Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz came under fire Thursday night, being accused by 2016 rivals of not being truthful about his former position on immigration.
The Texas senator was first grilled by moderator Megyn Kelly on the issue. She played video of Cruz saying he was in favor of passing immigration reform in 2013 if a pathway to citizenship was removed by way of an amendment he had proposed. Such reform would have still allowed for legalizing individuals who were in the U.S. illegally.
"Was that all an act?" Kelly asked after playing multiple video clips of Cruz. "It was pretty convincing."

Fox News seems incapable of holding a credible debate.
He handled it brilliantly, IMO, citing the fact that he had been cited as the main reason the bill died, which is what he wanted. he cited Sessions and it was mentioned that Schumer, the chief sponsor of the Gang of Eight, also said Cruz was the man responsible for killing the bill.
And he pointed out Rubio’s dishonesty about his history, noting that they had both run for the Senate promising to stop amnesty, but that he had kept his promise by fighting the Gang of Eight bill while Marco had broken his by sponsoring it.
Well played.
Did FOX use the Google Illegal Immigrant or the Muslim Activist?
No, he didn’t.
He’s manged to offend real Iowa voters.
I did not watch the debate, so maybe I don't quite understand -- but isn't it pretty odd for a "debate moderator" to show clips of someone's previous speeches/talks and dissect them? I thought "debate moderators" were supposed to provide questions and then stand back as the debaters debated - and to steer them back to the subject if they wandered astray.
Sounds like this was more the tactic of an 'ambush interview'. Or 'tough questions during an interview', if you prefer -- but no place for a 'debate moderator'. Unless the 'debate moderator' sought to become the focal point - rather than the debaters.
Can you explain this poison pill thing to me. I am confused.
He sounded like he was totally for it. How is that really against it?
I didn’t watch. What happened?
Don’t believe your lying eyes or ears! Ted Cruz was against the Gang of Eight Bill even when he said he wanted it to pass with his amendment. Even when he said it wasn’t a poison pill, it was a poison pill to kill the bill. It worked! Ted Cruz killed the Gang of Eight bill! That is all you have to know. Get it?
No he did not!
The whole “debate” format is obsolete and boring.
It always devolves into a show for the moderators, not for the candidates and certainly not for the voting public.
Supposedly there are six more of these.
What in heaven’s name for?
Virtually every reporter has talked to voters who say “I was a Trump supporter, but now I’m not.” Read letters to the editor columns, and you get the same thing.
She often reminded me of Candy Crowley. But it could be argued that she used the Cruz confrontation as a springboard to go after Rubio.
Agreed. I watched it unfold myself. No one EVER thought Ted Cruz was for amnisty. Revised history.
Rubio, Schumer and the gang of 8 wanted a path to citizenship to "bring people out of the shadows." Using their own term, Cruz offered an amendment removing the path to citizenship and said even without the path to citizenship the bill would still allow them to "come out of the shadows."
Cruz knew of course that what they really wanted was to make the illegals citizens so they could become voters, and they would never support the bill that included his amendment. It exposed their motives and the tactic worked - the bill was killed.

I watched Kelly’s interview with Teddy. She said - I dug around long and deep - and it was a poison pill.
Don’t you love the way trumpees shut down all conversation with the Trump/Alinsky tactics? There is no discussion or debate, they can’t back up anything with facts.
Cruz was funny tonight and had some excellent moments. Even Jeb made some good points, they all did.

Great Question!....My Guess??...When the target didnt show up..they sent the “snipers” packing.... it would have looked silly otherwise
