Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz came under fire Thursday night, being accused by 2016 rivals of not being truthful about his former position on immigration.
The Texas senator was first grilled by moderator Megyn Kelly on the issue. She played video of Cruz saying he was in favor of passing immigration reform in 2013 if a pathway to citizenship was removed by way of an amendment he had proposed. Such reform would have still allowed for legalizing individuals who were in the U.S. illegally.
"Was that all an act?" Kelly asked after playing multiple video clips of Cruz. "It was pretty convincing."

Dulce Candy mentioned that she was originally an illegal immigrant and that she joined the military and was now a U.S. citizen.
Nabela Noor blamed the United State’s hostility toward Muslims as a recruiting tool for ISIS.
Yes, this stuff Fox is engaging in is very destructive to our party. It’s not a debate at all. I think Trump may have wrapped it up tonight with a very uplifting rally for our vets. He was humble and generous to Huck and Santorum.
ESAHATM
BS
Hey I don’t need your help. You got something to say use your own words.
Thanks. Everyone knows that being mean to peace loving Muslims turns the into killing maniacs.
"Donât you love the way trumpees shut down all conversation with the Trump/Alinsky tactics? There is no discussion or debate, they canât back up anything with facts"
Not once have I seen anything to back up Trump's newly minted conservatism. The Trumpanzees expect Cruz to be 100% conservative since birth but don't hold Donald to any such standard. They distract and deflect on every single issue. There is nothing but his campaign promises and recycled bumper sticker slogans that he is running on.
He sounded like he was totally for it. How is that really against it?That's just it. When you lie and to prove it you admit you lied, no one knows when you're not lying.
I don't care if Sessions was part of the lie or not. Sessions doesn't add validity to a lie by also lying.
They both admit to making a proposal under false pretenses. Even Cruz knows that's not a simple white lie...It's fraud.
No Kenny, you are not the only one. It is beyond disgusting that the so called debates continue in this fashion all under the good auspices of the Republican Establishment. The Uniparty rules. what further proof does any thinking person need to call it what it is. A deliberate undermining of our republican values.
I'll go further than that, it's a deliberate undermining of our Democratic, Constitutional values. They are interfering in our elections and it has to stop.
Six debates now seven is plenty.
I hope Trump has set the example.
What Crosscutsaw said to me (post 18) after I asked this question is that Cruz’s admendent really trashed the Gang of 8s bill because with the admendment the illegals could have come “out of the shadows” but without being citizens i.e. voters. So this caused the bill to collapse.
Although I’n not sure why they didn’t pass it without Cruz’s admendment but I don’t know any details about the gonigs on in Congress.
It would not surprise me if Rubio takes #2 in Iowa now.
Wrong, your video link proves exactly the opposite. He says halfway through EXACTLY what he’s doing. That’s the part Fox cut out sneakily. Cruz said here the committee is expected by everybody to reject his amendment. And he says if they do reject it, it proves they don’t want any “coming out of the shadows,” or any of the other nice things they tried to sell the bill on. It proves they only want full citizenship and that they would the illegals they pretend to care so much about back into the shadows just because they wouldn’t settle for less than full citizenship with voting rights. That is what he was trying to expose, which, at the time, was not publically said by Democrats that much. He exposed that Democrats don’t want to help people, they want to help themselves by getting more undocumented Democrats to vote.
Rubio was exposed as a complete and total flip-flopper and liar on immigration. There’s no way he gains from this.
BUMP
There was a big campaign at the time led by Cruz and Sessions and others along with talk radio to get the bill killed. It really felt like it was going to pass for a while. That’s why Cruz and others were using these desperate and unusual measures to do anything to stop it. But the switchboards eventually lit up and I believe it was Boehner in the House who eventually refused to take up the Senate’s bill, realizing they would get trounced in the elections if they did.
I agree with you 100%
