‘Was That All An Act?’: Cruz Confronted by Kelly, Paul and Rubio Over Immigration History

Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz came under fire Thursday night, being accused by 2016 rivals of not being truthful about his former position on immigration.

The Texas senator was first grilled by moderator Megyn Kelly on the issue. She played video of Cruz saying he was in favor of passing immigration reform in 2013 if a pathway to citizenship was removed by way of an amendment he had proposed. Such reform would have still allowed for legalizing individuals who were in the U.S. illegally.

"Was that all an act?" Kelly asked after playing multiple video clips of Cruz. "It was pretty convincing."

Megyn Kelly even admitted in her interview after the debate with Cruz that she believes he has been perfectly consistent on his immigration positions. She said she agrees what he was doing was a poison pill. She all but admitted that they used the clips because it would be something voters “wouldn’t understand.” They wanted to put him in a tough position but using the edited clips was an incredibly dishonest way to do so. There’s no way anything Cruz could say to explain away those snippets wouldn’t sound like lying. This is perhaps where he should have unloaded his slamming of the media attack, for using these edited clips out of context.

Ok, I get it...it wasn’t the amendment per se...it was the public outrage.

Was Ted Cruz in favor of legalization or not? It sure sounds like he was.

The bill passed in the Senate, Cruz did nothing to stop it. It died in the House after Cantor lost his seat to an anti Amnesty candidate. You can read the real story here

Your correct...... hasn’t been a “debate” yet this election ....nothing but a reality TV agenda driven plethora of presstitute BS . Those participating in the debate present opposing views to a set of questions presented by the moderator. They don’t argue with the the moderator, nor are they interviewed by the moderator. The moderators in debates up to this point are NOT worth a damn....... more of a circus circle jerk cartoon . Seen better moderators at the high school level.

Debate ..... a formal discussion on a particular topic in a public meeting or legislative assembly, in which opposing arguments are put forward.

My opinion....

Jeff Sessions backs-up Ted Cruz's version of events ...

Rush Limbaugh backs-up Ted Cruz's version of events ...

You realize that bill passed in the Senate right? The one Cruz poisoned? The House defeated it, please try and keep up.

It was always going to pass the Senate. The House is the only place the people are able to kill bad legislation through the democratic process these days.

These are not true debates. This is gotcha politics that is meant to achieve goals not in line with any of the American People. The media are not our friends. We need these debates the way they are done to be stopped. They are a joke.

Was it a 'poison pill' amendment?

Yep but you could also call it a 'fig leaf' amendment. But whether you call it a pill or a leaf or a 'false flag' it won't work if you call it any of those things while it's being deliberated.

Dems: We care about exploited 'undocumented' immigrants.

GOP: We care as much as you do, but all you really want are imported voters (citizens).

Cruz was damaged tonight

Agreed. It was his role to seem presidential, above the fray, able to lead. Instead he used his opening statement to get cute about Trump's techniques. Why didn't Cruz use that time as a breath of fresh air, and get out of the mosh pit he's been complaining about? Rubio is smart enough to have said "let's move on". Did anyone up there (or anywhere) acknowledge that last night was Donald Trump doing what he's been accused of not doing? That would be putting the money where his mouth is. He raised $6 million for Veteran's causes in ONE DAY!

I thought the winners were Huckabee and Santorum. They sounded like real leaders when they shared the stage with Trump. They were the two who focused on the cause and got beyond the food fight.

Kelly and the Kandidates keep getting into the weeds and miss the big picture. It’s about leadership and authenticity Miss Piggy. The only real leader was three miles away.

It was clear from last night that Fox’s mission is to take out Trump and Cruz and promote Rubio. The so called debate wasn’t a debate but an interrogation with leftist talking points. All of the vitriol is clearly directed and meant to malign the front runners, who are the scorn of the establishment. What a farce.

Only way this tactic would be fair if they played video clips of EVERYONE’s previous statements down through the years during questions. Otherwise, it looks like a rather significant investment in time to develop a single question directed toward a single candidate.

That said, from what I saw, Cruz did not fair well in this “debate” at all.
