Virginia House of Delegates candidate Danica Roem (D) has defeated longtime Del. Robert Marshall (R), becoming Virginia's first openly transgender elected official and one of just few in the nation, according to The Washington Post.
"Danica will bring a reporters eye to Richmond, and we eagerly anticipate her results-oriented approach to deliver for her constituents in the 13th," Virginia House Democratic Caucus Leader David J. Toscano and Caucus Chair Charniele Herring said in a statement.
"As a journalist, Danica Roem has covered the issues critical to Virginians and listened to a wide range of perspectives. During her campaign, Danica expanded this approach by listening to area residents concerns and making them integral to her own policy platform," they added.
LGBTQ advocates hailed the victory on Tuesday evening, with the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) calling it "a clear warning to anti-equality lawmakers across the country."
HRC was proud to mobilize voters to support Danica Roems trailblazing candidacy, and we look forward to working with her to help continue moving equality forward in Virginia," HRC president Chad Griffin said in a statement.
Marshall thanked his supporters in a statement posted to Facebook.
"For 26 years I've been proud to fight for you, and fight for our future. Though we all wish tonight would have turned out differently, I am deeply grateful for your support and effort over the years," he said. "I'm committed to continue the fight for you, but in a different role going forward."
Prince William County is just north of my county (Stafford). It has been liberal for quite awhile. My friend and neighbor, a very conservative man, was voted into the House of Delegates six years ago. The Republican legislature actually redistricted him and added a part of P.W. County in his area and he lost the next election. He did gain it back two years ago but became so sick of "business as usual" that he refused to run this time and a liberal from P.W. won over the Republican to take my friend's seat.
Anyway, Prince William County has become a bastion of liberalism.
Hope you see whats coming.
The scum in NOVA want it. Most of them now are transplants from Maryland or they are newer citizens from foreign countries and have no interest in what used to be the American way of life.
ROTFL. The freaks were out today in Virginia.
Letting felons and illegal immigrants vote get you Blue States.
The first openly transgendered legislator? As opposed to what—all of the secretly transgendered legislators that came before?
Not quite. Here in Stafford County, only three counties down from DC, we still vote about 64% conservative. When I first moved here in 1992 Stafford usually voted about 80% conservative but around 2000 the leftists found out how great we were and infested this great county. We still are conservative but unless we can put a stop to the growth of the US Government we will soon become another blue county as the government workers flood us even more.
My wife and I will be retiring and moving to another state where the trend is toward the right and the firearms laws are now almost as good as Virginia. We only have just over two years and I pray we can hold off the Communists/Democrats for at least that long or turn them back if we can make government smaller.
The first guy to wear a dress in public, I guess.
I have the feeling that there was voter fraud in Virginia.
The "New" Virginia votes for faggots and communists. And yes, you'll have a new governor in four years. He'll be a "married" (to another man) homosexual communist abortionist gun-control freak.
Enjoy.
And STAY THE HELL OUT OF WEST VIRGINIA!!!!!
And you're right on another count: Trump will win in 2020. But "New" Virginia's electoral votes will go to Moosechelle 0bama (or Lizzy "Fauxcahontas" Warren, or Eric "The Red" Holder, or Bradley "Chelsea" Manning, or whatever turd the demonicRATs serve up).
And seriously: STAY THE HELL OUT OF WEST VIRGINIA!!!!!
I certainly hope that some Hollywood Producer doesn’t come up with the idea of doing a remake of The Virginian TV Show.
I live in Nova. My second home is in WV. It will eventually become my first home -just a matter of how long I have before VA turns into another Maryland.
Guaranteed.
There are also:
1) Lots of perverts, freaks, communists, and people who were granted citizenship without actually understanding America.
2) A completely wretched, incompetent, ineffective state GOP run by backstabbing swamp creatures.
3) "Purists" who would rather see a truly demonic demonicRAT get elected than a Republican they don't like.
It has turned exactly to that.
MSNBC now has three openly gay anchors, Madcow (weeknights), Steve Kornacki (weekend) and Thomas Roberts (midday).
They could barely contain themselves.
Leni
And due only to the Grace of God you and I aren't subject to those delusions (why He picked me I have no idea).
