McDonald runs towards one police cruiser while brandishing a knife, a 2nd cruiser rolls up, cop steps out walks towards McDonald and proceeds to shoot him 16 times.

And the cop is charged with first degree murder?
One shot would have sufficed. Even a taser.
16 shots?
‘Van Dyke has had 20 misconduct complaints made against him during the past 4-1/2 years, none of which led to any discipline from the Chicago Police Department, according to research by Craig Futterman, a University of Chicago law professor and expert on police accountability issues.’
The cop was on scene less than 20 seconds before he opened fire on McDonald who appeared to be walking away from police.
Crowds beginning to gather and march in Chicago..............
Good let them burn the place down
We still don’t know exactly what happened and what threats may have been made in that 20 seconds. We do know that it was a bad enough situation, so much so, the LEO feared for his life.
Even His Arrogance’s stop, snort and flop?
...so much so that the LEO claimed her feared for his life.
The suspect went down after the first shot.
Yes, he was walking away, high on PCP and with a knife. Let’s say the cop doesn’t shoot him and he gets away and stabs a bystander to death. Cops would have been criticized.
On the flip side, the cop continued to pump bullets into him after he hit the deck. Bad career move.
The way it should have played out is, one of the cops should have used a taser on him, with the second cop ready to fire his gun in the event the taser didn’t do the job and the perp charged them.
If your name is Laquan, I suspect the odds that your life isn’t going to end well increase exponentially.
So thug breaks into cars, won’t stop for police and shows a knife instead. Gets killed.
Family gets $5 million.
Should raising a thug entitle a family to essentially a lottery win?
Crazy.
Taxpayers should be the ones rioting.
Now, as an excuse, there’ll be millions of more in property damage and police don’t dare do anything about it as they likely have stand down orders.
“The video does not support or condemn the 16 shots fired claim being made.”
I’d have to agree. It might be murder, but I’d think pretty hard to prove first degree.
Feared for his life while the guy was down on the ground for ten seconds? I sure hope you're being sarcastic here.
I am understanding that the dude was high on PCP. That’s a real dangerous situation.
That being said, I’m not exactly sure why they shit him at the time they shot him.
I cannot see that anyone’s life was in imminent danger, or that anyone was in danger of great bodily harm at the time of the shooting.
I also do not see the elements of 1st degree murder, but I am not sure exactly what Illinois law requires for that charge.
Anyway, I’m glad I’m not a cop, and I’m glad I don’t live in Chicago, and I don’t have any plans to use PCP and then play with knives in public.
“there is no unjustifiable number of rounds”
How many seconds does it take to fire 16 rounds?
I wonder if he is related to the 400 pound tight end at Baylor, another Laquan “M”.
It absolutely condemns more than 1 or 2 shots. Whether he was there for 20 secs or hours the suspect was down, no need to continue to shoot.
