escalate robbery situations to avoid injury, according to the station.
The Clackamas County Sheriffs Office on Friday released surveillance video of the incident which took place April 28 at the store, seeking tips in identifying the suspect who fled empty-handed and without the 12-inch hatchet.

Smh. It’s crazy
Let the CEO tell the family of the employee he was murdered when it happens one day
Probably lol
You are thick skinned :)
I need to learn how to be.
Apologies.
ROFL
Well of its stuck in there good and the criminal cant get it out then its mo longer dangerous! :)
“Plaid Pantry”... Some doubt in my mind as to who their typical/regular clientele are...
He should have tapped the hatchet guy. If you are going to get fired, make it worthwhile!
It’s a shame there’s no Plaid Pantry around here for me to boycott...
How does that idiot think you should de-escalate a situation where the robber has a hatchet and you’re not allowed to have a gun?
What kind of de-escalation training do they give their minimum wage employees? Do they train them to cower on the floor begging for their lives? Please sir, dont chop my head off! Here, take the money and just go away, I really didnt notice the scar running down your cheek and the birthmark on your forehead. . . Or that you dyed your hair chartreuse. No sir, I didnt.
PS: If it were me I’d have given him everything he wanted and helped him put it in his car - what with having a policy like that.
I guess the bad guy wasn't aware of the policy.
Well, CEO of Plaid Pantry convenience stores, the next time Im in Oregon, I will suddenly find I have zero tolerance for Plaid Pantry Convenience Stores. . .
What kind of de-escalation training do they give their minimum wage employees?

It is cheaper to pay off the family of a dead employee than it is to pay out a lawsuit brought by the family of robber who was killed or maimed.
They don’t care if some $10/hr employee is murdered.
But they’ll be all sad-faced on the news.
He looks and talks like a liberal moron.
[ I guess the bad guy wasn’t aware of the policy. ]
Too bad the thief wasn’t ....... fired.
An employee killed in a store robbery is covered by workers compensation insurance coverage which has a statutory death payment limit, and the employer is not even involved in a suit.
It’s a sad fact that most companies would rather have one of their employees murdered than risk being sued by a criminal if he’s shot by an employee during a robbery. If an employee gets murdered during a robbery the business is out essentially nothing other than the cost of a sympathy card to the victim’s family. If a robber gets shot by an armed employee then the business is exposed to almost unlimited liability though the courts. It’s not incorrect to say that the vast majority of companies would rather have their employees risk death than defend themselves because of the liability exposure. Of course that’s a completely immoral and unethical way to treat your employees but that’s the position of 99% of businesses today. They’re in business to make money and if that comes at the expense of their employees lives then so be it. Businesses care about minimizing their liability, everything else is secondary.
Hatchet wielding thief would like to thank the owner of the convenience store and the news reporter for letting him know the store is now disarmed. See you soon!
Like all self employed entrepreneurs, he takes on the all the risks himself. He doesnt even get workers compensation for work related injuries.
Hmmmm. . . Theres an opportunity for some unscrupulous progressive insurance company. Criminal Insurance. . . Insure them against hazards of their profession. Death, business failure, accident, public liability, medical, disability, theft continuation in case they are unable to rob, steal, or otherwise unable to work, finger insurance for pickpockets, audit insurance for tax evaders, general arrest insurance, Bail insurance, etc. I see a very lucrative market. Maybe I should patent the idea?