Well this a low light for the evening, friggin drag queen beats an incumbent Republican. Look at this thing’s picture, where are Nathan Lane and Kevin Spacey? Did most voters know or did they just vote for the D? A tranny was also elected to city council in Minny, Afro-American, first “tranny of color” to get elected to something according to media reports.
Anyway, bad election in VA. Gillespie was slaughtered in NOVA and lost by 9 points, hard to see how Stewart could have done much worse though I still think he was a crummy candidate too who has no chance of winning the Senate race. We probably needed an ace candidate to win this one. Losses for other 2 races (LT Guv, AG) as well though they were a closer, 5 and half and 6 and half points respectively.
It’s disheartening but remember, these are rat holds, not gains, and despite a few recent polls showing a near tie or narrow R lead (amidst many others that did not) they were expected to win this throughout. VA is now unfortunately a bit of a “blue” or should I say “poo” state where rats had won 3 of the last 4 Gov elections and last 3 Presidential.
The worst part is the State House, Rs had a significant edge going and it looks like it’s lost. State Senate not up till 2019 (21-19 R edge). Redistricting will be handled by the leg elected in that year not this one. But unfortunately Governor Abortionist does have a veto even if we win the leg in 2 years.
Liberal scum are pardon by French, jizzing in their pants that it’s all to do with Trump, proof he’s toast and that Republicans should run away from him and that Queen Nancy can measure the drapes in the Speaker’s office. I’d hold my horses, this was a gubernatorial not Congressional election and in a state that Trump LOST not one he won. I don’t see how Nancy Pelosi odds have improved any.
Other results, rat won in NJ, that was certain. He’s gonna be a bad Governor and give the state GOP a chance to recover. Christie blames Trump, which is funny.
Mayor Wilhelm Von Stalin was reelected in NY, unfortunately that was certain. Looks like Rob Astorino is out in Weschester County, not good.
Other mayoral results across the country, not good. Rat incumbent in St. Pete FL narrowly reelected over popular GOP predecessor. GOP incumbents lose in Atlantic City NJ, Fayetteville NC, Annapolis MD, Manchester NH. Rat’s hold Charlotte NC.
Rats won a couple GOP seats in low turnout special elections for state House in GA.
RINO wins the Congressional Special Election in Utah. He needs to be primaried out, he only won because of divided conservative vote in the special primary.
Overall, not a good for America, filth were obviously motivated to turnout. But chill they are no closer to controlling Congress, or any state other than VA. They aren’t gonna win in Alabama and they still have an f-ton of Senators up in TRUMP states. GOP voters have every reason to turn out to support the President next year.
Article reads....”Danica will bring a reporters eye to Richmond, and we eagerly anticipate her results-oriented approach to deliver for her constituents in the 13th”.....
A deranged mind is what they’ll bring with them. And the work will be all about bringing more like them into governance.
I’m from Cumberland. I’d like to buy a few acres of land in WV (preferably sooner than later, given my health), and put a log chalet on it. Maybe around Berkeley Springs, even with its quaint Bohemian atmosphere. Do some trout fishing. I’m also a big proponent of the Western Maryland secession movement. People thought that was a lark, but given the evolving social and political environment...........well, you extrapolate from there. They shoved two prisons down our throats there, courtesy of the Politburo in Annapolis, and as I predicted, the drugs and thugs downstate migrated there like salmon coming home to spawn. The cops have their hands full and then some. It used to be a place where we could leave our front doors unlocked at night. Now I’m trying to convince my elderly mother to buy a .380 micro-carry and keep it in the nightstand. Those insufferable DC-area suburbanites have been slowly infiltrating the region with their boutique coffee shops and art galleries, holding gay rallies with bused-in twinkies, bitching and moaning about global warming that they never see or can justify, and generally seeing how far they can subtly push the envelope. And then these Millennial and Generation Zero ridge runner types buy into the delusion, and it’s changing the face of a town that has been there since the 1700’s. They’re subversive, power-craving parasites who don’t give a single damn about the chaos that follows in their wake. Their Kristallnacht is coming.
Well done. Yes.
Like I wrote to a couple of you before:
VA is as done as CA, NY or MA.
Same with NJ.
Neither of these losses were a surprise to me.
Did tonight damage The Don? I dont see it.
